Guest NYankees Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 http://apnews.excite.com/article/20060723/D8J1R93G0.html When was the last time a summer movie was on top for 3 weeks in a row?
bob_barron Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Pirates had the third biggest third weekend of all time
2GOLD Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Looks like Clerks II is going to struggle to get to the 33 million Kevin is so happy to get with each film.
bob_barron Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 He's never had a movie make more then 30 mil.
Hawk 34 Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Besides, DVD and Video has always been Smith's strong point. Not theatre release.
2GOLD Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 He's never had a movie make more then 30 mil. It's a thing with him involving gross and DVD sales total. As long as it makes 33 million total from combining both of them, he's never been disappointed. The lowered expectations of Kevin Smith.

MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Miami Vice will be #1 next weekend, whether it deserves to be or not
CBright7831 Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 I wish the theater closest to me was showing Clerks 2. Instead I'll have to drive to Tim-fucking-buktu to see the damn thing. That's alright, they're playing Little Man at the one near me.
Cherry Blossom Viscount Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Two members of the "Frat Pack" have bombed almost back to back. Is this the end?
ZGangsta Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 He's never had a movie make more then 30 mil. It's a thing with him involving gross and DVD sales total. When your movie makes back almost twice its budget in the opening weekend alone, I think you're doing alright.
Lord of The Curry Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Two members of the "Frat Pack" have bombed almost back to back. Is this the end? Are you referring to "The Break-Up" as the other bomb? I assume so. I think this means that at least one of them (most likely Owen) will need to take a drastically different role then what they normally do. "Owen Wilson as Owen Wilson" isn't going to fly much longer.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Little Man did more than Clerks II. My God, there is no justice in the world.
bob_barron Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Two members of the "Frat Pack" have bombed almost back to back. Is this the end? You Me and Dupree did not bomb.
KingPK Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Clerks II had the 4th highest per screen average this weekend while showing on about half the screens that Pirates did and about 400 less than Little Man, so that's pretty good in my book.
Guest Smues Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 I didn't fully realize until now just how many movies came out this weekend. Clerks 2, Lady in the Water, Monster house, My Super Ex-girlfriend. Damn.

I meant "You Me and Dupree." Maybe it didn't bomb as badly as I thought, but then you have to imagine what the Wilson Brothers are asking per movie now seeing as how the rest of the Frat Pack have been a role for a few years now, particularly Ferrel and Vaughn.

You, Me and Dupree was budgeted at 54 mil. It's going to easily turn a nice profit. The movie was pretty much sold on Owen Wilson's name, and I think the total gross will end up being pretty good.
Cherry Blossom Viscount Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 I guess you're right. I suppose I've come to expect alot from this particular group of actors.
Guest NYankees Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 I would love to find out when was the last time a summer movie was on top for 3 weeks in a row and not during the dog days of August like American Pie 2 which probaby had zero competition. I also wonder what the odds are if POTC can make it 4 weeks in a row. What was the last summer movie to be on top for 4 weeks in a row?
bob_barron Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 August counts as summer movie season I think. AP2 had competition from Rush Hour 2, The Others and Jay and Silent Bob. Sixth Sense was #1 for 5 weeks. August 6th-September 5th. I think Miami Vice or the Ant Bully will probably beat Pirates this week.
