Need some good classical music

Recommended Posts

I've been listening to the Chris Masters theme a lot lately. It makes for a pretty good driving song...lots of instruments, intensity, crescendo building.

But I think it goes without saying that there's better ones out there. Help me out, preferably using those guidelines?

Holst - Mars, the Bringer of War

Tchaikovsky - Marche Slave

Joseph Wilcox Jenkins - American Overture

Johan de Meij - Symphony No. 1: The Lord of the Rings (specifically "Gandalf")

I'll second the Holst recommendation - nearly every science fiction movie soundtrack has ripped off of "Mars", and for good reason.

I've always been partial to Bartok's "Miraculous Mandarin" as well.

Those first three are great choices, I'm not familiar with the LOTR one.

Wagner - "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral." I have a Phantom Regiment recording of it. I might put that up later, as well as their 2003 show which I enjoyed a lot.
