Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted August 2, 2006 If you're watching tennis in the next month, you will hear a lot about Andre Agassi retiring. I'm already tired of it. Let's hope for some tennis conversation in here.
Broward83 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 ...hopfully matches don't get interupted by CBS due to their length. I'm a lay Tennis fan (...it usually being on when I work on weekends and well, too few Americans to root for...) but I sat and watched all I could of the Blake/Agassi match. I think if more matches had that type of drama, it could catch on more with the casual fan. Sucks I don't live in Houston anymore.. going to the Houston Open was pretty badass
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Agassi gets all the coverage, Federer wins the tournament easily, show over.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 Is there pretty much a 100% chance that Federer and Agassi will be on opposite sides of the draw? I'm expecting Nadal to once again have another strong showing at this major. He's zoned in pretty well right now. But I do expect to see Federer win.

Federer will be the #1 seed. Agassi will probably be in the 25-32 range, unless he magically starts playing better in Toronto or Cincy. But, Andre has really, really struggled in his last matches. He'd be lucky to even make the 3rd round. Not to be mean, but I hope Andre just loses 1st round, so we can get on with the tournament.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 What can I say, I am a nostalgic lug at heart, I would love to see a late run by Agassi. I'm thinking about taking my girls to Mason to see him in person (but like you said, the way he's playing, we should get early session tickets.) I also want to see the Bryans make GS consecutive final #8. Leena how do you feel about the new Doubles rules? I hate it, I understand the concept to get bigger names to participate, but I think doubles matches can stand on their feet if given enough exposure and explanation of strategies. Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted August 24, 2006 Bump from death. Maybe someone else will post. As for doubles changes this year, I'm all for them. Whatever can make the sport more watchable and accomodating for the best players, they have to do it. When doubles did get their own chance at exposure, the Year-End Championship in Hartford a handful of years ago, NOBODY cared. The stands were as empty as could be, and ratings were dreadful. I'm as big a fan of doubles as anyone, it really is exciting to watch. And I understand the frustration from the top doubles teams, and serious doubles fans that hate that the super tiebreak makes many doubles matches more of a toss-up. But, realistically, doubles is very lucky to even remain a part of the ATP Tour. It will always take a backseat to singles, and will be treated as an exhibition by most players because of it. Agassi got a fairly good draw at the Open. Pavel in the 1st round, is very winnable. He's about the worst hardcourt player in the draw, since he only plays on clay now due to many injuries. Then, Andre gets squashed by Baghdatis.

naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2006 The thread is booming! 1 day until the fun ensues. Yay. With Venus out, as long as Serena or Sharapova doesn't win I'll be content. If I had my choice I'd like to see Justine or someone like Ivanovic win it for the ladies, and Federer to crush Roddick in the Men's Final.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted August 28, 2006 Justine is my favorite for the ladies', like always. It's perfectly set up for Maria, though... has a ridiculously easy draw up to the SF. No way Andy makes the final. Cincy was a complete fluke. I'm picking either Rafa or Gasquet for the rights to job to Roger.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2006 Justine just won the first women's match of the tourney. I hope she also wins the last one.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted August 28, 2006 Jill Craybas was the 1st to win, but who's keeping track. This is a boring 1st day of the Open. Not many good matches. Only interest is if Lindsay withdraws or retires.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2006 Jill Craybas was the 1st to win, but who's keeping track. This is a boring 1st day of the Open. Not many good matches. Only interest is if Lindsay withdraws or retires. Ahem, Justine just won the first featured women's match of the tourney. I hope she also wins the last one. Lindsay should be alright to beat this ham n' egger. I just don't see her making a run like she could have if she'd not gotten injured on Saturday.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted August 28, 2006 I have no faith in Lindsay. Since she's much like the Willies in her love and dedication for tennis. And has a war going on with the WTA. I just want to see Justine kick her ass yet again in the QF.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted August 28, 2006 Hey, somebody let me know when there's a rainout. No summer of mine is complete without Connors-Krickstein.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted August 28, 2006 Hehe... Looks like there's a good chance of it when CBS's coverage ensues this weekend, as Ernesto should be up there around that time. Although, maybe Agassi/Blake will replace it.

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 I'm enjoying this Agassi game...though its the only time Ive watched any tennis in some time (thus allowing me to miss all the hype), and flipped to it when the Green Bay's trouncing became too much to handle. CubbyBr 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Yeah this Agassi/Pavel match is neck and neck. They gotta do something bout the crowd noise..they're barely letting Pavel serve.

naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 There is no reason for Agassi to have won this match, and yet here he is up a set and a break at 2-0 in the 4th. Pavel's gonna hate himself when he watches this one back on tape.

naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Do tennis matches normally last this goddam long? This is not the norm at the US Open. The French however would consider this a tidy affair.

Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Some nice home cookin' for Andre with 2 of those calls (1 was blatant with Hawkeye at 3-4 GP). Congrats. You're getting whooped by Marcos now.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 The Agassi haters are in full force across the internet tonight. LOL. You'd think they'd rather see him get served up by Baghdatis than lose to a "no name", but I guess they wanted Andre to get the Roddick 2K5 treatment instead.
