EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2006 Yeah, Mathieson is definitely not a big league pitcher right now. Too bad the Phillies decided to give away Liddle. Lidle just isn't worth hanging onto. He's an average pitcher and was an impending free agent. I honestly feel that Scott Mathieson, Ryan Madson or Gavin Floyd is just as serviceable in the starter's role, long term.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2006 Who's next in line? No way they bring in Madson with Gordon on the shelf. Mazone? Germano? I can't see them trying to rush back up Floyd this season. Happ? His deception maybe buys a few decent starts through the end of the season before the league catches up. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2006 Nice play by Dellucci there. Thank god we got rid of our "Gold Glove" right fielder so we could improve the defense. Who's next in line? What is the official scorekeeper thinking calling that an RBI triple when it was more likely a single and a 2 base error, or at best a double and an error that allowed the run to score? I forget where I saw it but some sports site had the Phils going on this run primarily because they got rid of Abre-"who?".

I forget where I saw it but some sports site had the Phils going on this run primarily because they got rid of Abre-"who?". I just don't think a single player makes that much of a difference. The problem with the team was it's pitching, and Abreu's defense could not have been so bad as to drag that into the drecks. And for what it's worth, the Yankees are 10-6 since the trade. tominator89 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2006 I'm going to Cooperstown this week. Is this your first time? Cooperstown is truly a terrific place to visit. The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is outstanding. I'm going to the SWB/Syracuse games on Monday/Tuesday. Gustavo Chacin and Casey Janssen are scheduled to pitch for Syracuse. About the Hall: 1) What's the price of admission? 2) It is realistic to think that I could see everything in one day?

Guest StylesMark Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Well, the Yankees really fucked things up, blowing 2 in a row to the O's before this 5 game series. Now they go into Boston 1 1/2 games up. I'm liking the pitching match-ups in the next few days.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Tampa is probably wishing they'd stuck with Kazmir a little longer. He pitched a two-hit shutout through 5 innings and struck out ten Jays. The Devil Rays bullpen has given up six runs since then.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 I'm off suicide watch and back on the bandwagon, as the Astros beat the Brewers tonite 7-3. Jason Hirsh looked better this start than in his first start. He wasn't great, but good enough. Ben Sheets didn't look so great. I honestly can't remember any great games Ben Sheets has had against the Astros. Luke Scott continues to sizzle. He's hitting about .430, and it's starting to look like it's not a fluke nor just a streak. I doubt he'll be breaking Ted Williams record anytime in his career, but his bat has been a welcome addition. Roy Oswalt might not make his start on Saturday after getting hit by a Ronny Cedeno liner. If he doesn't, DAVE~! Borkowski's gonna get the start, which is fine by me. He's a strike-throwing machine. I think if Borkowski had been the fifth starter and Fernando Nieve the closer for the whole season, the Astros would be leading the WC. Seriously, Brad Lidge has blown 5 saves and lost at least 3 others, so if you take away those, the Astros are a few games over and in the WC/Division lead. Either way, today's win was good because the Astros gained a game on just about everyone ahead of them in the Wildcard race. Hope for an Astros' win tomorrow so I can do another Flowing Game Diatribe. ...God, I need some hobbies.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb...1&cset=true Holy shit, Bill Plaschke, are you f'n serious? You do realize that Ethier was arguably the best OF prospect in the entire A's system, right? In fact, a lot of people slammed that trade when it happened because the A's were giving up too much for Milton Bradley. I doubt you snuck him away in the night because some old balls scout thought he was good.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Heeeeeey...I heard that my good friend Preston Wilson signed a deal with the Cardinals, which either means that Jim Edmonds is hurt and they're probably not gonna pick up his option, or they aren't grounding into enough double plays and they need some help in that regard. I doubt you snuck him away in the night because some old balls scout thought he was good. The link needs a login to read it so I didn't bother but Javier Herrera was regarded as the A's top outfield prospect and the majority of people liked the deal from the A's perspective, including myself. No one thought Ethier would breakout as quickly as he did. Heeeeeey...I heard that my good friend Preston Wilson signed a deal with the Cardinals, which either means that Jim Edmonds is hurt and they're probably not gonna pick up his option, or they aren't grounding into enough double plays and they need some help in that regard. Edmonds season might be over as he has post concussion syndrome which has ended the seasons of Corey Koskie and Mike Matheny this year.

About the Hall: 1) What's the price of admission? 2) It is realistic to think that I could see everything in one day? 1. $14.95 per adult, according to the HOF website. Admission is free for active military and discounted for seniors and children under 12. 2. Yes. Arrive early, as you'll want to get a head start and parking can be a hassle midday. The town's small enough that you can park anywhere on the street and comfortably walk to the museum.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Surprised you need a log-in. It works for me. The article is basically 3 pages of scout ass-kissing. Not that I have anything against scouts, but Plaschke takes every chance he can get to rip the DePo era and tout the old school. They make Ethier sound like some low A-Ball nobody that some old scout discovered. He was hardly a can't miss ROTY, but he was the A's Minor League Player of the Year in 2005. Any person with a pulse on the minors probably knew his name.
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Well being it's Plaschke if there wasn't a log in I probably wouldn't have read it anyways. But ya that is the usual Plaschke bullshit to suggest Ethier was some how unknown but again it's still a surprise that he has played as well as he has so soon.
