Guest StylesMark Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Bases loaded, one out in the first. I'd imagine the managers will TRY and give the BP's a break today?
naiwf Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 The more things change, the more they stay the same. It'll be a moral victory if the Sawx "hold" the Yankees to 8 runs today. If the Yanks win this one, I'm predicting a 5 game sweep and a sea of tears in Boston as they'll be done for 2006.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 19, 2006 Author Report Posted August 19, 2006 A-Rod got overanxious and reached for a bad pitch. A 12 minute half-inning, good by their standards.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted August 19, 2006 Author Report Posted August 19, 2006 And I honestly think it'll end up 3-2 Yankees after the series. Remember that the five games in three days format forces both teams to use sub-optimal pitchers, so this isn't necessarily indicative of the season as a whole. If the Yankees win four of five though, I think they'll lock up the division.

If The Big Eunuch can eat up 7 innings, the Yankees bullpen won't be taxed today and they'll be fine during Mussina's start. The 'pen will be rested for Monday and they can finish Boston off in one fell swoop.
Guest StylesMark Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Randy shows the Sox how to minimize their pitching staff...for now.
Guest StylesMark Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Bern baby, Bern! Ponson was DFA.
Bruiser Chong Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 This is the Josh Beckett I enjoy seeing.
Guest StylesMark Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Manny ties it up. Unit may be in trouble.
Guest StylesMark Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Man, I thought Abreu nailed that one.
tominator89 Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 One of the announcers said Ponson was DFA. Did anyone else catch that?
Bruiser Chong Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 I'm not entirely sure why, but I am loving this.

Guest StylesMark Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Ponson was DFA. This is GREAT! edit: both Ponson, and the game.
strummer Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 When this series is over the media is going to go on and on about how the Yankees "stepped up" and "know how to win" when in fact the Red Sox have played like total shit.

It's kind of both. Yankee hitter patience + Red Sox pitchers' suck = bad times. I think we're gonna see some bench clearing goodness in game 4 tomorrow (or tonight, whatever)
Longdogger_Pete Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Jason Johnson and Rudy Seanez are both DFA. Thank God. Not that we can get anything better...

I think we're gonna see some bench clearing goodness in game 4 tomorrow (or tonight, whatever) I'd like to agree, but I was waiting for that in game 2 of the DH Friday night. Of course, they're in Boston...& if the Sox get murdered tonight, I can see it. Of course, Mussina is no Clemens...so a Yankee will have to get beaned.
Precious Roy Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 One thing I noticed, call me crazy, it looks like this Red Sox team doesn't particularly like each other. Mike Lowell looked disgusted just going around the horn after a play. Beckett looked like he wanted to murder Javy Lopez. In some of the dugout shots I saw the guys looked like they all hated each other. Maybe it was just the depressing losses, but I don't see a whole lot of that "Cowboy Up/Bunch of Idiots" camaraderie I'd love to see a fight but I just can't see it happening. This Red Sox bunch lacks passion. Unless Francona gives a Lombardi-esque pre-game speech and Schilling takes it upon himself to personally murder one Yankee. You can bet, if anybody needs to be beaned to set it off, that it's Damon. Or Cano.
mike546 Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Just got back from Boston, and I was there for games 1, 2 and 3. It was just an absolute slaughtering, and from sitting in the bleachers for all three games, Sox fans were just in like an awe of how bad the pitching was. Beckett got shit on ALOT by Sox fans, they were really pissed off at his performance. They all really shit on Crisp a lot, as they saw Damon go 9-18 in the series and just weren't happy at all. One thing I noticed is that Sox fans defintley aren't as rowdy as they used to be. I went to a game in April in 04 at Fenway and I just got screamed at a ton by Sox fans for beig a yankee fan. For the most part, Sox fans were really calm and just not angry, haha, this time around. I also haven't seen a Yankee team hit like this isn the 04 ALCS, so I'm expecting Ortiz walk offs tonight and tomorrow.
Guest StylesMark Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 I'll give up a sweep if I can swap it for a GOOD brawl tonight.

I think there's a two-fold reason for that 1) A ton of fairweather/bandwaggon fans since they won the world series. I know a lot of these people. They all "love" the Sox and "love" Big Papi, but they barely even like baseball, much less have any sort of devotion to their club. 2) Sox fans have a split personality now. Their identity has changed since finally winning a series, and a lot of fans find it hard to summon up the rage that they previously had
