Guest Hadley Report post Posted August 20, 2006 I was just watching the pillman/austin gun angle on youtube and it brought back memories of when i first saw it. It was probably the edgiest thing i had ever seen on a wrestling show to that point (i never saw ecw until 1999) and it definitely kept my interest, and this was when i was more interested in wcw, but i dont think i changed the channel at all during that ep. Your reaction at the time?
Guest DRH 502 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 I was the biggest Brian Pillman fan all the way up to his death. I really enjoyed the angle, but I haven't saw it since it originally aired probably and I would like to keep it that way. I have my memories and seeing it again might ruin some of them... Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 It was groundbreaking, that's for sure. It was a very strong angle for that time, and was well executed for the most part. I'm not sure it had any long term impact, though.
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2006 It was crazy. I also remember reading the recap of it on wrestlecrap. Never had an actual gun been portrayed on wrestling TV and the confrontations were crazy especially when Austin actually gets to the house. Could you post the link of the video? Special K 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 That's the only time the real 'serial killer' aspect of Stone Cold's character was displayed. Of course Steve studied serial killers to come up with the character. A couple years later, he was hitting Vince Mcmahon with bedpans.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2006 A fantastic angle but it didn't go anywhere. I'm guessing that was because the WWF got so much flack after it aired that they had to scrap whatever plans they had.
FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2006 Right. I remember everybody talking about that shit. Like not just at school, other people I knew, people's dads and shit too. That has to be in the top 3 angles ever done in the WWE. Everything was perfect about it. JN New's original post of it. The entire Austin/Pillman fued was great stuff. But the gun angle was some of the best tv I've ever seen. Everyone played thier roles so perfectly through the whole thing. Austin, Pillman, JR, Pillman's wife and friends, the fuckin' camera man. And the way it ended... Gotdamn, that was good tv.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2006 The angle definitely kept me glued to the tv for the whole hour. KK shreiking "CALL THE POLICE!!!" was gold.
FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2006 Yeah, like I said, everything was perfect. Austin was being stiff with those two dudes outside, he tried to drown the black dude(Stone KKKold!) and it looked convincing, even if it was a kiddy pool. Then he punches in the window, reaches in, opens the door and comes at Pillman. Pillman has one of the best deranged I'm'a shoot your ass looks on his face I've ever seen. He has the pistol pointed at Steve... Blackout We're back, and a bunch of big mofuckers rush Austin and Pillman to keep them from killing each other. This leads to one of the best "fight to get free from authority figures" in wrestling. Austin was so into his 'serial killer' role. He made you blieve that he didn't give a motherfuck if a loaded pistol was in his face by his ex-best friend who has gone psycho and gotten paranoid over Austin's repeated attempts to fuck his shit up. And Brian Pillman. Damn, dude was a fucking genious. He knew he had a certain ammount of time in this world from the time he was really young, with the throat cancer and all. And dude went out and achieved his dream, he was a pro wrestler, and a damn good one. Then when he couldn't wrestle anymore, he made tv magic like this Gun Angle. I would love to see a wrestling organisation owned and/or ran by Brian Pillman, Bret and Owen Hart, Dean Malenko, Steve Austin, Chris Benoit, Eddie Gurrero, Raven, Terry Funk, Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Paul Heyman, Tommy Dreamer, Sting, Trish Stratus, Al Snow, TaZZ, Joey Styles, Dave Meltzer, Jim Corrnette, Rey Mysterio, Sean Morley, William Regal, Psicosis (with mask), Dusty rhodes, Mike Tenay, Eric Bishoff, and maybe a few others. All of these guys would work together to make the best goddamn wrestling show we've seen in years. And most of thos eguys stay behind the scenes most of the time. They can come out for a match or fued every once in a while. The dudes listed that will be on the active roster aill be there with a bunch of new guys. Ken Doane, Lashley, damn near all of TNA's younger roster, Especially Styles, Abyss, Daniels, Christian Cage. Have a damn good cruiser division with Rey and Psychosis with Eddie looking over the shit. All the X-Division guys, Spanky and Kendrick, Noble, Kid Kash, tons of other young dudes that can be put over by older guys coming in to fued. The tag-Roster could be amazing. Have Arn manage a new breed of Horsemen, CW Anderson, claim a relation there. CM PUNK, he fills out the wild man role. Chris Cage from OVW. And for the hoss role, I dunno. A repackaged Kane. This line up would last 2 months tops anyways, it's Horsemen tradition. But none of that shit can happen, ever. But I think a promotion done like that, and executed the right way, it could be some good shit. Even without the guys who have passed that I had listed up there, something like this could be fucking awesome.
Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2006 The angle definitely kept me glued to the tv for the whole hour. KK shreiking "CALL THE POLICE!!!" was gold. Definitely echo this. As a young mark I was totally into this angle and the end was such an "oh shit" moment because of how well they built it through the entire show. Nowadays, though, we can't even dream of angles like this because the writers have no clue what they are doing.
FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2006 The last time they tried to tell a story throughout an entire Raw with a payoff was 'The Trial of Eric Bishoff'. So yeah, WWE sucks and shit.
