Copper Feel 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 That's not diverging from popular opinion, that's diverging from good taste. It is both, For Your Life really is the most insufferable track they ever recorded.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 That's not diverging from popular opinion, that's diverging from good taste. In the same thread where people are proclaiming ITTOD as good, and "Hot Dog" as a decent song. Right.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted September 1, 2006 And you're saying that of all their achievements, your favorite album is the one they phoned in? Come on. The ITTOD stuff is more like "hey, this shouldn't be shat on so much." Nobody's saying it's the band's best album for some stupid reason like "how weak they sounded." Yeah, they sound weak and it shows; 3/4 of the thing is just Zep-by-numbers crap. If you tack "Achilles Last Stand" on with Physical Graffiti, you can render Presence completely useless. It has one good song. That's it. Just one. Maybe even their best, but the rest of the album is as non-essential as they got.

Ringo Star begs to differ. And I was just stating a fact, not insinuating that it meant anything. And Jesus Fuck is the shift key REALLY that hard to press. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 "jesus fuck" as a Catholic, i resent your blasphamy. and really, throwing in ringo into a debate about irrelevent artists from great bands just furthers my point. and one of are desrving of the energy to press shift, unless its to profess my Catholic beliefs. ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 And I also think that you're forgetting the magnum opus known as Coverdale/Page. I mean after that project was unleashed people were all "Led Who?"
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Speaking of underrated Zeppelin, I think "The Rover" is their most underrated song, I mean that one has a killer riff and drums, and a real groovy solo too.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted September 2, 2006 I've always been a Rover fan. I can't remember the solo offhand, but I do love that riff, and yes, Bonzo is great on there.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 2, 2006 I like their debut the most by miles and miles. It completely rocks, with only one transitional song, placed in a transitional spot on the album. Everything else is a great riff that may or may not be legendary. The sound of the guitars make the most of the multiple layers that Page always did. It sounds like one big chunk, rather than a laminate. It's rhythm-section heavy, the keys drive the leads and provide atmosphere, which is what rock and roll keyboards do best. Bluesy lyrics about girls and being down. Awesome fucking record. I have no idea why more people don't adore it.

Best debut album ever.

"Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" is a personal favorite. Even "Black Mountain Side," ostensibly the transitional song you're talking about, is a cool little modal workout. In terms of the first four, it's the Brown Bomber that I never cared for. "Squeeze my lemon till the juice runs down my leg." Great. I never liked "Heartbreaker" or "Living Loving Maid" either. "Whole Lotta Love" just makes me think of kids from some 1970s small town in, oh let's go with downstate Illinois, driving around town on a Friday night because there's nothing else to do. "I'm gonna give you every inch of my love." Another groaner!
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 I cannot tolerate Plant's voice pre-'71; I've gone into why before, I think.
JangoFett4Hire 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Zeppelin 2 is easily their best album. No transitional pieces, no filler, just solid rock from Whole Lotta Love all the way thru Bring it on Home. Presence is a sub-par effort to say the least. The only tracks I really like on it are Achilles and Candy Store Rock. You can't count Coda as an actual Zeppelin release. Just the record company cashing in. I mean, there's only 8 tracks, and 2 of which appear on earlier albums I think, right? If they wanted to make it a worthwhile release, they should have included Travelling Riverside Blues onto it. How many people here know what I'm talkin about?
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 I still think Zeppelin III is their best album. Not as many balls out rockers that you would expect, but I think it's the album that helped them improve their sound. Also, it has their best songwriting. Guest Felonies! Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Oh Jango, II is not the best. Come on. The songwriting on III is vastly superior.

"I'm gonna give you every inch of my love." Another groaner! I totally agree about Zep 2. It's paint-by-numbers stuff with boring lyrics and unoriginal riffs. Most of it is good technically but there's very little originality and I rarely go out of my way to listen to any of the songs off of it. "Whole Lotta Love" might be the most overrated song of the entire Zeppelin catalogue.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I don't like "Whole Lotta Love," but I gotta give the overrated award to "Kashmir." For all the pomp and pageantry surrounding the riff, it's just that riff, and, frankly, I never really cared for that riff. It's not a bad song, no, but I find it to be a big so what.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I'm pretty indifferent to Kashmir. Rock and Roll is the one I hate. Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid annoy me as well.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I'm ready to despise any overplayed classic rock radio staple, but I can't get with you on hating "Rock and Roll." Good stuff. Zoso's my favorite LZ; it would've been Houses of the Holy had they took off "The Crunge" and put "Houses of the Holy" there, instead. But they didn't, so. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 3, 2006 That piano bugs me. Been a long loneleh loneleh loneleh time... I don't really care for Little Richard or any of the other early piano driven rocknrollers either, so it doesn't endear itself to me as an homage to that, or as an original piece of music. ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Zeppelin II is my favorite of their albums. Which is wierd because I think IV has the better collection of songs. I just think that when listening to them front to back, II comes across better. Everything flows together better.
