This Week in College Football 9/7 - 9/9

I'm pretty sure he was talking about if OU beat Texas because everyone knows the winner of that game will probably win the conference.

Too bad OU isn't as good as projected(who knows they might end up being) because then the RRS would be HUGE this year.

Boise State's big, gawky running back is both hilarious and awesome.

Helmandollar? He's really fun to use in NCAA 07. I should be watching this game.

I'm sure the RRS will actually be pretty competitive this year because, depending on what happens with UT/Ohio State, Texas might be trying to break in Jevan Snead and well, OU always picks up their play to face Texas... especially after last year's beatdown.

Also, sorry for like all the multiple posts... fucking dorm internet screwed shit up and when I refreshed to see if anything posted... I noticed all the posts. So yeah, my bad...

I don't get how Michigan and Georgia leapfrogged U of L in the polls. Was that epic win over Vandy REALLY that impressive for Michigan? Did squashing WKU do much for Georgia? I know Michael Bush got hurt and all, but they can't wait until U of L actually loses to move teams up?

Note: I'm not arguing Tennessee jumping over U of L, since at least they had a notable win over Cal.

I don't see how you'd expect Louisville not to drop when they lose one of the top 20 players in the country for the season. It's not like this is November or something where you're looking at a catalogue of accomplishments. The ratings are still completely fluid as voters are using the limited information they have to guess how good the teams are going to be.

I think the idea that Team X earned it's preseason rank, and shouldn't be dropped until it loses is one of the ideas that's more damaging to college football than almost any other.

ESPN is still on it's crusade to do away with the coaches poll.

You'd think the coaches poll was just the worst thing ever.

It all stems from the coaches voting Texas over Cal(which in the long run turned out to be the right thing to do). If ESPN had wanted Texas in that game and not Cal then they would still be supporting the poll.

The thing that's funny is that when the computers put OU in the title game in 2004 they screamed "oh the computer element is wrong! get rid of the computer element!" So they made the human element more important and because of that human element Texas was put in over Cal. Then it was "Oh well SOME of the humans are wrong!"

ESPN can't make up their damn minds.

If it was up to ESPN then the writers and only the writers would determine the national champion and we all know they have their own prejudices and biasness as evidenced by the heisman voting every year.

Is there any way to get a localized black hole in Austin...

I think OSU takes it, considering they had a Vince Young-led UT team on the ropes for most of the game last year.

I was picking Ohio State last week because of the experience at QB. After watching Colt McCoy play though......I'm still going with Ohio State.

I mean it was North Texas! Not like he had this tremendously awesome game against a big time school like oh say....Ohio State.

I guess we'll see but my official prediction is still Ohio State.

I picked Texas last year but figured Ohio State would probably win and I wasn't shocked when they lost but I thought they'd probably do it. This year I'm picking Ohio State, I'm figuring Ohio State will win, and I will be shocked if they don't.

I was in hell for a little while. I'm getting 4 games here: Wake/Duke, VT/UNC, Rutgers/Illinois, and Ole Miss/Mizzou. Nothing great, but one is clearly worse than all the rest...and I was only getting reception for Wake/Duke. You'll be happy to know that all the terrible Jefferson Pilot commentators are still doing just fine for Raycom/Lincoln Financial.

Cable, however, has been restored, and life is good again. Surprisingly, Duke is dominating Wake and should be up a lot more than 10-0. Now, please never think about either of these teams again.

Hey rare bonus coverage on ESPN2 as they abandon Rutgers fucking the corpse of the Illinois football program for Akron/N.C. State.

Incidentally, you guys might have to deal with some strange behavior and excessive commentary from me today. Now that I live in northern Virginia, I'm missing a UVA home game for the first time in 5 years. Even though it's just Wyoming, it's still a big gaping hole. I wasn't planning on going to any games until Maryland in October, but I may have to go down for Western Michigan next week, just to get my fix.

My g/f is a VT fan (if you might recall), so by proxy I am unsympathetic to your UVA plight.

...actually, I'm lying, since I don't care much about either school. It makes a nice excuse nonetheless

Charlie Weis is such a baller. I mean who else runs a draw on 4th and 3. It's like he just says to himself "I know this play is going to work and I'm going to run it, conventional wisdom be damned".

OU missing tackles? Getting beat deep? Throwing interceptions? Getting blown off the line both ways? These are the Sooners I've come to know and love since the lost to KSU.

They are in for a loooooooooooooong day in Autzen stadium next week. By long I mean it's going to take them a while to count up all the offensive yards Oregon is going to roll up.

Bob Stoops is looking for the magic? He's been looking for it for 3 years and he hasn't found it! They haven't been the same since the loss to KSU. All the mystique and aura of OU was gone. IT was Stoops' first blowout loss and it's been downhill since then.

The year they lost to USC they pretty much sleepwalked through the season and the only thing that got them there was the extreme experience and talent they had.

Oh well. Maybe they'll figure it out one of these days. But tied with f'n Washington at halftime? Embarassing. Plain and simple.
