Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 This is a tremendously significant weekend for not just Ring Of Honor but for NOAH as well. SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 If night two turns out as good as it looks on paper, it will surely be a must buy dvd. Also, Danielson's injury may hurt the quality of the title defense against KENTA, but it will up the drama, so it will even out.

Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 So, I wonder if Bruno Sammartino will do anything at the New York show. Shocking to see Bruno involved in ROH. He will be signing autographs, but the obvious route is a Bruno/Nana confrontation. It's in the shadows of MSG and Bruno still likes wrestling, just hates the business. Bruno and ROH, were in talks for awhile but wasn't until this show they pulled the trigger.
World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 I wonder what kind of reaction Morishima is going to get. He's not really one that a casual kind of puroresu follower is going to know much about. The guy's freakin awesome though and I look forward to him vs. Joe (which is one of the only 2 matches that makes any sense for him in ROH).
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 Gabe, went ahead and outright admited that he's trying to book Joe/Morishima.
Quasar 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 Am I the only one that sees some sort of a Bruno/Danielson respect type angle where Bruno heralds Danielson as a true champion or something? Either way, Bruno Sammartino in ROH would be Bruno's first wrestling related, non-nostalgia show appearance since 1987 right?
Guest BritishBruiser Report post Posted September 14, 2006 I know this is a little off topic, but I'd love to see Kamala beat Dragon for the ROH title. I always liked Kamala's wrestling in All Japan.

Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 GHC Heavyweight Title Match Naomichi Marufuji defends vs. Nigel McGuinness You need to go to http://noah.puroresufan.com/ and check out the reaction to the GHC Title match.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 Wait...they're bringing in guys from Japan to sign autographs?! Well, NOAH officials were already going to be in attendence anyways with KENTA and Marufuji working the show, especially with the GHC Heavyweight title defense. So bringing other NOAH talents makes sense. It would appear to be the obvious sell to those workers and perhaps we'll even see some sort of angle develop from it as they haven't been shy about their intent to book these guys. spman 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 I've got tickets for night one tomorrow, although it looks like the weakest card of the three. I've never been to an ROH show before, just WWE, is it really as great as I've read it is?
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2006 I've got tickets for night one tomorrow, although it looks like the weakest card of the three. I've never been to an ROH show before, just WWE, is it really as great as I've read it is? "Weak", compared with Night 2 I would make that argument but on it's own it's a great card with 4 legitimate main event quality matches. Expect a very vocal crowd. There will be morons out there just they are at every wrestling/sporting event but since the crowd is more compacted, they become more noticeable. The majority are just wrestling fans marking out and following the show. Chants will be started, especially "Dueling Chants" but you can't fight it. Pay attention to the matches because you'll be throughly entertained, especially by a card like this one. Make sure to get autographs from the NOAH guests, because it's not common for a trio of NOAH talents to be open for autographs.
Guest BritishBruiser Report post Posted September 15, 2006 I can't wait for everything to go down. How can anyone not get excited for KENTA vs Dragon? It'll be awesome to see this live in person. Unlike a lot of others, I don't mind the crowd at all.

If they're bringing these guys over, surely they'll be giving them matches of some sort, rather than just bringing them over to sign autographs (unless they're corner men). And if they are giving them matches, why aren't they announced from the get-go instead of 'some guys from Japan will sign some 8 by 10s if you gots the dough' and lo and behold, they get an last minute match? I'm not saying any of them well sell more tickets, because it's KENTA and Marafuji who are the intended draws. But still. Also, I've got my fingers crossed for Nigel to win the GHC Title, just to see some of the OTT Puro marks who are all uppity about the match heads explode with rage. And because Nigel is awesome. And British.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2006 Like I said, using them as cornermen or just there in attendence alone raises the value of the show. It also leads to the chance of them using the appearences to build to some sort of series involving those 3 talents down the line. It introduces them to the fanbase (via dvd) that don't know who they are and builds interest in them for the future. I'm still a strong believer that we're heading to a NOAH/ROH joint show or series show. Perhaps, for FB06 or even WM Weekend in Detroit.

It's actually a huge honor for them to have their picture in the japanese media with Bruno, that is a huge part of why they will be there. The signing autographs is kind of the trade off. Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 The event tonight will be held under a tent ala 5/22/04's Generation Next. a) Alex "Sugarfoot" Payne over Bobby Dempsey b) Derrick Dempsey over Mitch Franklin 1) The Ring Crew Express of Dunn & Marcos over Rhett Titus & Pelle Primeau...afterwards, The Kings of Wrestling hit the ring... 2) The Kings of Wrestling: Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli over The Ring Crew Express when Chris Hero pinned Marcos 3) Jack Evans over Jimmy Jacobs, Colt Cabana, & Ricky Reyes in a Four Corner Survival Match when Evans pinned Jacobs, who was KO'd by Cabana 4) Nigel McGuinness over Christopher Daniels It has been announced that ROH returns to East Windsor, CT on Friday, December 22, 2006. This will presumably be part one of a doubleshot for FINAL BATTLE 2006 weekend. 5) Austin Aries pinned Davey Richards after a second brainbuster. Aries hit a kick to the head and brainbuster, but Davey kicked out at 2 9/10ths. Aries hit the 2nd for the win. (I negelected to mention that it is POURING rain at the tent right now...causing certain parts to dip and bow based on the volume of rain weighing it down...This could be a potential issue/problem.) INTERMISSION 6) Delirious over Shane Hagadorn...Following the match, Delirious apparently gave the Top of the Class Trophy to a fan. I am not sure whether he won it, or just did it because he's good'ole crazy Delirious... 7) Samoa Joe over Roderick Strong after a top rope Death Valley Driver which crunched Strong's head/neck 8) KENTA & Naomichi Marufuji over Jay & Mark Briscoe when KENTA pinned Mark Briscoe following the GO TO SLEEP
spman 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 I just got back from this myself. Whoever wrote those results and said it was pouring wasn't lying, everone sitting around the perimeter of the tent ended up getting soaked. Really though, for a production that sees itself as legitimate as ROH does, some of the production here was really amateur. For one, they clearly oversold the show, and despite soem of the tickets having assigned seating, none of the seating was labled at all, so everyone just kind of sat wherever. It wasn't untill about the second match that security decided to start checking peoples tickets and doing some seating arrangement, which is something they should have done before the show even started. Secondly, who books an outside show anymore? Especially when the forecast has been rain all week. There was a big fucking indoor bubble soccer field at the facility that they could have used. The reason supposedly why they had to do this show outside was becasue they were expecting more people to attend then the fire marshal would allow in the building, but irregardless, that's just some really poor planning on their part. The show itself though was fantastic, and more then made up for the shitty planning and setup. I was particularly impressed with the Colt Cabana, and Samoa Joe matches, those guys are going to be millionaires someday when they sign with Vince McMahon. The crowd was good, but it seemed like more often then not they were more interested in entertaining themselves then being into the match. CT crowds tend to be a strange mix of marks that don't know anything, and semi-smarks who have been following it for years, and think that reading the copy and paste news sites on the internet automatically makes you knowledgeable. Not too many people familiar with anything beyond maybe 10 years worth of WWF history though. It was an entertaining crowd nonetheless. Finally, the gimmick tables were pretty outrageous. T-Shirts for 20 each, that's fine, I'll give you that, WWE wants 25 for theirs, so that's not too bad. Ring of Honor DVDs at 20 bucks a pop is a pretty big rip though, especially considering they were selling WWE DVDs right alongside of them for only 5 bucks more, which probably had much for content for your dollar. Even then, I've gone to shows where tape dealers have a huge variety of all kinds of shit and only want 5 dollars per disc, so 20 bucks for one 2.5 hour ROH show isn't going to cut it. Overall though this was a great experience, and I'm definitely going back in December when they come back here. I also ran into Joe when I was at the concession stand and got to shake his hand which was cool as well.

spman 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 I don't see what's so wrong with charging $20 for a 3 hour show As I said, maybe I've been spoiled by WWE DVDs, where you get a 2 hour documentary and 3+ hours of matches for 25 bucks or less, and tape dealers at Indy Shows that sell a 6 hour tape or DVD with footage for 5 to 10 bucks. When you consider that, 20 bucks for a 3 hour show seems like a bit much.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 You can't really fault ROH for having to set up a tent without much time to prepare. It wasn't the attendence that was an issue, the building was supported by an air bubble dome. Which means, with heavy rain it is against fire code regulations to hold that many people, especially when it's not built to hold that many people anyways. It becomes a hazard. That's why they moved it outside, they really had no other choice other then canceling the show outright. According to some reports, the inside of that building was flooding anyways. ROH's table is fair priced, considering the quality of the DVD's compared to all other independent promotions. Besides, there's usually a Buy 3 Get 1 Free sale. It sucks that you had to view the show in the rain but after attending many shows in what is known as "THE OVEN" in Dayton, sitting in the rain sounds lovely. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 They really should've looked into this, since sitting in the rain sounds awful. It would totally kill the show for me.
World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 $20 is generally what WWE sells their PPV DVDs for is it not? And suffice to say, almost any ROH show is probably quite a bit better than the typical WWE PPV. Of course, I also think $20 is too high in general. To me, even $15 would be a reasonable price for an original DVD copy of a 3 hour show. I'm just not keen on paying $20 for any 2-3 hour DVD.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 20 bucks is a perfectly acceptable price for the ROH dvds. Hell, WWE pay-per-views on DVD go for 20-25 bucks and don't have half the content that ROH shows do.
Guest Connzilla Report post Posted September 17, 2006 Credit: Credit: http://www.czwfans.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=16239 Credit: ROH Board 1) Davey Richards defeats Jack Evans...fun athletic opener. Mainly Jack on offense. Tons of bumps. Davey wins with the horselock. -Bruno is out now, much of the roster is outside the ring watching. Big pop for Bruno. He put over ROH. Annoyingly loud security walkie talkies are kind of a distraction, and disrespectful. -Samoa Joe and Morishima have a huge brawl setting up one of the biggest dream matches in ROH history. Joe and Morishima bumped into each leaving ringside after Bruno. All hell broke loose. 2) Adam Pearce defeats Delirious after a brass knux shot by Pearce's new "personal manservant" Shane Hagadorn. Another fun match, crowd is hot. - FB06 is on Dec. 23rd right here at the Manhattan Center. 3) Jimmy Jacobs defeated Colt Cabanna & Christopher Daniels...Daniels was a prop. Story was that Lacey forbid Jimmy from hitting Colt, building up to Jimmy lowblowing him during a Colt 45 attempt on Daniels. Lacey isn't happy he won. Bitch. - Cornette/Briscoes are in the ring....tag match should be on next. Building is packed on all sides. Cornette is ripping NYC. Homicide's title shot is at FB06....IF he wins tonight. Otherwise, his shot goes into 07. 4) Homicide & Samoa Joe defeated the Briscoe Brothers w/Jim Cornette after a Cop Killa 5) Kings of Wrestling defeat Aries & Strong and are the NEW ROH World Tag Team Champions 6) Naomichi Marafuji defeated Nigel McGuinness to retain the GHC Heavyweight Championship 7) Bryan Danielson defeated KENTA to retain the ROH World Championship after a Cattle Mutilation
