Mik 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 Well I finally got the hand of the Wii remote so I played Mario Galaxy a bit. I only got up to the Dino Piranha part about 45 minutes or an hour or so into the game but I have to say - this is the most fun I've had playing games in awhile. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 I wouldn't suggest Zelda or Metroid to someone who hasn't played games in years. Why? How many years are you talking about?
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 I got my Wii...The guy's shipping took FOREVER. On the flipside, the Wii was brand new...or at the very least, it appears to be. All I have is an extra wiimote, and SSBB aside from what comes with the Wii... So far, I've loved Wii Sports. I think my favorite right now is Boxing, which is odd, because I've heard people say it's the worst of the lot. I dunno if it's because I'm into combat sports, or because I read Hajime no Ippo, or what, but I enjoy the hell out of it. I even try to incorporate some kind of strategy, such as working the body, or mixing up the strikes. Fun as hell. Gold BAFFLED me, as no matter what I did I could not hit the golf ball. The rest of the games are fine...Tennis was fun, but I couldn't win at it. Don't have the LAN adapter I ordered yet. When I get that, maybe we'll see about playing online. If you're a Hajime no Ippo fan, you might be tempted to rent or even buy the Victorious Boxers game. Don't. You're only wasting your time. The story doesn't make sense if you never read the manga, and if you have, the story is a cocktease, the game forces 480i and 4:3, and the controls are just not quite there. Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 There are a couple of boxing games available now (not sure if the Don King game is out yet or not), is any one of them worth playing? I was really excited for a boxing game after playing Wii Sports.

I will admit that Victorious Boxers is somewhat fun, and is probably great two player, but if you're a fan of the manga series it's based off of, and you play story mode, you won't be happy
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2008 That's a shame...Ippo would lend itself well to a great boxing game on the Wii. If I have one complaint with the Boxing Wii Sports game, is the controls at times feel unresponsive. I think I've seen that said elsewhere...It's not BAD, but as long as you're not flinging around your arms wildly it seems to respond okay. Dodging out of the way from an opponent's attack only to land a 1-2-3 Jab-hook-uppercut combination NEVER gets old though. I think I've marked out more for the KO's in this game then I have for Fight Night...It's a weird feeling knowing that you, yourself, through your own motions just caused that fucking guy to fall face first on the mat after a barrage of jabs and Sapp-like hooks. I'm gonna have to look into the other "compilations" games for the Wii...I'm having a blast with Wii Sports, even if I can never hit the fucking ball in Golf for some reason. Ippo gets the controls fairly well... but I feel like the underlying game mechanics might as well be darts on a board. Hard to well why I get knocked down, for whatever reason. And again, the story upsets me greatly. I also just read your posts... you can throw hooks? I've tried, but I can only throw a body hook when I jerk my arm back at the elbow suddenly. Hook's are pretty easy. Just do a circle punching movement. Basically like you'd throw a hook. Since a jab is straight, the game picks up on it well. Hooking foos in the gut then nailing them in the face when they guard is awesome. The Best KO I've had in Wii Sports boxing was when I was getting my ass beat. Both me and the AI were really hurt, and at the last second before I went down I threw a desperation hook to the head while leaned back. Thing caught him in the side of the head and he did a flip bump for the KO. Uppercut's are a BITCH though. I can occasionally do them, but the movement is either imprecise, or hard to hit. When you do hit those, their head violently snaps back and does good damage. Feels like you accomplished something.
NYU 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 Guys, I don't care whether he calls it the W ! ! or the Nintendo or whatever, and neither should you. Drop it. And while I was working at Circuit City, I saw firsthand how many customers would buy the Wii without any games or any accessories. They would look at you with confusion when you asked them if they were purchasing any games and they'd go "Uh, it comes with a game." You'd explain it's essentially a sports demo disc and they'd say "No, that's all I will need for months." In hindsight, packaging that sports game with the console might have cost Nintendo a lot of money in sales because people really feel they do not need to buy any games to accompany it. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 I have to admit, in the two weeks since I've had the system, I've purchase 7 other games and I play Wii Bowling more than anything...fucking addictive game!
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 Wii Sport's is a fantastic package in game. Because none of the games are complex or demanding, but at the same time, you get five of them and their almost all FUN so you feel like you somehow cheated the system by getting the thing for free. The Wii gave me the "moment" I was looking for...When I get a system, If I get a moment that I won't forget from it, I consider it a successful purchase. I got my 8 year old little cousin to play it. She likes video games, but she's never liked playing them because she doesn't have the patience and games today are too complex...When she saw how the Wii worked, her face lit up, she had fun just POINTING at things, and when we tried baseball, so got so into it that it was comical. That's something I'll probably never forget. I couldn't even get the girl to play the first SMB very well, and here she is trying her damnedest to beat me at Wii Sports. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2008 That's one of the main reasons why I had been searching forever and then finally bought one when I found it. My wife and daughter NEVER play games, now they play the shit more than I do. It's what the Wii was designed for and it's 100% working in my household. They have their little party games to play, I have a few more adult games to play, I love the non-traditional control scheme (even though I'm still getting used to it), everyone wins. dubq 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2008 You're only saying that because you had some much trouble getting it networked.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2008 I had no problem getting it networked after I bought the right thing (Lan adapter instead of the usb thing). I still cant get Brawl to work online either but thats not of any fault on my end. The biggest killers of the console are 1) Lack of a hard drive, which has me skeptical on "Wiiware" since the games are looking good but theres no way in hell Im re-downloading them everytime I want to play them (can you store them on SD Cards, I have not heard?) Side note - one or two of you might remember the coronary I almost had back when the "X BUX" came out because of it having a hard drive and that it would ruin console gaming. That was however 7 years ago.. 2) Overpriced ported flash mini game bonanzas that are selling because people are idiots. The fact that Carnival Games has sold more than Metroid Prime 3..bleh 3) People who still go "OMG GRAFFIX!"
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2008 Marvin, those games are selling well because they take full advantage of what the Wii is capable of and are geared towards the kind of audience Nintendo wants. They want either a family-oriented type of player or a hardcore Nintendo fanboy/girl. Those two groups are who they are targeting. Not the hardcore gamers that Xbox 360 and PS3 gets. It amazes me how ignorant you are on SO MANY different things.
