Wow, Verlander only threw 20 pitches in that inning. The two walks and strikeouts made it seem like a lot more, but I guess when you factor in Jeter popping out on one pitch and Damon singling on the second pitch, it makes sense.

Yeah. What gets me is the shot of the twin lights from Ground Zero. Most commercials that breathlessly spout false patriotism are usually a lot more subtle than that.

I know this isn't a Tigers team that takes pitches or walks, but I didn't realize how terrible some of these OBP were. Monroe's almost in Neifi territory and Inge is only at .313.

Not as bad as those Budwieser radio commercials.

"This is Budwieser! This is Budwieser! This is Budwieser, this is beer!"

Yeah, if they don't get pitching, this team is toast. That's how they lost the division, because their pitching slumped in the last part of the season and they didn't have the bats to pick up the slack. Guillen and Ordonez are the only regulars above .340.

Someone forgot to feed the monkeys in the ESPN production truck again. The Tigers lost the 1987 ALCS to the Royals?

And then Morgan mixes up Sheffield and Jeter of all people. At least he didn't confuse "Jason" Verlander with Zumaya like Miller, I guess.

This is getting absurd. It's almost not funny anymore.

I'm sure Brett & Co. would be delighted that they're now being credited with a third World Series.

I think Name Lastname won the 1987 ALCS for the Royals.

If you have a hitter that actually knows how to bunt in that situation who'll drag it up the first base line, you probably give the Yankee Stadium crowd a collective heart attack.

Craig Monroe is not that hitter.

Well, with the additional footage showing how deep Alex Rodriguez was playing (and knowing that Sheffield has all of a dozen games at first), it's somewhat defensible, provided that you have a guy who can actually bunt. The problem is that Craig Monroe, the leading home run hitter on the team, is probably not the guy you want to tap for small ball in that situation.

I'd also agree with Morgan that the pitch was a terrible one to try on as well. He probably had a better shot at just taking it on the forearm and getting a free trip to first base, rather than putting forth an awkward "defensive" bunt.
