Guest Felonies! Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Anybody else just hate this Chevy commercial? THIS IS OUUUUURR COUNTRYYYYYYYY
CanadianChris Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 In all fairness, Verlander's a pretty good pitcher... Ah, screw fairness. A-Rod shouldn't be looking at anything remotely close to the strike zone.
Bruiser Chong Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Wow, Verlander only threw 20 pitches in that inning. The two walks and strikeouts made it seem like a lot more, but I guess when you factor in Jeter popping out on one pitch and Damon singling on the second pitch, it makes sense.
The Man in Blak Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 It was a mid-80's curve that started high and took an insane break into the middle of the plate. There was absolutely nothing he was going to do about that.
devo Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Anybody else just hate this Chevy commercial? THIS IS OUUUUURR COUNTRYYYYYYYY Yeah. What gets me is the shot of the twin lights from Ground Zero. Most commercials that breathlessly spout false patriotism are usually a lot more subtle than that.

Git-r-done!
Bruiser Chong Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I know this isn't a Tigers team that takes pitches or walks, but I didn't realize how terrible some of these OBP were. Monroe's almost in Neifi territory and Inge is only at .313.
The Man in Blak Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 How astute of them to bring up Kenny Lofton's overreaction during the 2002 NLCS. There's still time in the playoffs for somebody to take his head off with an errant fastball.

Git-r-done! Not as bad as those Budwieser radio commercials. "This is Budwieser! This is Budwieser! This is Budwieser, this is beer!"
Bruiser Chong Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Someone count how many times Joe and Jon use the word "clutch" this afternoon.
CanadianChris Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I know this isn't a Tigers team that takes pitches or walks, but I didn't realize how terrible some of these OBP were. Monroe's almost in Neifi territory and Inge is only at .313. Yeah, if they don't get pitching, this team is toast. That's how they lost the division, because their pitching slumped in the last part of the season and they didn't have the bats to pick up the slack. Guillen and Ordonez are the only regulars above .340.
CanadianChris Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 The Tigers only have 4 guys on the entire team with an OPS+ over 100. For a team that won 95 games, that's horrible.
The Man in Blak Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 More outside fastballs from Verlander.
naiwf Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Verlander's not going more than 5 innings today just like I figured.
Bruiser Chong Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 There's Mr. Clutch. Even though the Yanks haven't scored, they're still doing a great job of working Verlander over. He won't make it past five at this rate.
Bruiser Chong Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I had avoided actually seeing one of these Lasorda commercials until just now.
The Man in Blak Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Someone forgot to feed the monkeys in the ESPN production truck again. The Tigers lost the 1987 ALCS to the Royals? And then Morgan mixes up Sheffield and Jeter of all people. At least he didn't confuse "Jason" Verlander with Zumaya like Miller, I guess.
Guest Felonies! Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Someone forgot to feed the monkeys in the ESPN production truck again. The Tigers lost the 1987 ALCS to the Royals? This is getting absurd. It's almost not funny anymore.
CanadianChris Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I'm sure Brett & Co. would be delighted that they're now being credited with a third World Series.
Guest Felonies! Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 I'm sure Brett & Co. would be delighted that they're now being credited with a third World Series. I think Name Lastname won the 1987 ALCS for the Royals.
CanadianChris Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 The sad part is, it took me a minute to remember that the Twins won in '87. I can't even remember anyone on that team except for Puckett and Greg Gagne.
dh86 Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 why didnt the yankees just put giambi at 1st?
Bruiser Chong Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Craig Monroe's obviously been talking to Neifi.
The Man in Blak Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 If you have a hitter that actually knows how to bunt in that situation who'll drag it up the first base line, you probably give the Yankee Stadium crowd a collective heart attack. Craig Monroe is not that hitter.
Bruiser Chong Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 And naturally, Joe Morgan defends the bunt.
Bruiser Chong Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Is there any particular reason they play Salt 'n' Pepper's Push It when Matsui gets a hit?
The Man in Blak Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Well, with the additional footage showing how deep Alex Rodriguez was playing (and knowing that Sheffield has all of a dozen games at first), it's somewhat defensible, provided that you have a guy who can actually bunt. The problem is that Craig Monroe, the leading home run hitter on the team, is probably not the guy you want to tap for small ball in that situation. I'd also agree with Morgan that the pitch was a terrible one to try on as well. He probably had a better shot at just taking it on the forearm and getting a free trip to first base, rather than putting forth an awkward "defensive" bunt.
