Red Baron Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 So there's a big rumor that Google will buy You Tube for 1.6 Billion dollars http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...ol=969048863851
Guest Vitamin X Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Nooo I don't want to pay for content on youtube like I have to on google video. Fuck. It'll be more regulated too.
Fökai Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 I'd bet the house on more advertising before pay-for-content. And Google should realize that any regulations outside of minor tweaking would be a bad thing. They don't want to scare away the userbase that YouTube holds. I believe the official number was 34 million unique people that used YouTube in the month of August. That's scary.
Guest Vitamin X Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 Even scarier is that youtube hasn't even been around for a year yet.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 Youtube was losing lots of money. There is hardly any advertizing on that site.
Dobbs 3K Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 Yeah, that's one thing I've never understood. How does Youtube actually support itself? I never notice any ads or anything on it.
Lightning Flik Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I think Youtube was probably invented with the idea that some big company like Google would buy them out for millions. Or in this case, billions. Only reason why I could see them do this. ...how they managed to survive, is what I'm wondering.
Ginger Snaps Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 I'm convinced that Google will fuck this up somehow.
randomguy Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 YouTube lost money, they survived on venture capital. And yes, the business model was to get bought. Welcome to 1998 where "eyeballs" and "mindshare" are what matter most.
