Bored 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2006 Moving along, I'll use nogoodnick's picks for Oregon State this week. And if you're wondering since Oregon State would be on "probation" I won't rank them anymore although they would still be factored in the rankings. I'll use Loaded Glove's picks for Ohio State this week if Gert T doesn't show up.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2006 Hey Bored, you usually don't get this until the end of the season, but this is really great. iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 Nice to see something went right this week, (a pretty good win in the contest). I had far and away my worst weekend gambling this season the same week that Georgia Tech had a disgusting, devastating, disappointing loss to Clemson. Bored 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 Again as a reminder with what has happened this week teams that are on "probabtion" (Oregon State, Connecticut, Michigan, Maryland) will not be listed in the BCS rankings although they are factored in the rankings. Now partly because of what has happend it played havoc on the rankings this week and we have a couple of odd things going on. Currently there are five teams tied for 5th in correct picks and there are 14 teams at 4-4. These things have created plenty of CONTROVERSY~ for this week. As CanadianChris guessed correctly, Spiff's huge week has him on top correct picks and now on top of the overall rankings but by a very slim margin. nogoodnick's first loss of the year also happens where he picks poorly, in a week with several high scores, but he's still very close to the top spot. Edwin MacPhisto is the big winner this week with a huge jump into the Top 5. Will Scarlet's strong performance in a loss ends up helping him while Danville Wrestling's weak performance in a win hurts him. Oh and because of the drop outs this week...I'm ranked. OMG POSSIBLE COLLUSION??? The hard luck player of the contest right now is Ortonsault who has a five game losing streak despite being 4th in correct picks. Bored Championship Series Top 10 thru Week 8 1. Miami - Spaceman Spiff 5.6 2. Syracuse - CanadianChris 5.8 3. Virginia - Edwin MacPhisto 6.0 4. Oregon - nogoodnick 6.2 5. Hawaii - Will Scarlet 8.4 6. Auburn - Agent of Oblivion 8.7 7. South Carolina - Cuban Linx 8.8 8. Kentucky - Danville Wrestling 9.7 9. Georgia Tech - iggymcfly 11.05 10. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 Beating #1 Oregon State does nothing to help me in the rankings?
Bored 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 One more thing, going forward I'm leaning towards changing how I will assign replacements for the remainder of the season. See the problem with assigning a similar ranked player to Oregon State and Connecticut right now is that a Top 10 player would sort of be competing with themselves for their ranking. So what I'm considering doing is pre-assigning a replacement picker each week, instead of a permanent replacement, each week based on a certain ranking in correct picks (i.e. 16th for Oregon State, 22nd for UConn). This would also include Michigan and Maryland. If anyone has a major issue with this idea reply with in the next 18 hours or so before I post the Week 9 thread. Bored 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 Beating #1 Oregon State does nothing to help me in the rankings? Do you realllllly want to know where you are in correct picks right now? But hey you're in bowl contention.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 I'm not trying to be an ass here, but if you were to emulate a real BCS rankings, correct picks really wouldn't matter. There's a reason USC is ranked #2, despite not looking all that terrific. A win is a win, a loss is a loss. It's just weird to see a team like Temple, which has a worse overall record, make your consideration over a team like Notre Dame, or dare I say, San Diego State. But that's just me. I appreciate the work you do though.
Bored 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2006 Ya but if I didn't factor correct picks or the "strength of schedule" what would be the point of having rankings or a college football pick 'em contest? It's like should Boise State be ranked higher than Auburn or Texas because they have a better record? Should Tulsa be ranked higher than LSU? Really what it comes down to is I don't want to give $50 to someone who lucked into a good record. There is one thing I'm considering changing next year, if I do a contest for a 4th year which I'm leaning towards not doing one, is adding a penalty to a player's BCS ranking for each loss they get.
