Ordered mine through Gamestop (I'm a sucker for Collector's and Special Editions [Dear God I'm dreading holding myself back from ordering Halo 3's Legendary Collection]) but I got it normal shipping so it'll be a few days before I get to crack it open. Seen ads. Heard buzz. Describe it to me in 50 words or less. I'm thinking about getting a new gaming system and this and the upcoming Assassin's Creed game might push me towards Microsoft, since they seem, I dunno, cool.

It's being built up as the new major game in the industry, like Halo, MGS, GTA, etc.

Gears of War is a tactical third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games. Developed using the Unreal Engine 3 technology, it is set for Xbox 360 release on November 7, 2006 in the United States, and on November 17, 2006 in Europe outside of Germany, where the game was banned after being denied a rating. Gears of War centers around protagonist Marcus Fenix, and the conflict between the human inhabitants of planet Sera fighting a subterranean enemy known as the Locust Horde. The game will be available in both standard and limited editions.

 

Cliff Bleszinski cited Resident Evil 4's quick pacing and emphasis on "memorable moments" as a major influence on Gears of War in an interview with Game Informer, and promised the game would have set-pieces and a variety of enemies comparable to its inspiration. Additionally, the game bears a similar camera scheme, in which the player's viewpoint hovers over the protagonist's shoulder, and "Quick Time Events". When running in "no man's land," the camera will pull back as if the camera were being carried by a second person running behind Fenix, in an effect dubbed the "roadie run."

THE POWER OF XBOX 360!!! Bringing horrifically awful Rob Liefeld-ish character designs to digital life.

 

I like the bright blue glowing part of the armor. It seems perfect to let enemies get a bead in the main character's big fat head.

If I didn't know better I'd think that guy was like a parody or caricture of the space marine cliche. So bad.

 

I will get this....sometime. After FF XII whenever I get around to that. I am just annoyed how this game was chosen to be hyped. It was getting this buzz before anyone had even played it. I guess it turned out well but this is one of those games where there was never any question it would get good reviews.

Gears of War GameSpot Video Review!

 

There's no score given, but the reviewer doesn't say anything bad about the game at all really and ends up saying that if you like action games of any sort at all, then this is the game to own this holiday season.

 

The only two real "complaints" were:

 

-Your teammates aren't very helpful.

 

-The framerate doesn't hold up during cutscenes.

It looks like a rental too me. The online really doesn't impress me (because I prefer Capture the Flag over anything else, and they don't have it). Story looks good, but I gotta see if there is some good replay level after defeating the game.

Got it today, and its awesome. The low camera running is kinda tough and gets some getting used to. I haven't played it too much to see much else, but so far its awesome. Haven't played the multiplayer yet, but hope to later tonight. Anyone wanna join up, let me know.

Since you played it, let me ask you this. Is there a way to just jump over an object without having to cover behind it first? I noticed that the AI was doing this but whenever I just tried to jump over an object, I would have to cover behind it first.
