Nineteen strikeouts between them. I was sitting even with third base, about 5-6 rows back. The visitor's bullpen is right there, and I got to see Johnson warm up before the game. I had the day off, and was in my car listening to sports radio, when they mentioned that Gwynn would be going for his 3000th hit that night, and there were still tons of seats available, so I pulled the car onto the highway and drove to Montreal. Alomar, as much as I dislike him now, is part of one of the most memorable images of my life as he raises his arms along the first basepath after tying the game with a two run dinger off Dennis Eckersley. Games I've attended: California @ Seattle 08/14/1993 First game I ever went to, and it was 8 years before I got to go to another one. My family kinda of had a yearly tradition of driving to Seattle for a weekend and catching a Sonics game, so I whined into getting a trip over for baseball. All I really remember was that it was my sister's birthday, the Kingdome sucked, I was sad Ken Griffey was on the DL, and I liked that they had Beavis & Butthead headbanging on the screen after a homerun. Texas @ Seattle 10/4/2001 This game was originally scheduled for I think September 13th, but got moved because of 9/11. I had just moved into the dorms at UW and my dorm had like 50 tickets so I figured why not I hadn't seen a game in forever. I was incredibly impressed with Safeco Field even though the game itself was a blowout. A-rod hitting a homer for the only Rangers run of the game did NOT go over well with the crowd. Oakland @ Seattle 04/05/2002 The easiest day for me to go to ball games while at school was Friday, so I went to every Friday home game that spring. This game I had probably the best seats I ever got at Safeco. Damn Baldwin walks slow off the mound. Oh and seeing childhood hero David Justice was awesome. Texas @ Seattle 04/19/2002 Boring blowout, but Kenny Rogers threw a complete game shutout so that was cool. That, and the fake money people threw on the field everytime A-rod came up to bat. New York @ Seattle 04/26/2002 Only time I got to see Roger Clemens, so that was something. Yankees dominated the game. I did score a cool "Yankees Suck" shirt for just $10 though. Not as cool as the "Jesus Hates the Yankees" shirt I got for Christmas one year, but I still liked it. Boston @ Seattle 05/10/2002 I wanted to see Wakefield or Pedro or Lowe, instead I got Castillo, and only because he appealed his suspension. Baltimore @ Seattle 05/24/2002 Garcia was impressive. Chicago Cubs @ Seattle 06/07/2002 Both Sosa and McGriff homered. Just getting to see Fred McGriff was awesome for me. My seat sucked ass though. Very last row at the top of the stadium, right by the train tracks. St. Louis @ Seattle 06/12/2002 My parents were in town to move me back home for the summer, and father's day was that Sunday and my dad is from St. Louis so I took him (and mom) to the game as an early father's day gift. It was cool to see Pujols even though he didn't do anything. Joel Pineiro threw a great game. This was also Darryl Kile's 2nd to last start before he died. It was strange to see on the news that he had died so quickly after I had just seen him pitch. Philly @ Atlanta 09/19/2002 After years of visiting my grandma in North Augusta and having the Braves be on road trips every fucking time we finally scheduled a visit to coincide with the Braves. Turner Field is awesome, I really wish I had gotten to go to Fulton County Stadium. I don't remember who was originally scheduled to start this game, but it wasn't Glavine. I was incredibly excited when I got to the park and saw that Glavine was starting. After growing up and watching all the Braves games I could on TBS it was just an amazing feeling to finally see my team, and to get to see Tommy when I was pretty sure he wouldn't be with the team in 2003. Florida @ Atlanta 09/20/2002 Damian Moss got knocked around a bit although at the time I remember thinking he'd be pretty good in a few years. So much for that. Uneventful game really. I do remember routing for Derrek Lee because at the time my best friend's girlfriend was the cousin of Lee's wife. Odd connection there. Florida @ Atlanta 09/22/2006 Last home game of the season and a 'fan appreciation day'. Of all the prizes they had, we won the one I didn't give a shit about, a phone. Getting to see Maddux was awesome since, like Glavine, I didn't expect him to be on the 2003 squad. 4-1 going into the top of the 9th and holy shit did the place get loud when Smoltz' music hit. He came in and struck out 2 of his 3 batters for his 53rd and NL record breaking save. I didn't wanna leave the stadium when the game was over. I'll finish this when I get home tonight. I did work for a company called Baseball Info Solutions that paid me a nominal fee in return for sending in a computerized box score with hit locations. I've got two years worth of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre games on my desktop, about 60 or so. Posting them all would be tedious and generally uninteresting, however. The game was one of two pitched by Glass that season. Had the save rule existed at the time, Rube Walberg would have earned one. Joe Sewell's home run was his only home run of the season.
