Now, let's see if we can win a game against the Hawks this year.

If the Lakers get through this trip with only one or two losses, I'll be convinced that this team has a legitimate shot at the title.

This early in the season?? Maybe by the halfway point or the All-Star Break, but we're what, 24, 25 games in? A little more than a quarter of the way in?

(Comes back after looking at the standings)

16-7 is a good record, and as long as Kobe continues to play exactly the way he has, the have a shot in the playoffs. That being said, I think Phoenix is going to run them into the ground in said playoffs, especially if Amare stays healthy. But too many things can happen between now and April.

Orlando with a hell of a win last night after Cleveland got way out in front to start the game. What is going on with Cleveland, anyway? I expected them to step on Orlando's throat and finish them after starting out the way they did, but Orlando's bench got them right back in it.

Arenas scores 60 in the Wizards 147-141 OT win over the Lakers

To be completely honest, the Wizards and the Mavs are the only teams I hate seeing the Lakers play, because those are the only two that the Lakers don't have a hope in hell of stopping. Too many guys that can drive down the lane, and an unguardable star.

Hey, the Rockets beat a mediocre team without T-Mac today. This is an improvement from last year where they couldn't beat anyone without him. Hopefully his back stops spazzing out and we can get back to where we left off through Game 20. I honestly think with T-Mac healthy and Yao playing like he is, the Rockets can hang with everybody except the Suns who have everyone on the Rockets blown up by the 3rd quarter due to their running. I'm not saying they could definitely beat everyone in a 7-game playoff series, but I think they'd have a legit shot against all teams not from Arizona.

Bullshit. The Mavs? Didn't the Lakers have a winning record against the Mavs last year, when they weren't as good and new to the system? I'd be more afraid of the Suns.

Zach Randolph by the way is playing out of his mind, and it's helping the Blazers get closer to .500. Only player in the league to be averaging more than 25 points and 10 rebounds a game. That's crazy good and an injustice if he doesn't make the All-Star Team.

But the Lakers have shown that they can consistently beat the Suns. The Mavs still have a lot of weapons that the Lakers have a hard time stopping, and a problem with letting Josh Howard and Jason Terry get open all game long.

Already posted in last week's thread by CW, but we'll repost for this week.

Carmelo Anthony - 15 games

JR Smith/Nate Robinson - 10 games

Mardy Collins - 6 games

Jared Jeffries - 4 games

Jerome James/Nene - 1 game each for leaving the bench

Certainly doesn't help Melo's chances of making that first All-Star game. Then again, Jermaine O'Neal made it the year of the Palace brawl, so we'll see.

Randolph's problem will become the strong number of forwards in the Western Conference. Plus the fact that KG & Duncan will get the automatic starting spots.

Is T-Mac listed as a guard? If so will the Western starters be:

McGrady, Bryant, KG, Duncan & Yao. ?

Nash will be the starting point guard every year at the All Star Game until he retires to bad 'Melo got suspended he could of been a starter this year.

The first release of All-Star votes were released recently, for those who don't know, and the current starters are the five players Gert T listed. Nash is third among West guards, and KG, Duncan & Dirk are all separated by less than 100,000 votes.

Oh, and Chris Bosh has more votes than Jermaine O'Neal, because if you haven't heard, the '03 draft class is the GREATEST EVAR~!@ or something.

And...he was kinda outplaying him too.

Joe Johnson...if he does't make the all star game something is wrong.

O'Neal/Bosh

PPG: 18.5/20.5

RPG: 10.1/12.2

AST: 3.0/2.0

BLK: 3.0 (league leader)/1.0

FG%: .459/.460

EFF: 22.68/22.95

Not really a big difference. O'Neal also puts up his stats on arguably a top 5 team in the East at this point in the season, while the Raps are lottery bound.

The Knicks win a big game after blowing a lead in the 4th; Deron Williams hit a 3 and we go to OT. In OT the Knicks are up 1, and Deron Williams hit another jumper to put them up 1, with 3 seconds left. Lee heaves that shit to near halfcourt, Marbury gets the ball, drives to the paint, and lays it up at the buzzer for the win. Big win over the Jazz, in OT, with some good defensive effort. That shit was exciting.

I was hoping to catch the LAL/CHI game on WGN, but no luck. What exactly are the rules or whatever on this? I know games that are on ESPN or TNT aren't shown locally, is it the same for NBATV, as well?

Nash has 10 assist in the first quarter. I say go for Skile's record tonight.

edit: he is at 13 with 3 minutes to go in the first half.

Big game for Amare, 28 and 10. I'm really glad to see him starting to get his game back after all the near-disasters he's run into over the past year and a half.

Agreed. I knew he was okay when I saw a game I think was two weeks ago where he threw down a dunk that got me off the couch.... he's getting close to where he was before that horrible injury... all to the good, says I.

Alf, if you have the Superstation WGN, you don't get all the games that are on channel 9, which even then is just like 25% of the schedule. I don't know why Chicago sports coverage has to be such a clusterfuck. The Cubs should always be on channel 9, and the Bulls should always be on channel 9 unless it somehow conflicts with the Cubs. Hawks should be on there too for good measure, and stick the Sox over on 26, 32, or 50. I hate this garbage where everyone is split between WGN, WCIU, Fox, CSN, CSN+, CLTV, ESPN, and so on. Daily Cubs games were a cash cow for WGN and put them on the map as a national station. How is it more beneficial to pawn off half the schedule to a mickey-mouse cable station that a lot of people can't even get, which is mostly owned by Comcast/Wirtz/Reinsdorf? The Cubs and Bulls have wide fanbases beyond Chicago, and I don't think Comcast Sportsnet is even available on satellite carriers, which screws over a lot of fans. It's so ridiculous, but this probably should be spun off to a thread of its own.

Oh yeah... I keep forgetting that Chicago has a hockey team... which is strange, because I used to live in Zion...

Actually, it isn't all that strange; I tend to forget that sports other than basketball exist... in fact, that reminds me of a story from back when I first joined the Navy: I remember when I got to my A-school back in '95, I was playing pickup ball at the gym, and I was wearing a custom jersey with the number 88 on it. I remember somebody asked me if I was a Michael Irvin fan, and I swear to God, I looked at him like he had three heads and asked, "who?"

Yeah, you and like 7 million other people in the tri-state area. Wait, you're in Hampton Roads? Their AHL team is down there right now, but they're moving to Rockford soon. And an interesting thing about the "Wirtz won't show home games" thing: since Versus picked up a handful of Hawks games for national broadcast, but Comcast has a contract for 41 games, the Hawks have to televise like five or six home games now. Baby steps. Of course, it does me no good since I don't have Comcast, which is why I was so flustered a few posts up.
