2 Hours for Impact coming soon

Recommended Posts

Mike Johnson says TNA and Spike are close on a deal for a two hour show, which would include live specials. Here's what he posted:

For those of you who have asked about rumors of SpikeTV and TNA negotiating a longer timeslot for Impact, we've mentioned a number of times here on PWInsider.com that Spike has been planning to increase their coverage and synergy with TNA. It's been considered a foregone conclusion for some time that TNA would eventually get a two hour timeslot once all logistics and financial considerations are worked out. Those within TNA have been internally hoping for something to be signed and sealed after the first of the year. Spike is also interested in doing several live specials a year and in continuing the PPV preview shows.

Thoughts?

Once it gets announced it'll still take like 2 months to come to pass, so no sense speculating on speculation.

But two hours might, maybe, who knows...let them allow the X Division Comedy All-Stars to actually...WRESTLE A MATCH ONCE A MONTH.

When was the last time Alex Shelley won a match on Impact? Hopefully now some of the stories will make sense and the matches can last longer than 5 minutes! THIS IS AWESOME! THIS IS AWESOME! THIS IS AWESOME!

As long as it doesn't lead to Russo and Cornette trying to squeeze four hours of programming into a two hour slot then it should work out. But won't they have to do more tapings now? Cause I cannot see people sitting there for a six hour taping and not being burned out being belief.

If they are able to only write two hours of taping for the two hour taping then they could be in business. Cause the angles and some of the matches would really benefit from an additional hour. Hopefully this all works out for the best.

Jeez I can't fathom listening to Tenay and West for two hours...hopefully they switch up the announce team for the two hours.

They could do like Nitro used to, and have a different pair do each hour.

Cornette's input as far as creative goes is very minor. He has input into what happens in his segments, but apart from that his main role is to advise talent when it comes to interviews and other segments. Russo is still the main creative force, which is why Impact going to two hours will mean very little in regards to pacing things out. Russo has shown no willingness to stop cramming one-hour of Impact with too much material; he's been told repeatedly that he writes too much and it's a hassle having to edit it all to fit but he's refused to listen and keeps on overbooking. Russo has to either stop overbooking or someone has to step in and take the reigns from him. The former isn't going to happen, and the later isn't happening any time soon because of the idea they have to give Russo time. When TNA gets two-hours, the most likely outcome is Russo will still write too much and they'll still have to constantly edit things to fit.

Since Russo's writing 2 hour Impacts for a hour long show, wouldn't them expanding it to 2 hours help a bit? It's not like Russo's suddenly going to misunderstand it for a 4 hour long Impact.

Russo won't stop overbooking when he should and they're having to edit his stuff to fit. Going to two-hours will give him an excuse to write even more stuff because he thinks more time will mean having to try and fit even more stuff in. The one positive about going to two-hours is that it will hasten Russo burning himself out, at which point TNA might bring in someone who knows the value in not throwing out so many angles and once and in not burning through big money programs and matches.

So does that mean the return of the 20 minute GM interview at the beginning of Impact and Christy Hemme vs So Cal Val bikini pillow fights with Gail Kim playing the part of psycho Victoria. Or Eric Young treating the X Division championship like the WWF Hardcore title with the 24-7 rule hijinks like losing the title in a burger king bathroom?
