Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2007 http://www.sonymusic.com/clips/selection/f...1_full_smil.mov This band just gets worse. And Johnny Marr is a non-entity, which I said he would be back when the news of him joining MM broke. Dude hasn't been worth a shit since the 80s.

PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2007 I like threads where we point out that Johnny Marr is worthless. He seems keen to pursue such worthlessness himself, which is nice.
Special K 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2007 I saw Modest Mouse in concert about two years ago. (riding off Float on) It was awful. Like not just objectively bad, but they took about 7 minutes between songs. Not exaggerating. And it was the band, not the roadies. And the lead singer sounded completely bored, in essentially his home town? They suck, as far as I'm concerned. Oh, and apparently the lead singer's one of the most self-important pricks of all time. What a trifecta!
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2007 He's known to have bad shows after drinking. Doesn't hold the booze well. When the band is on they're great. I've seen them 5 times & the only one that wasn't too good was their Sasquatch set in '05 when Brock seemed bored. How someone could be bored playing the Gorge is beyond mey comprehension. Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 8, 2007 I like threads where we point out that Johnny Marr is worthless. That isn't true.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 It has been for a long time. He's shown that his own musicianship, while very good, can't carry original material without a very good singer/songwriter. At all. Ever.
Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 8, 2007 That may be partly true, but I don't think he's worthless. That's a strong slam on half of one of the Eighties' best songwriting duos. It's interesting, because as uncompelling as Johnny Marr may be when writing songs unassisted, imagine what a turtle on its back Morrissey would be.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 That's true about Moz; almost, if not all, of his solo songs are co-written, mostly with his guitarist, Alain Whyte. The reason we're picking on Marr is due to both his being unable to find a good songwriting partner, as well as flaming out whenever he tries to strike out on his own. Morrissey's solo work is spotty, yeah, but he's still had a better (in every sense of the word) career post-Smiths than Marr.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Johnny Marr should team up with Dave Gahan the next time either one of them is interested in doing a solo project, just to contain the disaster as best as possible. The MM song wasn't loading perfectly for me, but the clips I did get sounded like some of the zippier stuff on the last album, like "The View." The sunshine-and-pep thing throughout that album was fun, but doesn't really suit them as a long-term plan. And Isaac Brock keeps getting fatter and fatter. He already worked with Bernard Sumner in Electronic. Wasn't that enough for unexceptional side projects featuring the frontman from a famous synth band? Also, Isaac Brock makes enough money now. Why not hire a personal trainer?
Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 8, 2007 I just can't figure out why Johnny Marr hasn't done better for himself. He has a lot of talent, as evidenced by his extensive session work, and a broad musical vocabulary to work with, which you can see from the reggae, rockabilly, highlife, girl-group, musichall, blues, and pretty much anything else under the sun that found itself in Smiths music. Does he just suck at lyrics or something?
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 Czech, don't ever download . Or, do. I haven't heard it since it came out, but I recall the guy sounding absolutely lost on it, and lyrics weren't the only problem.

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 I hope that when they tour on the new record this year they dont play largely that material and forget about the 90s stuff. That was the biggest problem from the Good News tour, too much from that one cd, very little from previous efforts. Of course, when they finally did get around to playing 'Doin the Cockroach' or 'Breakthru' it made the relics seem even better.
