Excess Vitamin C just gets pissed out with no consequence, I think. Other vitamins, you can overdose on.

 

I have a piece of haddock sitting in my freezer, waiting for me to do something with it. I wonder if that lime vinaigrette dressing I like so much would somehow work with this.

A nice seasoned canola oil with garlic and dill can liven up the fish with diced red onions, diced tomatoes and capers to garnish. Sprinkle on with a bit of salt and lemon pepper and thats one nice fish.

Holy shit, 64oz of orange juice a day? Isn't all that Vitamin C actually BAD for ya?

 

Sounds like a fun little diet, though.

 

I hope not, when I'm at home I can go through a gallon of OJ in two days.

The recommended daily intake of Vitamin C per day is 60mg, which can be found in one 8oz glass of orange juice. There's also supposed (although I don't think outright proven) beliefs in the medical community that excess Vitamin C can cause kidney stones, and there are studies showing that some people may have some toxic side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, etc. when drinking too much of it, but apparently that doesn't happen at all with sick people.

 

But yeah, it has lower levels of toxicity than other vitamins do, so keep on drinking that shit away. I like to buy really good orange juice (NEVER from concentrate, and usually flash-pastuerized and with lots of pulp) or just juice fresh oranges myself, so I can't really afford buying that much OJ, although I know the effects are awesome. I'm into blueberry pomegranate juices these days, also, as well as guava (which is awesome for the digestive system and has a lot of energy, as well). I should get some more OJ today, though..

Vitamin C is water soluble. Even if you ingest too much, you'll just piss it out. (Czech is correct)

 

B-Vitamins; same deal.

 

Too much A can kill you, though.

I'd make myself a sandwich! Do the fish in a pan with a little olive oil, salt n pepper. Split a baguette and toast that bastard in the same pan, then throw on some cream cheese and spinach. Have any anchovy fillets? Chop those up and mix them into the cream cheese.

I had some of the shittiest Chinese food this afternoon. I'm not crazy about veggies when it comes to Chinese food, since they're drenched in a lot of crap, but I figured I'd work some vegetables into my meal, anyway. Mistake. The huge box hardly had any chicken in it and the vegetables were just too salty and saturated. All of this was counteracted by the most amazing egg roll I've ever had. So amazing, in fact, that I went back to the counter and ordered two more and threw that box of shit away.

My appetite didn't really hit me very hard until just a short while ago. I skipped breakfast and lunch today due to my lack of hunger, and have just eaten a couple of pieces of bread without filling. I should be eating a rather substantial tea though in the form of sausage casserole.

I have six freezer bags of bluegill fillets. I'll probably do a bunch of shit with them today. Curry a few and pan fry the rest with different spices.

Breakfast: Oatmeal with some brown sugar, fruit, water

 

Lunch: Chicken tenders, potato salad, actual salad, pink lemonade

 

Dinner: Penne pasta with red sauce, assorted vegetables, water

 

Dessert: Dish of butter pecan ice cream

Oh, the difference between my meals in Atlanta and Portland are insane.

 

Sunday:

Breakfast- Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, grits on the side. Fresh orange juice to drink.

Lunch- FUCKING CHICK-FIL-A. I don't think I'd ever give up chicken if this shit was around where I lived. I had the Deluxe Chicken Sandwich with "waffle-cut" fries and sweet tea.

Dinner- Southern Fried Chicken at Paschal's in the airport, with collard greens, black eyed peas, and coleslaw on the side. Sweet Tea to drink (I'll miss that a lot). Some peach cobbler for dessert and I was fuckin set. Some black chick took my order and had the biggest smile on her face when she walked away, probably thought it was funny some white kid was ordering all this soul food. And I asked for hot sauce too, go figure. Could barely walk when I was getting to my plane, I was so full.

 

Monday:

Breakfast- My homemade oatmeal which I make with nonfat milk, some apple butter, and cinnamon, and throw in some cranberries for good measure. Coffee to wake up.

Lunch- Indian food! I had this vegetarian lentil dish with basmati rice and dal on the side and naan, with some good old h20 to drink.

Dinner- Curried pan-friend tilapia with steamed kale (seasoned with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper) and chopped/peeled carrots which I flavored with some butter. Diet Shasta to drink!

 

And today:

B-None.

L-Tuna Sandwich (I make a pretty awesome one, I make my tuna with smart balance, salt, pepper, and a touch of olive oil and lemon juice, and I put that on very lightly toasted wheat bread with garlic aioli spread, shredded cabbage (lettuce works here as well), dijon mustard, homemade sliced dill pickles, and a slice of cheddar cheese. I drizzle a bit of olive oil and red wine vinegar on the cabbage too, before I slap the bread together. Diet Shasta to drink (I'm really trying to get rid of this stuff)

D- Kraft Mac and Cheese, my way. After doing the requisite cooking as directed, I put my own variation on it- I add some freshly shredded cheddar and parmesan cheese, curry powder, sweet thai basil, a dash of salt, and a bunch of Tapatio hot sauce. Oh, and I put some cut-up veggie dogs in there too, but I don't think it was really necessary, and I topped it off with a bit of black pepper. One more diet shasta to go after this one, too.

 

I'm like Gourmet Macguyver. Give me a disorganized cupboard and some ingredients, and I'll make something good out of it.

I've been on the Jesus diet since that post about the bluegill. I ended up frying them all, and ate them by tearing off chunks of a baguette and using the bits as a handle. Fishes and loaves, bitches.

Hmm, that sounds damn good. I'm making my own little sourdough starter at home right now, which I plan on using for breads, pizzas, and apparently pancakes as well, though mostly for the other two things. What did you fry the bluegills in? Were they breaded?

I went to the store and bought steak. So I'm having that. Lots of butter.

 

Also, I can't buy bacon. I love bacon so fucking much, that I cook EVERYTHING with it. I'll cook bacon for breakfast, then cook my eggs in the bacon grease. Or I'll have it on a sandwich for lunch. Or I'll make a bacon wrapped steak.

 

It's a slippery slope, me and bacon.

Bacon's pretty amazing. We have a place here that I mentioned in the doughnut thread that has bacon maple bars. Best fucking thing ever. I think Maz had it in his avatar for a while as Chaos World Destroyer or some shit like that.

 

Steak is a pretty good choice. My suggestion would be to make a rub for it with minced garlic (or garlic powder if you have it), salt, black pepper, and some onion. Cook all that, but rub the salt (kosher or sea preferably) and black pepper, and the garlic powder if you have it, on the steak before pan frying it for 5-8 minutes over medium-high. If you had charcoal, I'd light the coals and cook the steak right on the coals (that sears them pretty nicely). Cut up some vegetables, steam them for a bit and then serve with a piece of melted butter on top. The steak you can finish off with butter, but at the last minute or so of cooking it, not throughout the whole process. I think that's called monter au beurre- which could also be used for making a pretty nice steak sauce. If you like teriyaki, that's an easy sauce to make- take a cup or so of soy sauce, 2 teaspoons of sugar, chopped garlic, and a bit of chopped shallot, reduce in a saucepan for about 10-15 minutes until it can coat a spoon, and boom. Serve that over some salted steamed rice and that's a good dinner right there.

So the butcher gave me the thickest cut that I've ever seen. At least 2 inches. I botched it from the beginning by adding butter now instead of at the end, which resulted in quite a bit of browning. It was a little crusty, but nothing too ridiculous. Anyways, the butter was a nice addition to it. Turned out pretty well despite me having to cook it 3 times. It was seriously fucking huge. I had it dry; didn't have the necessary ingredients to make a sauce. But thanks for the tips, Leo, they all sound great. I'll definitely make one next time I get a cut.
