Mik Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Well, after the first two songs I was wondering just badly this CD was going to disappoint me, but luckily it turned things around after that. Waiting for 7.18 was a decent track and everything after The Prayer is pretty damn good. It's still not Silent Alarm but I think it's still a pretty decent album. The Prayer is a terrible single though.
Annabelle Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 mik quit making these threads no one will respond to. plus them in the comments that don't warrant a thread. if everyone made a new thread for useless new albums this folder would be clogged. that said, i like bloc party.
Red Baron Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Does anyone wonder why this band gets so much hype? All I heard was this bland band called music.
dubq Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Silent Alarm is/was a great CD. They're a great studio band, IMO - but live, not so much. I'd gone to see them at the Docks (worst venue ever) a year or so ago and they were just off the ball all night. I don't know if it was a one time thing, or what, but the show was just horrible. Almost as bad as the Bravery.
Murmuring Beast Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 I hate them greatly but as a friend is a big fan (majorly obsessive), I silence myself.

Almost as bad as the Bravery. Should've came to the Olympic Island show in the summer when they played with Broken Social and Feist, they fucking slayed that crowd. And yes, The Docks is one of the worst possibly places to see a concert which sucks because some of my favourite bands (Stars, Interpol) have played there.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Silent Alarm is seriously one of the most boring CDs I've ever heard.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 I haven't heard Silent Alarm since before it came out, but I remember it being a yawner. One of the songs—"Plans," I think—sounded like Interpol if Paul Banks had genuine Brit accent.
cbacon Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 This new album is pretty disappointing.
Annabelle Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 i think bloc party is the only modern uk rock group i like. i stopped listening to them for almost 2 years. or year & a half or whatever, but in the past month have been listening to more. same with death from above 1979. i used to really love them. then not. then kinda like them. quite the cycle it is.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 This time next week, you'll be blasting 40oz. to Freedom everywhere you go.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 I like Silent Alarm a lot. It's tough to get through in one listen because it really bludgeons you flatly at points, but like Banky I've really gotten back into it in the last month or so. I manage to sneak "Little Thoughts" onto a lot of mix discs. I'm looking forward to hearing the new one after reading a particularly good interview with the lead singer in The Guardian.
Annabelle Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 This time next week, you'll be blasting 40oz. to Freedom everywhere you go. huzzah! i did go through a sublime phase a few months back. that was funny. not much has held up as i pretty much murdered any redeemable qualities they have in high school. there's several groups like that. beastie boys is one. they aren't bad i just can't stand them anymore. everything in moderation. sublime's cover of hope is still pretty fantastic. some of their dub stuff is tolerable. i didn't listen to that in high school. just date rape.

What are your thoughts on "This Modern Love"? That's one of my favorite under-rated songs from Silent Alarm.

Yes, I was out of town when that happened unfortunately. 10 points for the Interpol mention!
Red Baron Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Speaking of Interpol, any word of a new album in 07?

What are your thoughts on "This Modern Love"? That's one of my favorite under-rated songs from Silent Alarm. I like it, though the vocals hopping from left channel to right channel and back at the beginning is more gimmicky than anything else. It's definitely a reprieve from a lot of the album's sturm und drang, still upbeat but not as clobberin' as some of the tracks. Not sure it qualifies as underrated, though; Allmusic marks it as one of their notable tracks and I seem to remember all the usual suspects (Pitchfork, Stylus, etc.) going ape over it when the album came out. Also, whenever it starts, I always think it's Interpol's "Roland," because the intros are about a half-note away from being identical.
cbacon Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Final Fantasy does a pretty awesome cover of This Modern Love
Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 There are probably like ten to twelve Interpol songs that are a note or two away from being identical. That's not a mean-spirited jab.
