NCAA Basketball Tournament 1st/2nd Round Thread

Recommended Posts

Texas is only 24-9 though, pretty much the same record as U of L (23-9) and with a worse SOS. Thing is, about half of those losses have been mindblowingly good games, so I have no doubt they can play. One thing I don't get about the RPI is this: How can a team be higher in the RPI with the same number of losses and notably worse SOS?

The RPI is a very flawed formula.

Watch the Colton Index video iggy posted a while ago for painstakingly detailed analysis why this is.

The music loop going in the back of those videos was so apocalyptic and troublesome.

And VT has to be the favorite. Illinois is really bad this year. Ergo, I'll be thrilled if they do manage to beat the Hokies.

The RPI is a shitty formula when it comes to ranking teams. I use it as a ballpark indicator, nothing more.

If you want my biased predictions and retarded analysis, read my blog. I'm better than Joe Lunardi.

Primary games I have today:

Stanford/Louisville

Oral Roberts/Washington State

Weber State/UCLA

Gonzaga/Indiana

One thing I hate is CBS treats the entire state of California like everyone is local so no matter how out of hand the UCLA game gets they'll keep us there. Thank god for MMOD.

Davidson is a 3-point contest team. Boo.

Maryland sleeping thus far, though... could have the upset if this keeps up.

Before the game CBS showed the bracket for the East Region with the cities SACAMENTO and Winstin-Salem anybody want to tell me why the capital of California is in the EAST region?

The first and second round venues have games from multiple regions.

I can't watch any games on MMOD right now. Damned blackout.

It's because of the pod system they've been using for a few years now. First and second round games can be played at any of the sites, regardless of region.

Any small hope that Kentucky fans would show up to boo Pitino is gone. It sounds like it's 95% Louisville fans in the arena right now. Robin Lopez already in foul trouble which is pretty much every game for him.

Louisville looks like a team that only had to travel 45 minutes for their game and Stanford looks like a team that is having to play before 10:00 AM.

Louisville's just rocking Stanford thus far. Despite my denigrating of UL in the college basketball threads all year, I'm very happy to see it as I have them in my Elite 8, and also made a decent-sized wager on them this morning.

I like last years system where they called the region after the Final Four cities.

Ugh. I'm glad they finally switched back.

Yay both Lopez twins with two fouls already. Stanford has zero ball handlers on their team, or at least no good ones, and Louisville is completely exploiting it. What has just been disgusting is the complete lack of effort on defense. I was hoping Stanford would play with a nothing to lose attitude since they weren't even sure they'd be here, and it since it is essentially a road game, but they are playing like a team that knows they don't belong.

The system is confusing where you can get weird things like UCLA representing the East vs UT representing the South....it just doesn't make sense.

Christ it is 41-13. I knew there was a chance Stanford could get hammered but I could never imagine it'd be this bad, this quick.

LOL... Stanford down 28. Embarassing. Good decision to leave Drexel out for teams like this.

Did Stanford think they were a 16 seed or something here?

Davidson's thrown up 19 threes in the first half.

Davidson is ridiculous. Their offense is either a guard getting a lucky drive or ANYONE shooting a 3 with any type of look.

Maryland sucks, though. They should be dominating the glass, and are losing almost every hustle play.

Anyone else noticing a really strict interpretation of traveling during the tournament? At first I thought it was just the refs in the Lou/Stan game, but they're doing the same thing for Davidson/Maryland. I'm thinking it must be a point of emphasis during the NCAAs or something.

I picked Davidson for the upset and they're doing well so far. I've loving this Curry guy they have.

Since Drexel did so well in the NIT. Lost to the #10 team out of the ACC the first night.

If anything, Clemson or Florida State should have gotten one of the last spots.

The NIT is a poor comparison. What bubble team ever does well there?
