Guest Report post Posted April 4, 2007 Since I see a post about this in almost every thread, why don't we post it in here. In doing so, it doesn't take away from the actual discussion of the games that people want to read and contribute to. This is for all sports, in game commentary and in-studio bullshit. I'm watching the Dodger game and Vin Scully's got the mic, so I haven't heard anything stupid yet. Or we can forget that I made this thread in the first place. Begin. The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 "Jose Reyes is the most exciting player in baseball because everything he does is exciting." - Joe Morgan, ESPN (Opening Night)
Guest Report post Posted April 4, 2007 "The D-Rays are young, so they have to manufacture runs." -John Kruk, yesterday. Because one has to do with the other, see. He didn't even mention power.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 The classic example would be whenever John Madden opens his mouth he would start out talking about defense then somehow segway into unintentional subliminal advertisement for Double Bubble chewing gum.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 I wouldn't have known about it if not for FJM, but John Kruk disagreeing with Ozzie pulling Jose Contreras after giving up seven runs on eight hits in one plus innings because "it's early and he needs to get his work in" was pretty ridiculous. razazteca 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 I feel like complaining about FSN Houston's coverage of the Astros/Pirates game its kind of hard to hear the commentary when I can hear the white noise from the audience the whole damn telecast sounds like 20,000 people whistling or buying concessions. strummer 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 John Sterling during Saturday's Spring Traning game between the Yankees and Tigers: (After Robinson Cano is thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double) "If you think about it that's not really a bad play" Of course the thought behind it was that Cano was being "aggressive" so it somehow makes up for making an out on the basepaths. Guest Report post Posted April 4, 2007 Depends on which game he's calling. I've got one from Jim Fox, Kings color guy. "Jaroslav Modry played well." He says this after every game, when it is clearly not and has never been the case. I'll have some better stuff tomorrow when I read Plaschke's column, if he writes one. BruiserKC 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 These days, almost anytime Mike Shannon (radio color man for the Cardinals) is behind the mic. He'll bust out laughing at the most inopportune times...like if John Rooney is calling a Pujols home-run Shannon will chuckle as the ball leaves the yard. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 I love Milo Hamilton (radio guy for the Astros for the last 27 years), but I swear to God, he's going senile in his old age. There was a game against the Mets season before last that I was listening to and Mike Piazza came up to bat, and when he came up, Milo said "And here's Pizza...Mike Pizza." I tought he was joking, but he seriously called him 'Mike Pizza' for the rest of the game and all of last season. Also, in Spring Training, one of the Astros' pitching prospects named Chad Reinke got into a game, and Milo referred to him alternately as 'Chad Heineken', 'Chad Wrinkle', and 'Chad Winkler'. He also frequently calls the new radio guys, Dave Raymond and Brett Dolan, by the wrong name. At the end of a game last season, he was signing off and said, "For all of us here in Houston, this has been Milo Hamilton along with Brett Dolan. Goodnite everyone!" The only problem was that it was Dave in the both. As they were going off-air, Dave said, "I'm not Brett! I'm Dave!" to which Milo responded, "I don't care who you are!" He's a good commentator, though. At least his senility is highly amusing.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 What do you know, Steve Phillips thinks it's a good idea for the Twins to go with Ponson and Ortiz in the rotation instead of the better, younger pitchers because of their veteran experience. How did this man every fail at being a GM?

World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 ^ Those White Sox announcers are pretty much the worst announcers in the history of the universe. Not only do they not say anything intelligent, but they're total homers. It's embarrassing to hear them call the play when the opposing team is doing something positive. They couldn't be more disinterested or disdainful.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 Agreed...I had to turn off the Indians/Sox game this afternoon because I couldn't stand listening to them. EDIT: Final play of the game, the Indians LF made a spectacular catch at the wall to win the game, and Hawk's reaction was thus: "Caught...by Jason Michaels." How did this man every fail at being a GM? I thought that was more Phillips explaining the Twins reasoning (money) for why they start with the veterans. devo 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Steve Phillips just a told a charming, rambling anecdote about how Moises Alou had family members murdered in Brooklyn. Not stupid, perhaps, but certainly ill-advised and depressing.

Last year against the Twins, one of the umps made a bad call and Hawk bitched about it the rest of the game.
Just John 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Living in central Missouri, I get all the Cardinals games. This year they got Joe Buck as their PBP man... I was hoping at least he'd be off the Fox mainstream telecasts, but tonight he said he'd be at the Braves/Mets game Sunday. Just what I need... An entire baseball season of Joe Buck. An entire baseball season of Joe Buck. my condolences. though on Yes we have to deal with Kay (though he can make a dramatic call, he gets on my nerves often) and now Joe Girardi (though he knows baseball he is very boring, even more so than Al Leiter, who at least sounds a little excited on the air)
