Man, I don't know, you guys. I mean, yeah, I like dick jokes a lot, and I like Michael Cera, but the fawning in this thread is unreal. It wasn't that funny. Also, is this supposed to be a completely absurdist leap of faith, with a fat ugly jackass not being a total pariah, and Keystone Kops dragging some Science Olympics geek around as they get drunk and shoot burning squad cars, or is this a touching and heartwarming story that we can relate to? People tell me it's both. Which is it?

And Walk Hard does nothing for me.

Though I might see it since Jenna is in it.

glad ur on a first name basis w/her!

EDIT: Of course Airplane! is the best ZAZ film, you guys. Robert Stack walking through a mirror.

How and when did you know? Please don't turn this thread into "Czech hates anything that other people like," because I can't deal.

The minute I saw you posted in the thread, I just knew you didn't like it.

To me, it's just a hilarious comedy, though I don't think it was as good as Knocked Up. I thought them squabbling about Evan living with Fogel was tacked on

Well, I guess I have to give you credit for calling it.

Michael Cera is the funniest part of this movie, as I said, but Jonah Hill's character is just too unlikable. Why didn't American Pie get the same critical acclaim? They're hardly all that removed from one another. Everyone keeps saying that Seth is such a "realistic portrayal of a teenager." Really?

I'm sure they succeeded at getting "McLovin" and "blow J" over as catch phrases, though.

I liked it, but it's not as great as people say and it doesn't hold up well after multiple viewings. When I saw it opening night, everyone in the theater liked it, but there weren't a lot of laughs. Maybe it was because I was in a bad mood going into it or the fact that I was in Virgina at the time.

Someone recently told me that it was the "Ferris Bueller of our generation." I haven't spoken to that person since. I just can't take them seriously.

Annoying pudgy guys that get laid*? There were a surprising amount of them back in my high school. Sadly, I was an annoying pudgy guy who didn't get laid...

*I say that referrring to what I imagine 18 year old Milky is like, not current Milky who is neither pudgy or annoying.

I always thought American Pie was much more draggy. The whole Mena Suvari-Chris Klein subplot was horrible.

That's because Mena Suvari and Chris Klein are horrible.

Superbad is actually quite a bit better than Ferris. Personally I always thought Ferris suffered from the usual John Hughes "hilarious one minute, serious and whiny the next" syndrome. That and there's no way they could do all that stuff in Chicago in such a short amount of time. To be honest, Knocked Up suffers from this same problem (hilarious/serious) but at least there I can sorta see it.

Something in Superbad just clicked for me, maybe it reminded me the most of certain aspects of HS. Like the feelings of "I gotta nail this chick now before we graduate" or making grandiose (yet vague) plans that never quite work out the way it was intended.

See the point of American Pie is that by the end they have to get laid. But in Superbad they really don't make such an elaborate plan, it's just some vague notion of getting drunk and getting laid.

Superbad is what happens when you get really smart people together, and have them make a movie that has more or less no plot whatsoever. This is not a "good movie" by any stretch of the imagination. However, it is absolutely hilarious, and it does absolutely everything that it promises it'll do.

Michael Cera is the funniest part of this movie, as I said

That's odd, I easily found him to be the least funny character in the movie. I suppose it just depends upon whom you can relate to.

Oh, totally, he only has one character, but it's a funny character.
