Yeah, the chick who does Wilf's tattoos is a really good artist. She didn't do mine or Leigh's, the guy who did mine no longer does them as his hands are all fucked up from doing tattoos for years.

 

Although the guy who does Leigh's is supposed to be very good.

 

TBH, it might just be my camera that makes them look that way, because they don't look amturish in reality.

Old-school tattoos are cool and all, but I am of the opinion that you either put ONLY old-school tattoos on yourself, or NO old-school tattoos on yourself. To me it just looks weird to have the old-school stuff on one body part and then something else somewhere else. I am just weird like that.

 

I have been thinking heavily of getting a horror flick-related tat for awhile now, I have seen some with Freddy Kruger ripping through the skin with his claws, while you see shreds of skins, muscle tissue, tendons etc....in the background with his face.....it looked REALLY GOOD.

 

Not sure, whether I will ever go through with it though, I'm gonna be 27 in July and nothing up to now has really compelled me to get any ink done.

I don't know, you guys. I've always been under the impression that tattoos are pretty low-class. Nobody in my family has a tattoo. I think we'd be shunned if we did.

Tattoos still carry that perception in our society of being low-class. I should look into the history of it; as it was looked as being a strong leader, or a high class position back in the tribal days... shit I'm sure not even that long ago it was still looked upon in that light.

Not to mention the whole thing in the Bible about having marks put on yourself. I can't site the passage right now, because I'm way too tired. What sense would it make for me to get a religious tattoo if it says in the religious text not to do so?

 

I don't look down upon people that have tattoos though. I don't really have an opinion on the whole thing, if someone wants to mark themselves up, I'm not going to care enough about it to tell them that I think it's wrong.

 

I think I dislike the people that constantly talk about how they're going to get ink, and yet they never do. If you're going to talk about it all the time and show me all these pictures of tattoos that you want to get, then do it. That's not referenced to anyone on here, that's a real life thing that bugs me to death.

In Polynesian culture they can be and still are. But in China and Japan they were used to brand criminals, in Japan they were prominent in repressed second-class indigineous tribes, and these days they're seen as being a typical triad and yakuza thing. Of course here there are gang and prison tattoos, tramp stamps, bicep bands and whatnot. Whatever... it comes down to how you carry yourself otherwise, tattoo or not.

I believe it's somewhere in Leviticus, a.k.a. the one we're all supposed to scoff at in an enlightened manner. That notwithstanding, most Orthodox and Conservative Jews disallow tattoos because of what it says in Leviticus, but also out of respect for Holocaust victims, which I feel is as good a reason as any, don't you?

I have a tattoo, no picture but it's not a big deal. Just some commie thing with free thinkers are dangerous in a sanskrit-like font across my shoulders. I like tattoos, and I use them to honor a lot of things that I will obviously carry for the rest of my life. My next two are pretty simple: I'm honoring my cat's death (I was closer to her than any person I know outside of my mother) by having her name in hierolglyphics on the inside of my left bicep, and getting my horoscope sign on the back of my neck. No big deals, and nothing I can't really hide.

 

I think they're fun and they should have a lot of personal meaning. I don't know what I could really get out of having horror movie villains or dice or skulls or chicks on me, but hey, whatever works for them, it's just not my thing. I want something I can look at a few decades down the road and still smile at for having on me.

I think that's still pretty much an accurate statement, Czech. 20 years from now, a new generation, maybe not? For now, I'd say the majority would view a person with a tattoo as a criminal or a thug or trash etc. etc.
