iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 Saying Ottawa only has "one line" is ridiculous. They're 4th and 5th lines were the whole reason they beat New Jersey. They outscored the Devils' scrubs something like 6-0. Trust me, the Senators are at least as deep as Buffalo is. And Emery's been playing pretty decent in the playoffs. I think Ottawa will beat the Sabres in 6. Red Wings probably win in 5. It just kind of feels like they've been on cruise control so far as they played way better late in their series than they have in the early games. I think they pull it together to get by Anaheim decisively.
Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted May 9, 2007 I trust that Ottawa's 5th line is very good. But, the Rochester Americans top line is better! Their head coach is Randy Cunneyworth. You can't argue it, Canucks. Bow down to Cunneyworth.

Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted May 9, 2007 Oh, let's compare Buffalo and Ottawa's 4th line, anyway. Ottawa: Saprykin/Eaves - Negative 1. No points. Good start. Comrie/Vermette - OK, they're effective. Comrie sucks against the Sabres, and I believe was the loser in the only fight that DANI FUCKING BRIERE ever won. But you know, they're better and stuff now because iggy is an expert on Ottawa's 5th line, so whatevz. Neil - Now, here's where the real value is. We don't need to say why. Buffalo (Even though they don't have a specific 4th line, we'll just take all the non-top 2 liners): Connolly - 7 assists, playing like an absolute stud despite still not being 100% Mair - 5 points, +5, hitting force. Afinogenov - Does anything need to be said. He's the most talented offensive player on the team. But, kinda stupid. Roy - K, he's a pussy, and he's kinda sucked in the playoffs. But, still, talented offensive player. More than the scrubs up there. Kotalik - Again, far more talented than the crap up there. When he tries, he's another scoring force. Gaustad - HOSS. Will make certain Senatours pay for their pussiness. Sabres win. Now, who wants to argue Miller vs. Emery. Someone. Please.

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 be fair, guys. ottawa really does only have one line. they have an alright checking line, but nothing to write home about. any team with a serviceable defensive core could shut them down. the devils best defensive defenseman was richard matvichuk. i think buffalo will pose more of a threat to them than anyone else. and if ottawa has any hopes of winning the cup, they better hope for a detroit victory in the west. anaheim will shut them the fuck down with their top 4. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2007 I know I'm asking for it...so I'll take it... But explain to me why I'm supposed to think that an Ottawa team who has lost to the Sabres 3 times in the playoffs when the Senators team was CLEARLY better is supposed to scare me in a year where there... you know... not? Do they still have a European captain? The guy who Jason Pomminville skated around shorthanded to end their last season? Give me Drury, Miller and Tallinder. I'm good. Oh yeah...sorry Ottawa... Connelly's back. Any Sens fan who watched game 1 last year (and knows hockey) knows what that means. Sabres in 5. Why 5? Because they'll get reffed out of 1. ... Just like last year

Ottawa may not have a great seed this year, but since about the middle of December, they've been playing better hockey than anyone in the NHL. They finished the season 39-9-8 and destroyed teams in Pitt and NJ that were significantly better than the Rangers squad that Buffalo was scrapping to get by. If you really think that Buffalo is better than a coin-flip to make the Finals, I think you're deluding yourself.

But explain to me why I'm supposed to think that an Ottawa team who has lost to the Sabres 3 times in the playoffs when the Senators team was CLEARLY better is supposed to scare me in a year where there... Because Buffalo looked flat against the Islanders and barely got by the Rangers, while the Sens easily dispatched the Penguins and the Devils in 5?
Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted May 9, 2007 "Easily dispatched" is a stretch. Ottawa got outplayed in a couple games by New Jersey, who were only the 2nd seed because of Brodeur, and he didn't play well for 60% of the games. The Rangers at the end of the season, were a better team than the Devils. And arguably had the better goalie. That's hardly championship hockey. Yes, the Sabres have rarely played their best so far in the playoffs. But, now is when it matters. Sabres in 4 or 5. Probably 5, because if it goes 4, NBC doesn't have a Saturday game. However, even if the officials try to give Ottawa a game... Buffalo may score more shorthanded... better not put the TEAM CAPTAIN on defense again.

Just like last year I can't believe I'm sticking up for the Sens, but here it goes. First off, there's no point in comparing the '97 and '99 series to this one. How many players from those series are still there? I've got Alfredsson, Redden, and (I think) Phillips on the Ottawa side, and I can't find anyone on Buffalo, aside from Lindy Ruff (from '99). And the Sabres were probably the favourites in '97, since they won the division and the Sens were making their first playoff appearance. Last year looked pretty bad, but really, the Sens were in every game and a few bounces go their way and that series is a lot closer. A few seconds away from winning game 1, and I know Alfreddson hit a post and Spezza put one on the goal line in games that might have given them wins. I'm not saying they would have won it, just that I think the 5 game series from last season was a lot closer than it looked. No one's saying that Buffalo's a bad team, just that Ottawa's looked better in the playoffs so far playing against better teams (higher seeded teams, at least). I feel dirty now.
