The 2007 Stanley Cup Finals

Recommended Posts

I shouldn't say this was a bitter disappointment, since the team was .500 well into December...but it was. I am crushed. I thought this was the year for sure. Anaheim just ran the Sens over this series, which I didn't expect at all.

Four months until we do this all over again.

Will you post next year if Anaheim is a sub .500 team?

How about we wait and see? They've won the Cup, now let's see how many stick around for the next few years.

There's been a trend of fans posting here, then never posting in the next season when the team has become mediocore.

This is the first time a major team I like wins a championship...the 49ers won last decade, but I didn't follow football like I do know.

Obscure trivia I found - the Ducks have been in the playoffs 5 times, and had every possible result throughout.

1st Appearance: Eliminated from Conference Semi-Finals

2nd Appearance: Eliminated from Conference Quarter-Finals

3rd Appearance: Eliminated from Stanley Cup Finals

4th Appearance: Eliminated from Conference Finals

5th Appearance: Won Stanley Cup

Shoot me.

I will never hear the end of this.

Oh calm down. At least you're within driving distance of it.

I'm a Kings fan. Why the fuck should I be happy.

I agree with this. I strongly dislike any of the "alternative" L.A./Orange County teams- The Clippers, the Angels, the Ducks, and the Rams when it was Rams and Raiders. Although I also hated the Raiders, so what could I say.

Anyways, Anaheim looked like they were running roughshod over them through the first two games, and even though Ottawa played a good game in game 3 and could've won 4, I don't think they had enough left in the tank to win. Poor Sens. Anaheim fans are seriously shitty anyways (in general, not the ones on this board). They're like Heat fans.

I haven't watched much hockey or baseball for that matter until this year out of sheer boredom, but I've gotten into both sports a lot more. It's hard when I don't have a specific team to root for in either sport, there's just a couple teams I really liked (although I was a huge Avs fan when I was younger) and it's still kind of that way.

Congratulations to the Ducks.

Strongly dislike aren't the words for me. To say that I hate those teams would be an understatement.

I go to games just to taunt fans of the Orange County teams. Last time I went to the Honda Center for a Kings-Ducks game I got into it with some guy in the parking lot. No punches, but we had words because I deliberately spat on his Ducks jersey. I was a little out of it. Well, not so deliberate, but it was windy and my spit flew near his face and onto his shoulder. And I would have went tonight if I thought that the Sens would win.

I really wish they would break off and move somewhere else. Barely anyone supports those teams unless the Lakers, Dodgers, and Kings aren't doing well anyways.

I can only say I strongly dislike them because to say I hate them would imply (for me, anyways) that I wouldn't mind seeing them dead. I don't care that much- seeing them be unsuccessful is just fine for me. Which makes this (or the Clippers advancing last year instead of the Lakers) much more disheartening.

I don't post that often because I don't analyze a lot of the players. I know who Jack Johnson, Crosby, and Ovechikin are but beyond that I can't talk about prospect.

I watch a lot of hockey when I get a chance to and I play on Sundays at a roller rink.

Yes, it's good that the Ducks won the Cup before the Kings. I really hope it helps and motives Phillip Anshultz to have a real commitment to the Kings. I want a 7 game playoff series against the two teams.

Of course there haven't been a lot of Ducks posters around here so it's hard to defend your position. Oh look at the bandwagon fans they say...so what. Every team that wins a championship has that effect. Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis had great fan bases also but ownership kill both of them. People like winning teams, who can blame them.

I don't want the NHL to expand. Create another league or something. More teams mean there is less of a chance to win a Cup. If there was still just the Original Six, Toronto, Montreal, and Detroit would have more Cups.

I feel sorry for all the Ottawa fans on this board. I wish we could have met in 2003 Finals instead. In game 5, Alffredson was doing all he could to carry the team. If the Ducks hypothetically sellout every game, it will suck for me, because I don't have season tickets.

I am happy Selanne and Giguere won the Cup.

Some pics from the rally in Anaheim. Apparently there were between 15-20,000 people there which I'm sure at least between 25-45% were bandwagon jumpers and/or tourists. Also I met George Parros in the team store, which was cool

Parade in the parking lot? It's like New Jersey, but on the west coast.

Goon hockey with parking lot parades: now with twice the Neidermayer!

Hey redbaron or CG, what did Bettman say that pissed you guys off so much? I missed it.

"who says hockey isn't alive and well in Southern California?"

That quite pissed me off a bit, but he's always scum towards me.

He just seemed so smug during the presentation, as if knew he was right all along. This is by no means a shot at Tiki or Hart or Ocean, but when the estimates of a free Cup parade feature 45% bandwagoners at a 20,000 people event, that doesn't seem like everything is running smoothly.

The whole thing just seemed like he was working on commission and trying to sell us on it. It's not so much this act itself, just the icing on the cake of his shitty reign.

I hate this "Carolina" business. It's not "Carolina's" team. It's Raleigh's team, and it's not a success.

There's more support for the Hurricanes in Carolina than most think. Someone stated that back in '00, only two or three people showed up to see the Stanley Cup when it came through Carolina. Compare that to this past year, where the Cup garnered thousands of fans everywhere it was taken, and there is obvious growth in support for the team and the sport in North Carolina. What Carolina needs to do is find consistent success that will keep the fans interested. It didn't help all the new fans exposed to hockey throughout the '05-'06 playoffs when the team hardly competed for a playoff spot in '06-'07. If they are able to return to the playoffs next season and become a consistent playoff contender, the fanbase will continue to grow and the sport will start to thrive.

1. Carolina has consistenly ranked in the bottom-third of league attendance for this entire decade

2. They had to comp tickets to the first two games of the Cup Finals last year

Some pics from the rally in Anaheim.

I went to this. I saw them fly the Cup in on a helicopter, the look on Giguere's face as the fans chanted "resign Jiggy" to the GM, got an overpriced shirt...but the best part was Governor Arnold's speech. Even Selanne did a Terminator joke, even though it led to an awkward moment where he wouldn't say if he's retiring or not, but that was the color commentator's fault for asking.

Apparently people camped out for 14 hours for this thing so there are at least a hardcore few. As long as I've followed hockey I've never cared about the Kings one way or the other, and it's easier to see them just because they're closer, but wow, what a terrible franchise. The ownership is doing some great things for LA, like revitalizing the downtown area, and signing Beckham, but hockey is just stagnating.
