We all say pop here (Southern Ontario). The long standing myth is "pop" is some Canada exclusive term and it's known as only soda in the US (I think we believed this because Family Feud on the PC didn't understand our "pop" answer) despite the fact Faygo's strawberry brand is "Red Pop". Is it just a Michigan / Midwest thing then? I have had some Americans I spoke with online not understand the term pop (or understand it but call it ridiculous and/or stupid).

This is a great gimmick and thread

Agreed. I just can't quit reading it. It's the best thread in at least a few weeks.

In southern West Virginia, we called it "pop." In northern West Virginia (there is actually a point in West Virginia that when you go north of there, everyone might as well be from Pennsylvania, Jersey, or Maryland) they call it soda. In Virginia, I think they mostly call it "soda" as well. Either term is short for "soda pop," so I always think it is stupid when people think you are retarded for saying "pop."

We call it soda here. I had never heard it referred to as "pop" until I made my journey out east 8 or so years ago.

I remember once drinking some grape soda from Faygo. Not only was it terrible, but I couldn't get the smell off of me, even after a shower. It took three showers to get the nasty smell off of me.

Same here. Don't hear it much in Miami either, although down there they refer to it by brand name (Coke or Pepsi) more.

If I ever moved to the Midwest, I still don't know how I could refer to it as pop unless people got confused or gave me strange looks for it.

I'm hoping the Braves can get their shit together before they fall too far behind the Mets and lose out on the wild card. I think San Diego passed them

Well San Diego is tied with Los Angeles for the division lead, so you have to contend with both for the WC, in case one or the other slips behind the other.

Thank you for making us aware of how the WC works.

Sigh.

Well lets see...

The investigator on the case says there is no direct evidence that Vick has ever been involved with any of the things going on there.

The investigator says that there are no witnesses to dog fighting on the property.

"The dogs, he said, appeared largely to have been well cared for, and the only one that required immediate veterinary care had a broken leg because of a birth defect."

Overall it appears the place was used for breeding, with the only thing that is making them think there was dog fighting was a pry bar(used to pry open the mouth of pits, which you do need if you breeding them by the way) and a BLOODY CARPERT(the way the press is calling it) with a "few specks" of blood which also is very consistant with dogspotting(else from breeding) and a treadmill which many kennels use to run dogs when adequate space isn't there.

Vick says he hasn't been there often and there are not witnesses to deny that.

I have never seen somone so universally considered guilty when the PROCSECUTER on the case is saying there is no case against him.

As for the informant....in the whole interview he A: Has never been to the house in question, B: Says that he knows of at least 20-30 other NFL players that bet on dog fighting....he just doesn't know any of their names. C. Vick was betting on dogs with hands full of money, 20-30 thousand on this one night....in 2000....when he was in college. If it was late 2000, it was during the season. IF it was early 2000, no buzz Michael Vick while having living on the Virginia tech campus came up with 20 thousand dollars to fight a dog he had been paying to get trained. While in college.

Even if you want vick convicted, I don't see how this isn't wait and see time, because the case against him is pretty nonexistant. And once again, this isn't me talking. Its the procesutor on the case.

And for the "But its his house" people, he bought a house for family. Don't act like that isn't unheard of. Shaq for one owns a house in every city that has a NBA team so he doesn't have to sleep in a hotel. I am pretty sure he doesn't get to all of them very often. Dozens of athletes own multiple properties. What Vicks cousin did at one of them is on Vicks cousin. He doesn't live there.

EVARY WERD EYE EMPHATHIZE MUTS BI SPELED INCORECTLY.

Prosecutor. PROSECUTOR. THERE IS NO REASON TO MISSPELL A WORD IN TWO DIFFERENT WAYS.

Geez, you know your shit but it gets lost in your horrendous spelling errors. Unacceptable at TSM.

you have to admit the misspelling of PROCSECUTER was particularly kick ass.

In my defense, I don't give a shit. The board underlines all misspellings and I just leave them there. Just because.

The greatest grape soda in the world is Grapico. Any other soda can bow down and worship it.

I'm partial to Welch's, because it's either that or store brand around here. Well, sometimes Fanta, but Fanta's only good for one thing.

See, I love white grape juice, but a nice can of grape soda is good in the summer too. What's important with grape soda is that you abandon any idea that it's supposed to taste like grape, and embrace the artificial flavor as something different and unique. If you think of it as tasting like purple, it's de-lish. It sure doesn't taste like grape. Nah dude. That's purple.

What flavours of Fanta do you get over in the U.S.A? We get Standard, Lemon and Fanta Fruit Twist, of the three I easily favour Fruit Twist, but Standard Fanta is nothing to shake a stick at either.

Strawberry, Pineapple, Orange and Grape.

I know it's really popular with hispanics, but I don't dig Jupiña (the pineapple soda you'll find in a lot of places, especially mexican restaurants). In fact, the only fruit sodas I really enjoy are orange and strawberry, which is also basically the only fruit juices I enjoy as well. Oh, apple too, but it has to be unfiltered, and I don't drink any that's from concentrate. For that, I can squeeze an orange myself and put it in a pitcher of cold water for the same effect.

And Sunny D? Yuck. Sugar juice with orange flavoring.

The only flavored sodas I drink are cherry Coke or Pepsi, and Orange Soda-especially orange soda. I love that stuff.

Ah, I forgot about the cherry colas. Those are great too, even if it was a bit of an acquired taste (at least to me it was).

I have posted before that I am addcited to Dr Pepper, indeed, very little time ever passes without me drinking it. However, I find that any attempt to tamper with it's recipe leads to an inferior taste, hmm.

I'll never be able to figure out the proper term for sugary carbonated beverages... I don't even know what I refer to them now what with the paranoia that it'll start some sort of war over colloquialisms. Back in 2002 when I went to Toronto and I referred to whichever one is the opposite of whatever they call it (which I don't even recall) my Canadian friends laughed at my failure to utilize whatever the proper term was/is
