Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 I knew "Knocked Up" wouldn't take the top spot (so did everyboy though) so seeing it at #2 isn't suprising. I figured it would do good enough.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 Knocked Up shouldn't have cost THAT much money to make...
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 30 mil for an R rated comedy is more then good enough.
Craig Th 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 It will stay in the top 10 for a while. Word of mouth is the best advertising there is.
Pegasus Kid 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 It will stay in the top 10 for a while. Word of mouth is the best advertising there is. I couldn't have said it any better. There isn't a person I know that had a bad thing to say about this movie. There's either the people that saw it and loved it or the people who haven't seen it, heard it was awesome and will see it soon. I'm surprised that a movie pulling in 29M wasn't enough for top spot, especially considering Pirates hasn't had the best of reviews (professional or otherwise). Craig Th 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 It will make $150 million.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 Knocked Up takes the top spot next week, easily. With the overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth that's going around there's no way it shouldn't.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 It will stay in the top 10 for a while. Word of mouth is the best advertising there is. I couldn't have said it any better. There isn't a person I know that had a bad thing to say about this movie. There's either the people that saw it and loved it or the people who haven't seen it, heard it was awesome and will see it soon. The only people (critics or friends) I know who didn't like Knocked Up to some extent was the local "alternative" weekly paper's film critic who gave it **. But they're just contrarian assholes over there. I'm having a hard time thinking of the last time they gave something more than *** that wasn't playing at one of the local arthouse cinemas. Craig Th 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 Knocked Up is also a movie that will do great on DVD, especially with its "unrated" DVD.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 Knocked Up takes the top spot next week, easily. With the overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth that's going around there's no way it shouldn't. It will have to compete with Clooney and those guys but after the stinkbomb that was 12, I can't imagine a huge open for that either. Don't count out the kid movie either. It should be #1 and even if it doesn't...it'll hold up for awhile anyways while the others drop quick.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 Not sure how well 12 will do in Canada considering that no critics will be allowed to view advance screenings of the movie due to Warner Bros. pitching a hissy fit about our lax piracy laws which certainly won't help the drawing power up here. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 As much as I liked Knocked Up, the chances of it being #1 right now are slim to none. I predict a strong third place finish next week (Behind Ocean's and either POTC or Surf's Up. I will say this though, Knocked Up will stick in the Top 5 for longer than any of the aforementioned other movies (except Surf's Up maybe- there aren't many kids movies out now)
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2007 Knocked Up takes the top spot next week, easily. With the overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth that's going around there's no way it shouldn't. Not at all. Surfs Up and Oceans 12 will be 1 and 2, Knocked Up will be 3.
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 Well, there's also "Hostel Part II", but I think people have tired of horror movies that rely heavily on torture. Lions Gate is going to need it to be a hit, since a lot of their movies haven't been doing that good in the box office lately.
fazzle 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 I see Knocked Up as a strong #5 next week (still around $20 million though), behind Ocean's 13, Surf's Up, Pirates, and Hostel (although Hostel will probably be a big opening, then drop off right away)
Craig Th 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 #5 is a bit low. I see Knocked Up being 3. Remember, if the movie is as good as everyone says it is, then people will go see it. Plus, it is the only adult comedy out right now and everyone loves a comedy, especially a good one.
fazzle 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 The placement isn't what's important, it's the dollar amount. A less than 1/3rd drop is really damn good for a second weekend, regardless of what position it ends up.
Craig Th 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 That is very true, but I can't remember the last time a #5 got $20 million. Bob?

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 If Knocked Up makes 20 million it will be #3 or #2. And Oceans 13 will be geared toward the older crowd. I think Knocked Up beats Pirates, b/c Pirates will fall hard next weekend.

bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 I'm surprised that a movie pulling in 29M wasn't enough for top spot, especially considering Pirates hasn't had the best of reviews (professional or otherwise). Pirates III is not the sort of movie that relies on reviews at all - it's more about whether people liked part 1 and 2 (particularly 2). Part 2 did 400+ million, and for the most part, I think people liked it despite some people on the internets dislike of it.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2007 Hostel II will likely tank next week. It's just up against too much competition and it's not the right time of year for a gruesome horror flick. If it was out in October, it'd be a decent hit. I think Ocean's 13 will probably be #1 next week. Knocked Up will probably drop a tad, but comedies seem to have solid staying power at the box office. Craig Th 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 Well, people do love themselves a horror movie and Hostel I was pretty good. I can see Hostel II doing decent. This is just a very crowded summer. I can't remember one being this packed.
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 "Hostel II" will do alright. I don't see it being a blockbuster, but it will make enough. Just don't expect a third one, as the studio and Roth have said no to a third one. He's doing an adaptation of Stephen King's "Cell" next.
Insanity 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2007 Hostel is up against tough competition (Surf's Up, the likely winner. Ocean's 13, for the older audience. Knocked Up for a good amount of people will see it based on the word of mouth. And Pirates will draw some cash in there. Not to mention the factor that kids under 17 may buy tickets for it's competitors to sneak in.) But what am I saying all this for? It cost 10 million. If it doesn't do well here it'll still make a killing on DVD.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2007 So the awful vampire movie (Rise Blood Hunter?) I saw last night because my friends that picked me up were all late for the Knocked Up showing didn't even make the top 18? No surprise, I hadn't even heard of it. I saw last night because my friends that picked me up were all late for the Knocked Up showing didn't even make the top 18? No surprise, I hadn't even heard of it. The two times this has ever happened to me, I ended up paying to see Three Strikes(easily one of th worse movies I have ever seen) and Jeepers Creepers(goddamn I hate this fucking movie). Needless to say, if you are late to the movie i want to see now, fuck it. I ain't going.
