2GOLD 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 Looks like Spider-man 3 will hold the summer lead overall. It obviously has a strong grip on the US lead but the overall lead was down to 40 million. I just don't think Pirates can make that up. So unless The Simpsons or Transformers does some major league surprising on both stages, Spider-man will win the summer. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 DOA did embarassing business. I guess Jaime Pressly kicking Kevin Nash's ass isn't the draw people thought it would be. Not a good week for the Roberts family. Poor Eric and Emma

Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 Good for knocked up. Was it Bob that put Nancy Drew over $100 million in the summer blockbuster thread? I thought it would do better then $7 million, but I figured it was too late for it to be released...do kids still read Nancy Drew?
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 DOA did embarassing business. I guess Jaime Pressly kicking Kevin Nash's ass isn't the draw people thought it would be. Not a good week for the Roberts family. Poor Eric and Emma The DOA movie wasn't straight to DVD?! I remember seeing the trailer for it with "28 Weeks Later." The whole audience shit on it. Also, it got leaked a while back, and the reaction wasn't good.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 It was mole, not me, who predicted that. I thought Nancy Drew might do around 50 million. I didnt expect it to do that poorly.

Atticus Chaos 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 Part of DOA's problem (apart from the fact it was crap) was that it was released months ago in other countries so you had all these bootleg qualities going around. Anyone mildly curious to see it would watch it for free rather than waiting months and paying for it.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 I've only seen her in Aquamarine...and you could tell she inherited her father's acting gene. I would say her aunt's ugly gene, but I don't think Julia is ugly. Emma sure is

I'd say about 5% of America does.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 DOA's problem was that it had no starpower, no ad campaign, no screens and Kevin Nash. And it just didn't look like it justified a 7 to 10 dollar movie ticket price. It's going to be one of those guilty pleasure rentals and buys I bet for a lot of people. It'll do really well on DVD I'm sure.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2007 Bear in mind one thing about Nancy Drew. The original movie series from the 30s was little more than a series of B grade programmers, so why would the character suddenly draw huge money years after the books were at a peak? Isn't Harry Potter coming out in the summer as well? I think that might end up doing the most business worldwide, but Spidey might keep #1 in the USA. POTC 3 has to be considered a slight disappointment, but really there's a shortage of truly satisfying payoffs in that movie. It's not Matrix Revolutions level lame as a payoff, but I don't think people quite got what they wanted out of At World's End.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2007 About the Pirates film: It felt more like to me that they were setting up a Jack Sparrow spin-off then ending the trilogy. It was only closure to the Will/Elizabeth storyline but who really gave a flying hell about that? And the way they ended the storyline was incredibly depressing and horribly lame. So it wasn't much of a surprise when Pirates just didn't do too well at the Box Office. Too long, very unsatisfying, boring storyline we didn't really care about becomes the focus and the one we thought we were getting just gets glossed over.
