Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Just updating a Titles spreadsheet thing I've been working on, and wanted to be clear on a few things One is, how many different wrestlers have won the title under different "gimmicks" not a different name change ala Hunter Hearst Helmsley/Triple H or Rocky Miavia/The Rock (yes I know neither won a tag title under the original moniker, but they did win IC belts) where only the official name of the character changed but not the entire gimmick. So far I can only think of is Mankind/Dude Love/Cactus Jack (Foley really did make all three unique and different characters) and Mike Rotoundo/IRS Anyone think of others? Thanks

Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Does it count that Edge and Christians wore the Conquistador gear and won them? So did the Hardys, no I'm not counting either because they were revealed rather quickly Also despite Billy Gunn using a different gimmick, he still used the "Billy Gunn" name in the three different Tag Title winning gimmicks actually Smoking Gunns DX/New Age Outlaws (granted he was an NAO before DX) Half of the Ambigously Gay "Oh we really aren't gay its all an act" Duo with Chuck Palumbo He also won the KOR as the Assman Billy Gunn (King Ass) and the IC as "The One" Billy Gunn (What the HELL was that anyway? A rip on Luger's "The Total Package" or something?) Re-tooling a character is one thing (Ringmaster/Stone Cold, Rocky/Rock, Helmsley/Triple H), changing how you look and act is another (Sting, JBL), but what Billy Gunn went through is downright crazy. Australian Pride 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 How about Rikishi? Won them as Headshrinker Fatu, then later as Rikishi.
Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Mind if I ask what the story on this spreadsheet is? Fun hobby I was constructing while in college, picked it up here and there, just realized that I hadn't updated the tag team titles since 2001. Basically just seeing who has been the most honored wrestlers in the WWF/WWE and such. Hence the gimmicks questions since generally the title history sites I cross reference just list the gimmick name, not the wrestler's given name or common name if it is the same guy, i.e. Mick Foley is listed as his various character names, not "Mick Foley"
Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 How about Rikishi? Won them as Headshrinker Fatu, then later as Rikishi. There ya go. And I think its even in Kayfabe that its the same 'Kishi right? Thanks.

Right forgot about X-Pac because, well X-Pac sucks! Ehem... FWIW Sparky Plugg actually is listed in the aforementioned site as "Bob Holly" interestingly enough wrestling-titles.com

Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 Okay, my count is as of 7/2/07 there are 212 different persons to hold at least one of the recongized tag belts on WWWF/WWF/WWE programing WWWF US Tag from 1957-1967 which was abandoned due to then champ Bruno Sammartino winning the Heavyweight belt WWWF International Tag from 1969-1971 except for a run by Tatsymi Fujinami & Kengo Kimura in 1985 who beat Dick Murdoch and Adrian Adonis for the title as part of New Japan's partnership with the WWF WWWF/WWF/WWE World Title that we all know and love since 1971 The Smackdown! Tag belts The WCW tag belts starting with Natural Born Thrillerz (Chuck Palumbo/Sean O'Haire) reign untill the Unification match at Survivor Series The NWA World Tag that changed hands twice on WWF TV as part of Jim Cornette's NWA angle which featured The Rock & Roll Express losing it to the Headbangers who then dropped it to Bob Holly and Bart Gunn as the "New Rock & Roll Express" Title was abandoned when the angle was dropped. Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 BTW, the leader with most times holding a specific belt is Raven with 26 Hardcore titles. The leader for non-joke singles titles is Moolah with 8 Womens titles (one as Slave Girl and another as Spider Lady) and Chris Jericho with 8 IC Title reigns (includes his sharing with Chyna) I believe Edge leads the tag race with 12 but I'm working on that list right now. Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 Yup, its Edge, followed by Billy Gunn, Kane, Bubba and D-Von all with 10. Christian has 10 too, doesn't he? 9; 7 with Edge (all WWF belts (currently on Raw of course) both are 2nd all time to the Dudley's 10 different tag titles and 8 WWF tag titles) 1 each with Lance Storm and Chris Jericho And yes this includes their Los Conquistador "run" Edge also has titles with Chris Benoit (2) Rey Mysterio Jr, Hulk Hogan and Randy Orton Billy Gunn won with Road Dogg (5), Bart (3), and Chuck Palumbo (2) Kane won with Undertaker (3), Mankind (2), X-Pac (2), Hurricane, RVD, and The Big Show Neither Dudley won a tag title without each other
Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 BTW, The Dudleys/Team 3D have 8 more titles from ECW and, I guess you have to say two more in TNA since they have new belts now since the split. With Animal winning a title sans Hawk I wonder if that total of 20 is the most of any tag team champions without one of its members winning a championship belt with a different partner. Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 Another inneresting tidbit, 111 (I also counted El Gran Hamada/Perro Aguayo's UWA reign when it was part of the WWF as well, neither men are listed in that 200+ list I posted above) men have held a tag belt just once. Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 Whats the count on Booker T and if possible how many won without Stevie Ray? 4 on WWF TV, won the "WCW" belts with Test in September of 01 and then the two won the WWF belts about a month later. He also won with Goldust and RVD Harlem Heat was a 10 time WCW World Tag champions, the aforementioned 4 would be the only titles Booker has won without Stevie Ray

Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2007 Getting back to the original thread here... Jeff/Matt Hardy, as themselves and before that as the New Freebirds. I don't think they ever officially called themselves "The New Freebirds" on official WWF merchandise and TV graphics. Oh sure Michael P. Hayes was their manager and all but I think they were still just Matt & Jeff Hardy
