Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2007 Toxxic: The FAQ cites announcers and production values as being "examples" of what causes drops. The good news is that you've apparently narrowed down the list of options beyond this, but the bad news is I can't find any other examples anywhere. Sophie say anything out of the ordinary? On WMMA (the MMA Ryland game): I like it, but I don't like it. I mean, I love the booking setup and I wish I could jam that into EWR because the rest of it is the same complex TEW system that I can't stand. I didn't really need profile information, I liked being able to see someone's stats right off the bat, being able to offer them a contract, have them sign and be able to work that night like EWR. TEW and now WMMA are just slow, methodical "negotiations" with the same result. I've had fighters in the demo request and then demand negotiations within seven days (I wasn't really paying attention and didn't notice the first request email; guess they didn't like that). On about day three after the demand I asked each of them to go into negotiations. They all waited in excess of a week to get back to me, and this is after their demand email told me that they would quit if I didn't negotiate with them within seven days. Jerks. "If I don't get to negotiate within a week I am quitting!" "Okay, let's negotiate that contract." "Not now, I'm busy. How about a week and a half from now?" "....." Also, they always want 5% more in a signing bonus than the game auto-offers, so you constantly have to fix that. It rounds up (no big deal) but they will not accept ONE DOLLAR LESS in a signing bonus. If I'm paying you $25,000 per fight and giving you an Associate contract while letting you out of the Rolling one, I do not think you should be whining that you want $5250 as a signing bonus instead of the $5249 I offered. If I could have WMMA's booking style with EWR it would be the perfect wrestling simulator. As it is now, for my tastes anyway, it's like I'm not even playing the game. I just go into the screens and it tells me what's a good fight to schedule (very handy) and I schedule it. Booking fights/matches (EWR's weakness with the constant cycle of 9 decisions * 4 matches + 3-5 decisions * 4 angles/interviews) is pathetically easy in this game, but everything else is just inconvenience after inconvenience, from having to wait in excess of a week for EVERY contract negotiation (previously a 10-second search, click "Offer contract", click the "Offer" button and then hit OK when they accept process) to having to fish through menu after menu to find the information I'm looking for while the things that you won't even bother with (like 95% of the Finance screen) sit on the home page and are CPU-controlled. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2007 Oldskool, have you got the latest WMMA patch that was released today? I tried TEW '07 using the default data. I played as the SWF, which is the Cornellverse WWE, and I've booked three shows so far; two TV's and a PPV. It was fun. My first TV main event was a six-man tag, with a Main Eventer, an Upper Midcarder and a Midcarder on each team. I was the babyface midcarder, and did the clean job to the heel World champion. The main event of the PPV was a four-way match with two heels and two babyface for the World title, so the main event of the second TV show, and last one before the PPV, saw the two heels team up to take on the two babyfaces. The babyfaces won by DQ but were laid out by the heels, and then the heel champion turned on his partner and was the only man standing when the show ended. Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2007 I just picked it up; haven't had the chance to run it yet. I also snagged a WreSpi2 update, so I'm happy.
Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2008 Found some more information on those low ratings for Toxxic: Take this example of how one stat can influence the overall rating, for instance. This doesn't include every stat involved in the equation, but is a good indication of how the rating can be smaller than expected: Ref's ability: 80 Production staff members' ability: 82 Announcers' average ability: 75 Road agents' ability: 70 Crowd reaction: 92 Match quality: 87 Overall Average: 81 So, even with a high crowd reaction and match quality, the other factors bring the overall down to an 81, whereas people would tend to expect an 89 or something to that effect. Toxxic 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2008 Which makes sense... but it doesn't explain why my other two shows were coming out with the expected ratings for matches, and my primetime slot (same announcers) was coming out lower! The thing is, that seems to have changed now. My primetime show is now doing business as usual. And I have NO IDEA WHY. It's really bugging me though. Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 TEW2008 announced as in Development over on Greydog. Hopefully he can balance a few issues regarding 'brands' they seemed rather useless in TEW2007, and often led to problems in real world data.
Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2008 Over 200 additions were advertised; what they are I've no idea, considering that a huge portion of the game's inner mechanics are already editable, but I look forward to the Developer diaries as always. Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2008 For those interested the latest version of TEW is being developed by Adam as we speak! He's got a running log of all the updates to be released with the new game, so far it sounds AMAZING. TEW09
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 The problem with TEW is it almost has too many features. It's hard for me to get excited about all these new additions, when TEW 2k7 didn't exactly run blazingly fast for me, and I didn't use half the features in that. WMMA is the exact opposite. Ryland left out a few critical features in that game that absolutely should not have been left out. WMMA is very close to being a fantastic game, but it just lacks that little bit needed. The non-inclusion of tournaments is by far the most glaring example of a feature missing in WMMA.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 I figured with the rebirth of this thread I'd download EWR again and start over. However, I'm not one of those who assume I can book better than most bookers (well, maybe the current Russo) so I'd figure I'd try to build up a cult level on Easy just to start out. So I'm starting out with IRON and I'm trying to overhaul my roster. Can't afford CM Punk (unfortunately) and I'm trying to avoid dual promotion workers just because I have the feeling I'm going to get screwed over at the worst possible time. Do you think I oughta try to tie up some younger workers who can actually work to small written deals, or should I stick to open contracts? Only running one show a month so it basically boils down to an open contract "per appearance" deal, but I like the thought of getting a crew of young workers to long term deals and trying to build them up along with my fed. I can probably sign 4 or 5 (at least) relatively young workers who are unemployed and not on open deals. Or would that be financially irresponsible in some way that I can't see?
Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 It'd actually be more financially responsible than anything. Once you get a TV deal, everyone on an open contract basically gets their pay multiplied by 5 every month they're on the roster, everyone on a written deal doesn't see a change. If you're bringing in a handful of guys to be the gunners for your roster for years to come, going written and locking them up long-term is a smart business move. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 That's what I thought, but everyone was on open deals and I was curious. I figured it was because it gave everyone an opportunity to "Bigger Better Deal" me if they got signed to a developmental deal with the E or TNA, ROH, whatever. There's some surprisingly good young guys available at the start of the scenario who only lack overness so they're available at a relatively cheap rate. I'll have to see if I can tie them up for a while.
Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 TEW08 demo is out, gives you 1 months game play of the CornellUniverse. Full game out next Sunday.
AlaskanHero 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 Chriswok, have you had any luck logging onto the GDS board? The release of the demo seemed to have knocked the entire board offline.
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 GDS's board is deeeeeeead. I dunno what happened, but man, their bandwidth got ate alive. I like TEW 08...but the game still has issues. Touring is still broken and unrealistic. All the major talent is continually ending up in the big feds. The data has issues, and in a lot of ways it just feels like Ryland ported the last TEW's data and updated some stuff. You can't even play PGHW in the data as it's set up because the game won't let you alter their touring details (they have a "tour" contracted wrestler), and the fed doesn't tour in the demo month. Little stuff like that is stupid.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I'm playing EWR 4.2, lost my TV deal over BS reasons and even though I'm the top federation out there, I can't get a third TV show. It's killing me
Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 GDS' site was crashed by people mashing refresh. Coincidentally, it went down just before Ryland was about to upload the game, so the people sitting there all morning waiting for it and refreshing actually made themselves wait an extra three hours. JHawk 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 GDS' site was crashed by people mashing refresh. Coincidentally, it went down just before Ryland was about to upload the game, so the people sitting there all morning waiting for it and refreshing actually made themselves wait an extra three hours. What makes that even more hilarious is the fact that they said for weeks they wouldn't say what time the demo would be released to prevent people from mashing refresh. Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 Double hilarity, they announced it wouldn't come out until Arlie woke up (he's in the US, Central time zone) and they had people from the UK mashing refresh starting at midnight UK time.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 I'm planning to start a new EWR game after the draft if there is a recent roster update (as in the past month).
Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 There's one for June 1st, and I imagine there'll be one for July 1 as well. Somebody's been pretty religious about getting monthly updates, though I personally haven't played EWR recently enough to say if they're any good. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 Thanks for the link. The June 1st one will do mejust fine, as I can manually edit in whichever changes take place during the draft. I figured that'd be a good starting point. Actually, after the PPV would be better since it's 6 days after the draft.

haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Did anyone here ever play the old Promotion Wars game? I played it until I discovered EWR, and never looked back. I tried playing PW again not too long ago, and found it nearly unplayable. Was still an admirable effort on behalf of the programmer though. I still remember how resource-consuming PW was. Back in 2001, I would have to shut down nearly everything running on my computer just to get the game to boot without crashing. PW2 was supposed to be released, but IIRC whoever was working on the game encountered some "out of memory" message, and decided to cancel further development. Scotsman somehow got hold of a copy of the game, fixed the problem, and offered to give the fixed copy back to PW's programmer, but they got into a spat and the idea was thrown out. Still would have liked to have seen what PW2 had to offer, given how much it was promoted and hyped.
Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2008 Oh man, now your bringing back memories. I remember Promotion Wars! I remember installing it on the School computers for something to do on rainy days, but then it got out of hands as all my mates wanted copies too. The School Computers never recovered.
