Corkscrew_Senton Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 This is something that's been touched upon in the WWE folder, but what if WWF had gone under in 1997? Would ECW have added the old WWF fans to become No. 2 to WCW?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Would ECW have added the old WWF fans to become No. 2 to WCW? Doubtful. WWF fans are weaned on star power and major league showmanship, qualities ECW sorely lacked. You might have got some WWF fans liking it, but the majority would have considered it low-rent and not bothered.
Boxer Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 What if X-Pac never returned to the WWE and DX was dead after Wrestlemania? Does HHH go back to blueblood or singles heel and he HIMSELF is DX?
Diamonddust Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 What if X-Pac never returned to the WWE and DX was dead after Wrestlemania? Does HHH go back to blueblood or singles heel and he HIMSELF is DX? While it wouldn't have had as big of an impact (WCW star jumping ship to WWE instead of the other way around), they probably would have put someone else in the spot since The Outlaws were already being groomed to be part of DX as well.
cabbageboy Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Yeah X-Pac was just some guy tossed in there. As long as they had HHH/Chyna and the NAO there would have been a DX nucleus.
Guest Hadley Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Heres a worst-case-scenario one: What if the fight between sid vicious and arn anderson in England went too far and one or both of them was killed? Would that have killed the business back then? (it probably would have killed wcw in a matter of days)
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Heres a worst-case-scenario one: What if the fight between sid vicious and arn anderson in England went too far and one or both of them was killed? Would that have killed the business back then? (it probably would have killed wcw in a matter of days) WCW wouldn't draw in England again, and they'd probably lose what TV they had over there. The rest of their European business would have suffered as well. As for what it would have done for domestic business, that would probably depend on what kind of media reaction it got and how WCW handled it. Most likely a lot of short term damage, probably for a year so, but I think things would have recovered somewhat after about 18 months.
alfdogg Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 (edited) What if HTM agreed to job the IC title to Savage at SNME? EDIT: "The Main Event I", actually. Edited September 16, 2007 by alfdogg
Hawk 34 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 What if Samoa Joe takes the WWE deal instead of TNA/ROH? Does Joe get the Umaga gimmick? Does Joe get treated the same as CM Punk? Would Cena push for his boy to get a main event program with him? Does Foley finally get to work with him? I don't think it hurts ROH all that much since Danielson, Punk (at the time), Styles, Homicide and Daniels were still around and we've seen that ROH without Joe right now, isn't hurting at all. TNA has fucked Joe around since the start with some horrible booking, I'm not quite sure it really changes anything other then it puts someone else in that spot instead.
Corkscrew_Senton Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 TNA has fucked Joe around since the start Saying he's been fucked since Angle came in is accurate, but Joe's first year in TNA he was booked as an unstoppable bad ass. He was the company's most over face, he was dominant as X Division champion and he was in the company's hottest feud of '05 through the first half of '06.
cabbageboy Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I think Angle's idea of giving Joe a rub is to feud with him and beat him in every meaningful match. But Joe's getting that rub from facing the best, right Kurt?

But Joe's getting that rub from facing the best, right Kurt? Fuck Angle. Seriously. To think Joe was "getting fucked" his first full year is ridiculous, typical ROH fan bashing TNA when it's apparent they weren't paying attention. TNA doesn't do much right, but Joe was one of the exceptions. A year ago at this time, I was positive he was being groomed as TNA's mega-face champion. But since KURT! showed up? Yeah, he's been fucked over badly since then.
Timmy8271 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 What if HTM agreed to job the IC title to Savage at SNME? EDIT: "The Main Event I", actually. Dibase would have beat Hogan at Mania and Savage would have fought HTM at Mania. Here's one: What if Steve Austin had stayed in ECW longer? Would he have beaten either Whipwreck or Sandman for the ECW title?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 What if Steve Austin had stayed in ECW longer? Would he have beaten either Whipwreck or Sandman for the ECW title? It depends on how long he stayed, but Heyman did want to put the title on Austin.
Richard Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 What if Lex Luger had sold out to Dibiase instead of Tatanka? Would things have been too different in the long run?
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 What if Angle didn't go to TNA and stayed with WWE? He left a little bit before the Benoit tragedy and the whole steroid thing. Considering he was WWE's biggest "real" name, he would have been brought up to the media and the fact that he himself has/had a problem with pain killers and how his body has turned to crap since turning to pro wrestling. Was it for the best for both WWE, Angle, and even TNA for him to have left?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 What if Vince sided with Bret in 1997 and pushed Shawn out of the company?
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 HBK and HHH would have left with Nash and Hall. The entire wrestling world as we know it today would be different. The Clique would have ended up being the NWO. HHH would never have been with Steph. Hogan may not have turned heel. WWF would not have had DX and would never have recovered from the Monday Night Wars.

The Clique would have ended up being the NWO. HHH would never have been with Steph. Hogan may not have turned heel. WWF would not have had DX and would never have recovered from the Monday Night Wars. This would have happened over a year after Nash and Hall left, so the NWO and Hogan turn would have still happened, and DX would have been born, but they'd have only existed for a few months.
Boxer Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 What if Vince sided with Bret in 1997 and pushed Shawn out of the company? HBK and HHH head to WCW and debut at Souled Out 98. Meanwhile, back at the WWF, Bret and Austin rebuild their storyline after Survivor Series 1997. Austin wins the 1998 Royal Rumble, Bret sucessfully defends the belt against Taker/Vader/Shamrock, whomever at Royal Rumble. Also, along the way Bret and Owen win the tag titles to erase the Steiners as the last brother tag team to win the tag titles. Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin at Wrestlemania 14 with Mike Tyson as special ref. Austin wins, and a different attitude era begins. Meanwhile, the Hart Foundation turns on Bret calling him a loser and VINCE MCMAHON turns out to be the guy to form the Hart Foundation and becomes the new leader of the group. So where's the backstory on this? When Bret attacked Vince in Halifax in July of 1997, notice the Hart's didn't put up a fight WITH Bret? It was all a ploy to get the Harts to eventually turn on Bret and he becomes a face again and begins to feud with the Hart Foundation. Meanwhile Austin feuds with guys like Taker, Rock, a heel Shamrock, Mankind, etc........ The WWF locker room is a much happier place with the "clique" now gone. Meanwhile, in WCW. The politics all blow up by mid 1998. Hogan, Sting, Goldberg, Savage, Flair and other WCW mainstays or stars are pissed at the fact that the clique has formed and has basically gotten a death grip on TV, Bischoff and all the titles. Nash is World Champion, Hall is US Champion, Syxx is Cruiserweight Champion, and HHH and HBK are tag team champions dubbing themselves Outsiders version 2.0. Sting and Goldberg jump to the WWF by 1999. Ratings spike initally as HHH and HBK are in WCW. But by mid 1998 Nitro is stale due to the nWo going over EVERYONE and literally pissing offf each and every person in the locker room and in the board room. Ted Turner has to walk into the WCW locker room and give them a pep talk. Benoit, Guererro, Saturn, etc... all go to New Japan or back to ECW. Meanwhile at Wrestlemania 15, Bret Hart battles his last match against his brother Owen Hart in a 5 year Wrestlemania rematch with Vince McMahon as the special referee. The same sequence happens with the victory roll on Owen, which gets reversed by Owen, into the sharpshooter and Owen taps out. Bret retires getting his revenge on McMahon and the Hart Foundation. Meanwhile, the main event for Wrestlemania 15 is still The Rock vs. Stone Cold. Sting vs. The Undertaker is also on the card while Goldberg wins the IC title. By late 1999, Test and Stephanie start dating. Bret Hart nods with approval of the guy he brought into the WWF. WCW folds by 2001. Test and Stephanie offically get married in 2003 and Test is now a 2 time WWF champion. Bret becomes a member of the creative team and is officially 7 years into his 20 year contract. As for HHH and HBK? They go TNA and reek havoc there. Jeff Jarrett nods with approval.
Timmy8271 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 What if Lex Luger had sold out to Dibiase instead of Tatanka? Would things have been too different in the long run? Nothing much would have changed. Lex would still have gone to WCW. Maybe Lex would have gotten a Intercontinental title shot. What if Angle didn't go to TNA and stayed with WWE? He left a little bit before the Benoit tragedy and the whole steroid thing. Considering he was WWE's biggest "real" name, he would have been brought up to the media and the fact that he himself has/had a problem with pain killers and how his body has turned to crap since turning to pro wrestling. Was it for the best for both WWE, Angle, and even TNA for him to have left? I think he would have been ECW champion and probably feud with RVD. But you could tell he wasn't going to last much longer on that schedule. It was best for WWE and Angle that he left. TNA? Not so much because it's now just Total Nonstop Angle. What if Vince sided with Bret in 1997 and pushed Shawn out of the company? Bret would still have left and Macho Man would have come back to the WWE. Without Shawn, The Stone Cold character would have been different. He would have probably still been popular but what would the Wrestlemania 14 main event be? Austin vs Taker?

I forgot that Nash and Hall left in 96. My mistake.
Boxer Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 What if Hall or Nash only went to WCW by themself? Would they get over?
Cheech Tremendous Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 What if Hall or Nash only went to WCW by themself? Would they get over? Hall was getting over just fine before Nash showed up. He would have done fine (as would Nash).
Boxer Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 What if Edge stayed in WCW? Where would his career go?
Cheech Tremendous Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 What if Edge stayed in WCW? Where would his career go? When was Edge in WCW?

King Kamala Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 What if Edge stayed in WCW? Where would his career go? Nowhere really. Maybe a brief run with The TV title.
AlexPuma Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 What if Ludvig Borga ended up staying longer in the WWF than he did? Would he eventually become a credible main eventer? Would the much-rumored Lex Luger vs Ludvig Borga WrestleMania main event happen? Would he had enough heat to be a mainstay in the company for years to come? Would him being one of the top heels help or hurt the WWF in the long run? And about the Edge in WCW thing. I think he would have been a decent WCW midcarder that puts on good matches but never makes it up the card. During the invasion, he'd be squashed and forgotten like Mike Awesome or Kanyon. Then he'd go to TNA, get a decent uppercard run before losing to Jarrett and then probably retire or have an outstanding career in Japan.

Whether he would have had staying power is a different question.
