Damn, Hot Rod bombed.

I REALLLLY hope SuperBad doesn't do as poorly next week. Though a lot of people I've talked to said they want to see it.

I really doubt it will bomb, alot of theatres around here are already doing advance ticket sales, and everytime the trailer plays during a film I go to, people are responding. I think it comes out on the 17th though, not next Friday.

Better go see Hot Rod before it leaves next week at that rate. Alot of people I've talked to havent even heard of it, so I think we can blame half on the advertising and half on the fact that there isnt any star power attached, too.

It is all but official this was a really strong summer for the motion picture industry? People are still coming out pretty heavily for films as we move into August here.

How can Superbad bomb the trailers for the movie make it the funniest film of the summer with Balls of Fury as a close second. It's going to make $15 million opening week on the back of McLovin, Seth Rogan, and the endless fans of Arrested Development.

Damn, Bourne killed this week. I didn't think it would go over that big.

Hot Rod looks like the kind of movie I would like, but I have no interest in seeing it. For some reason I am glad to see Lohan's movie eating it badly at the boxoffice

Can't wait for Superbad.

Balls of Fury just looks horrible. It's one of those movies where they got Christopher Walken thinking it would make them cool, but he's been too overexposed in comedies. Plus, I saw the trailers last year, this movie has been heavily delayed.

Hot Rod was alright, but I think it's funny that it tanked. I think Superbad opens to around 20 mil

I'll say Superbad opens with $15 million at #3 or #4 for the weekend. It's got a lot of buzz amongst my friends but I don't think it'll really appeal to outside of the 18 to 24 demographic that 40 Year Old Virgin or Knocked Up did.

I'm really looking forward to seeing it though. Probably the movie I've been most looking forward to all summer.

I saw the trailer for "Balls of Fury" with "Borat" a while back. The fact that they pushed it back, and that it's gotten little promotion, is a bad sign.

The Bratz movie tanked as I knew it would. Yet another bomb for Lionsgate this year.

Balls of Fury = Dodgeball its going to be huge it's a over the top cheap humor movie with star power....Hot Rod looks like an extended SNL skit that appeals to a small audience.

Of course it bombed it didn't stay true to the original source material that being jailbait latinas wearing too much makeup.

I guess I'd better see Hot Rod before it's gone. I was thinking of using my free ticket to see it today and then sneak into Harry Potter... I probably should have.

Ah yes, but Superbad might appeal to the same crowd that made stuff like American Pie a hit. I'm very interested in seeing it. The other major release that week is The Invasion, but the buzz on that movie isn't really so hot.

My eyes hurt after reading this.

I saw The Balls of Fury trailer before Hot Fuzz and there was not a single laugh to be had. And this was a raucous opening night audience where a lot of the audience was probably stoned out of their gourd and willing to laugh at almost anything.

This looks like one of those comedies that has Walken in it for the sake of Walken in it and for no other reason. Sort of OT but what was the last non-comedy movie Walken was in? The guy has made a good career out of spoofing himself for the last 15 years or so. I'm not sure if he could go back to dramas now.

razateca should go back to not posting.

I think Hot Rod bombed because while people like the SNL Digital Shorts, it's not something anyone wants to see stretched out to 90 minutes where they're forced to pay $10. Samberg's just not big enough for his own star vehicle

Superbad really doesn't have the broad appeal of Knocked Up. Knocked Up was something my mom was interested in and there was some old lady sitting behind me during that movie.

Yeah, a good portion of the audience when I saw Knocked Up was middle aged couples. I don't think Superbad will get that demographic. Still I think it'll make plenty of money in theaters and it'll make an absolute killing on DVD.

Off topic, but the most out of place movie patron I've ever seen was when I saw Hustle and Flow, there was an elderly white woman behind me and the weird thing is she really enjoyed the movie. Go figure. Either that or this middle aged guy that sat next to me and my friends when we saw Reign of Fire and yelled at us for making wisecracks amongst ourselves throughout the movie. And the odd thing was we were the only ones in theater. Why he sat next to us I'm not sure.

I don't see SuperBad doing less than 20 million during it's opening weekend, with strong success afterwards similar to Knocked Up. You got the screenings, Seth Rogan becoming a star, word of mouth, and all the great summer flicks have been released. It should do pretty well.

Andy Samberg + "Hulkamania" shirt = good movie.

I just got back from Hot Rod. I pointed that out to my buddy too. First Hader was wearing some random Stone Cold shirt and then Andy was in a Hulkamania shirt. It's sad that I notice wrestling products in movies (Cheaper by the Dozen had one of those Hurricane teddy bears and Grandma's Boy had tons of wrestling stuff, including Nick Swardson's head photo shopped onto Cena's body on his computer).

Hot Rod was a lot more bizarre than I was expecting. I enjoyed it, but I wasn't expecting the complete randomness. With all the people talking about it, I am saddened no one has mentioned the best character in the movie yet. Richardson was the best in the movie.

How could you expect anything less-bizarre from the people who brought you Laser Cats.

And hell yes to Richardson. I bought that shirt he was wearing (charming/sexy/awesome checklist) as soon as I got home.

Cool beans.

That's true. I blanked on Laser Cats. I think it was that I was expecting the typical SNL alum type of movie and it was something completely out of left field.

This thread right here is where I found out that Hot Rod was something from SNL.

And I just thought it was some random stupid looking movie.

Now I know better. It's a stupid looking SNL movie. I feel enlightened.
