WWE.com is reporting that during a standard Wellness policy physical, an abnormal accessory pathway to the heart (Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome) was discovered in US Champion, MVP. It is a potentially life threatening condition that could lead to a heart attack if untreated. He will be able to continue wrestling because according to WWE.com, MVP "underwent a precarious radio frequency treatment this past Monday – a procedure that is equally dangerous in that one in 1,000 individuals die during it. Next week, tests will be performed again to see if the procedure was a success."

WWE.com says that the testing took place at the Great American Bash. The body of the story is written to explain how The Wellness Policy caught this condition early. A cynic might say that mentioning the Bash and the benefits of the policy are a calculated move by WWE. A cynic may be right, but you also can't deny that the policy did what people want it to do either.

I can't* believe that they have MVP on TV right now using all of this as part of his angle with Matt Hardy.

*ok...I can believe it.

It's easy and cheap heat. It's not the worse real life situation that WWE has exploited.

Wow, All I have to say is that this is good news that they caught this. We've seen so many athletes just drop dead during a game......Reggie Lewis of the Celtics, Hank Gathers of Loyola MAramount in College B-Ball, Korey Stringer in NFL, among many others.......The policy did a good thing, but somehow I see some people here putting a negative spin on it.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk or anything, but is there a chance they're taking something and running with it to say 'See, our Wellness Policy works!' now that Congress has them under the magnifying glass?

Exactly. While I'm glad he condition was caught (last thing we need is another one dropping dead, both as fans and for the business), it is also an obvious attempt by the WWE to put over how "thorough" and "top of the line" their Wellness Policy is. The WWE.com article praises it (the policy) numerous times--if they weren't under fire, it would probably be all about MVP's condition, as it should be. Instead, it's a slightly awkward rah-rah piece.

Pardon my lack of knowledge on all this, but this is actually a part of a storyline in their program? HUH?!! I just heard about this, like, right now, in terms of it all relating to MVP. I gotta say....something aint right with incorporating a real life condition like this (assuming it's legit and isn't just some spin to play into the congress issue) into a produced storyline. But I dont know much for details (havent watched Smackdown yet) so this is all out of left field and maybe I'm overreacting.

Whatever the case, like most have said, this seems to be a case of "Look at how great our Wellness Policy is!" or something. Point is being made but it's so transparent I can see right through it.

IF it is legit, then its good that they picked it up. If it's just a way to get the wellness program over, then its a waste of time.

I Strongly doubt it... WWE wouldnt go that far to say one of their workers has a heart disease just so they can gain face with the public

I do hope MVP is all well and healed up...

The same way they wouldn't use a recently deceased wrestlers death in a story line?

(sigh) WWE is capable of stupid things... and if this is one of them.... then i dont know what to say

I don't put anything past WWE creative at this point. Especially after the Lita miscarriage angle from a few years back, and the way they turned Eddie's corpse face down in the mud and raped its ass for a year.

I really hope that this isn't the case, I'm just saying that I won't let anything past them anymore.

Quick question. Are you equally as dumbfounded when the annoucers dicuss that *pick sports team* is at a profound disadvantage because *star player* isn't in the game due to injury.? You know, how dare they exploit said condition as a talking point for their broadcast.

I mean, it'd be different if they were making it up. But discussing a legit condition is perfectly normal.

Everyone who was close to Eddy and not relying on WWE for financial reasons insists he would have hated it, with Konnan also pointing out that Antonio Pena wanted to do an angle based off Art Barr's death and Eddy refused.

No one's suggesting they're making it up, because MVP's condition is legit. People are just questioning, rightfully so, how it's being used to trumpet the value of the Wellness Policy when the policy has come under so much warranted flak over the past month or so.
