Madden NFL 08

There was no thread on this, amazingly. the game will be released in the Eastern time zone in less than an hour and a half. I will not be able to afford it at launch, but I will play it tomorrow since my workout partner has it preordered.

Theres no reviews for the Nintendo version but alas I think I remember reading they messed around with the controls, even though they worked for me quite well in 07.

I don't know about the Wii version, but the main difference in the 360 and PS3 versions is said to be the framerate, which is only 30 fps on the PS3.

I found an early preview on the Nintendo control changes:

 

- the kicking controls have been made easier, which is probably the only improvement Im for over 07

- bluff your play calling, which only works if you're playing a human opponent (and in the same room)

- on screen move suggestions

- telestrator mode on replays so you can go old school madden when you make a big play..

- Family mode (simplified play for 4 players, no nunchuck used)

- 30 Mini games and a "Party mode" that no one knew anything about at the time.

- It will be online enabled in one way or another..

 

Basically everythings been dumbed down for obvious reasons..

Rookie potential is actually a new feature in and of itself, in that now, rookies with different expectation levels can become gems or busts over time. These icons don't pop up until a player has been in the league for a little while, but it's all about what a player's potential is. If a player turns out to be greater than his draft position would initially suggest, he'll get a gem icon and actually perform above his stats. Busts are, as you'd imagine, the polar opposite. Even a bust can still be a useful player if you find a way to get him to make plays, but it's far more challenging a prospect than with any other player.

 

Awesome. It's the little things like that that impress me.

A question for those who have played on Live: Does clicking the left thumbstick/R3 still mute your voice? I was incredibly annoyed by that in Madden 07, because every time I would make my player run, I'd accidentally mute and it made conversations very difficult.

After getting the game, I want to say it's pretty good. I like that you can manipulate the system that your favorite team drafts your player. So Bears, here I come.

For anyone who has Madden ''08 on the Wii: In terms of gameplay is it more similar to madden 07 on the 360/PS3 or Madden '07 on the PS2?

I had read that the defence learns and evolves during the game, and the LB have more aweness, apprently EA were too keen on all the people complaining about people QB rushing all the time in Madden 07, so they've put a stop - to some extent to it.

 

I guess by the lack of response in this topic, that the game is good - at least for the first 12 hours.

My biggest complain has always been the DB's not making a accurate play on the ball. I get a guy in perfect position between the reciever and the ball, hit the catch button and he reaches like the pass is low and behind him when the ball is clearly there for a jump catch. The reciever of course sees this and catches the ball.

Well my first madded buy since 05 version and im very happy. Even if it is the "lacking PS3 Version". I love it and I love the carrer leaderboards and HoF and all the little things. The D seems to be better but i only played on Pro so far and a couple of games online so I cant say too much yet.

Well, I can't wait 2 weeks for the UK release of the 360 version, so I've got my hands on the PC version for now. I'll give that a go and see what its like.

I am doing much better now. It just took me a bit to get in the groove.

 

It's not like playing NCAA. If I run out of the pocket, chances are Eli isn't going to complete the pass. Just stay in the pocket and throw it to Shockey. He is basically a receiver.
