Let's talk about Prince Fielder. Here's the chain of events here.

1. Suspended three games for contact with an umpire.

2. Suspension held in abeyance due to appeal.

3. Appeal withdrawn.

4. Scott Boras calls MLB and says Prince is a good kid.

5. Suspension levied, reduced to two games.

Is this an unusual chain of events? Usually, when suspensions are reduced, they are done so on appeal, and when one drops an appeal, the initial suspension is served. Compare: Derrek Lee

1. Suspended five games for charging the mound.

2. Suspension held in abeyance due to appeal.

3. Appeal withdrawn.

4. Five-game suspension levied, served.

Just weird. I don't know.
