King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2007 Excellent to see Superbad at #1 for the second week in a row. Movie deserves it. Kind of surprised to see Mr. Bean's Holiday at #4. I remember seeing trailers for it about three or four months ago and then completely forgot about it until two days ago when I saw what movies were opening. I thought it would be in the lower half of The Top 10. Good for Rowan Atkinson I guess... I thought The Nanny Diaries would do a bit better too for some reason. I guess the chick flick audience doesn't flock out to the theaters this time of year.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2007 Superbad became the first movie to repeat at #1 since Pirates. The Yari Film Group is completely inept at distributing movies. And a big Sunday kept September Dawn from joining the sub-$1,000 club
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2007 Mr. Bean's holiday is already a hit internationally, so whatever it does in America is just gravy. I haven't seen it yet but I'm looking forward to it since Rowan claims this is it for Bean as a character. I'd kill if he could have pulled off a Blackadder theater released film. The cast of characters would have been amazing but it maybe way too late for that fun. WAR was ok, but wasn't what was advertised. It kinda dragged and the Staham fight scenes were filmed so close that you couldn't see what the hell was happening. That's what I get for looking forward to a movie. muzz 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2007 Would be a good time to capitalize on Laurie's new found fame in the US.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2007 We have two new movies to add to the sub $1,000 club: The first is September Dawn. Slowhand Cinema overestimated its Sunday gross, and it finished with a weekend gross of $635,000 for a PSA of $740. The movie, about a massacre perpetuated by Mormons, was given 0 stars by Roger Ebert and starred paycheque whore Jon Voight. Second is Eye of the Dolphin, staring Carly Schroeder who was Melina on Lizzie McGuire. She's a rebellious girl who finds out her father, who she thought was dead, works with dolphins in the Bahamas. It had a pathetic PSA of $305. Ouch
Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2007 September Dawn is not a great movie but a decent one. Rodger Ebert seems to have a problem because it makes the Mormons look bad, but they were bad in this case. I didn't see a realistic gripe about the movie. he was just pissed because he felt it put Mormons in a bad light.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2007 How is the limited release documentary "King of Kong" doing?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2007 King of Kong expanded to 14 screens, grossed 75,436 for a PSA of $5,388. I don't think that PSA is very good, so I don't think it has a successful road ahead of it
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2007 Man, I'm hoping the local arthouse cinema would add King of Kong. Then again, they did have Hollywood Dreams though and that was on the list of sub $1000 PSA and really what do arthouse cinema owners care about making money ? Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2007 I still can't believe the two nearest theaters to my school aren't showing Superbad. Especially now that everyone is back and classes started. What the hell. This Friday I might be able to bum a ride to a theater playing it about 30 minutes away.
