Bored 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 A lot of intriguing match-ups this week including what on paper is the biggest non-conference game of the year. Interesting to note that ESPN only has a three hour and fifteen minute block for the Notre Dame/Penn State game which means most of the country is probably going to miss the start of the Virginia Tech/LSU game because God forbid you cut away from Notre Dame early. In fact the original plan was to have Gameday from Happy Valley but those plans were scrapped after Saturday's debacle and it will now be from Baton Rouge. Network/Basic Cable Schedule THURSDAY Middle Tennessee State at #8 Louisville, 7:00/4:00 PM, ESPN2 Oregon State at Cincinnati, 7:30/4:30 PM, ESPN FRIDAY Navy at #15 Rutgers, 7:00/4:00 PM, ESPN SATURDAY #3 West Virginia at Marshall, 11:00/8:00 AM, ESPN2 Miami at #5t Oklahoma, Noon/9:00 AM, ABC #16 Nebraska at Wake Forest, Noon/9:00 AM, ESPN N.C. Secret Agent 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 VT versus LSU is the biggest non conference game of the year? I think we'd all be shell shocked if VT pulled a win out of this one so I don't see how big it could really be. There's a much better game kicking off at 11 am. teke184 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 It's the biggest non-conf. game of the year because they're both Top 10 teams. As of now, there's no other non-conf. game between two top 10 teams on the horizon, especially since ND got ass-raped by Georgia Tech. However, there's a potential Top 5 matchup between LSU and Florida on the horizon in a few weeks if both go undefeated to that point... but that's a conference game and ESPN will ignore it since it's not USC-Cal or Ohio State-Michigan. teke184 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 I'm really worried about the legions of stupid emerging if Virginia Tech has a good year. As opposed to the ones that will pop up if WV and beats Rutgers and/or Louisville to win the Big East? VT's fans are stupid, but the WVU fans are some of the worst this side of Ohio State when it comes to senseless property damage. (All those poor couches getting burned...) Guest Soriano's Torn Quad Report post Posted September 4, 2007 You know what I mean: New Orleans Saints, The College Years, in which winning football games somehow accomplishes some sort of "rebuilding," or anything of consequence. Let's hope it doesn't have to come to that.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 My spotlight FCS games... #12 Eastern Illinois @ Purdue #5 New Hampshire @ #10 James Madison #8 Northern Iowa @ Iowa State #11 Southern Illinois @ Northern Illinois Ricky Santos has a tough task ahead of him in JMU. The other games all feature highly ranked FCS teams taking on FBS teams. I don't expect any upsets but the chances are there in the above 3 games (except maybe the Purdue game). Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 Looks like Claussen is going to get his first collegiate start this weekend for Notre Dame versus Penn State. Talk about a rough debut.

The other games all feature highly ranked FCS teams taking on FBS teams. I don't expect any upsets but the chances are there in the above 3 games (except maybe the Purdue game). I'll be listening to the Delaware game as they take on West Chester. Delaware has such a fun team, like the Texas Tech of FCS. Sadly, their defense is much like the original Texas Tech as well. Hopefully they play a little better on that side of the ball this week but I won't be holding my breath.
Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 I am looking forward to the OU-Miami game. This is a chance to see if OU's offense is anything close to what they did against North Texas.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 They won't drop 79 but they will win by a comfortable margin.
Bored 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2007 Finding a random reason to bump this with that other thread turning ugly. Here's the Sagarin Rankings Top 10 which should be fascinating with one whole week completed. 1. USC 2. California 3. LSU 4. Auburn 5. Ohio State 6. Georgia 7. Wisconsin 8. Texas 9. Georgia Tech 10. Clemson Oh and apparantly there was some controversy at the end of the Arkansas State/Texas game but no one saw the game so didn't get any play in the media. The Arkansas State coach said the Big XII aplogized for blowing a couple of calls including an onside kick in the final minute. Link
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2007 Though it's way too early to be pondering this stuff, for my guys the best case scenario is this: VT upsets LSU, LSU beats FL, VT then would lose a couple in conf. play.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 5, 2007 Not very many intriguing games this week, with the closest one probably being TCU-Texas (Of which I expect the 'Horns to come out unscathed), or possibly a Notre Dame upset against Penn State, which would be a lot more likely if it was being played in South Bend. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2007 I'm most interested in the Oklahoma/Miami game, so it kind of sucks that I'll be at UVA/Duke for the duration. On that note: if Duke wins, I'm going to kill myself. Start rooting accordingly.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2007 Penn State/Notre Dame is a HUGE deal around here, so much so that the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees are playing their playoff game in the afternoon to avoid a time conflict.

Guest Report post Posted September 7, 2007 I love Louisville's, "we will catch you from behind, forget about pursuit angles defense." Except they aren't catching up to anyone.
Guest Report post Posted September 7, 2007 Their "defense" is fucking stupid. We'll leave a receiver wide open at the line on third down and let him pick up the easiest 50 yards of his life.

Guest Report post Posted September 7, 2007 They still gave up 42 points to Middle Tennessee State, 35 of them coming in the first half. Despite what the numbers would say, their defense hasn't been any good in the 2nd half either. MTSU just hasn't had the ball. And Louisville's defense doesn't know how to stay onside.
