Word has it that the Giants are trying to pry Hideki Matsui away from the Yankees. Not sure how well they really match up in a trade, but I guess New York could just trade him there for a low level prospect with upside and call it a salary dump. I don't suppose they'd want a whole lot in return for him anyways as he's basically the 4th outfielder at the moment.

I knoe his range is bad, but the guy has put up 4 straight years of 850+ OPS. He's a consistent run producer. He's not a 4th outfielder.

I don't think he's a 4th outfielder. That's just how he fits right now with the Yankees since they've already stated that they prefer Damon as their leftfielder. Trading him seems like the best option because his value is higher to other teams than it is to his current one.

Maybe the Twins would take him in a Santana deal if the Yankees threw in some money. He'd probably be a better DH than Jason Kubel.

They already have three corner outfielders who can't play defense. I don't think he's what they are looking for.

Not a bad option for DH though.

Guillen, Gibbons get 15-day suspensions.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Kansas City's Jose Guillen and Baltimore's Jay Gibbons were suspended for the first 15 days of next season by Major League Baseball on Thursday for violating the sport's drug program.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3144472

Where are the suspensions for Gary Matthews Jr., Paul Byrd, Troy Glaus, Scott Schoenweis and Rick Ankiel? This is one reason why I am not looking forward to the Mitchell Report. The punishments are going to be so haphazard and inconsistent. I'd fight this if I was the Player's Union.

When will the discrimination against PED-purchasing corner outfielders end?

Lack of evidence so no suspensions for those five.

Well, I got that from the article, but what exactly do they have on Guillen and Gibbons that makes them open for suspension? It would have been nice if they provided more info or at least outlined what the standards were for suspension. It seems aribitrary on the surface.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? YOU ARE CALLING TRADING MATSUI AS A SALARY DUMP AND THAA HE IS BASICALLY THE 4TH OUTFIELDER? AND YOU CALL ME THE MORON????? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah the Yankees are going to trade a player who brings in millions of foreign market money and had an ops of 850 with 100 runs and 100 rbi's. I could only imagine if every team traded a player like that as a salary dump and viewed him as a 4th outfielder.

At the moment, he's the odd man out with Damon penciled in for left field. Paying $13 million for Matsui to sit on the bench is a tremendous waste of resources and a disservice to a player of his caliber. Ergo, they could trade him for some prospects with upside and shed his salary in the process. That is technically a salary dump, but it's also turning a underutilized piece into something that can contribute later on. It's win-win for everybody.

You are so combative with me just because I'm a Red Sox fan. Get over yourself.

Matsui is not going to sit on the bench. If anything, Giambi is going to see little to no playing time this year because of the crowded OF.

Giambi, however, is completely unmovable because of his albatross contract. Since he can still hit, why not DH him full time and trade one of the excess outfielders? That's maximizing value and payroll.

I think the Yankees would rather move Damon than Matsui. Although that's probably not going to happen.

If they eat some money, a team might take him on.

If it were me, I'd trade Melky since he's perceived to have some value on the market and Damon can still handle center when he's healthy. But then again, I'm not a Melky guy.

Jayson Stark reporting that the two best offers received for Erik Bedard came from the Red Sox and Blue Jays. However, Angelos has demanded that the team does not him to trade him within the division.

Don't know how this will play out. It seems that if you are committed to moving a player, you should try to get back the best possible package of players regardless of where they come from. Is it really in the best interest of the team to take an inferior trade just so you don't have to face the player in the future?

I'm going to be honest with you, I never read the article.

I'm guessing the Orioles didn't like that package the Mets offered them, as I never heard any follow up on that.

From what I've read, the Mets and Dodgers deals were either completely fabricated or totally rebuffed by the Orioles. I don't know what to believe.

We shouldn't even be discussing rumors. Loose lips make it hard for GMs to complete deals.

Peter Angelos is an idiot. As long as he continues to involve himself in baseball decisions, this team will never be successful.

If they offered Rios for Lincecum or Cain, they probably did the same for Bedard, although I don't know if Rios would play right in Baltimore (Markakis).

Hey Al, is Brian Wilson from SF the real deal?
