AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Funny rant/review on Orange Box: http://kotaku.com/gaming/clip/half+life-2-...-nil-312210.php After finishing Half-Life, I'd say it isn't really required to play to get Half-Life 2. That is, after finishing HL I'm still confused about what is going on in HL2, so to wikipedia I go anyway.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 Anyone know what kind of system requirements TF2 has? The Source games tend to run fine on my PC, so I assume this would?
In Credible 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 Funny rant/review on Orange Box: http://kotaku.com/gaming/clip/half+life-2-...-nil-312210.php After finishing Half-Life, I'd say it isn't really required to play to get Half-Life 2. That is, after finishing HL I'm still confused about what is going on in HL2, so to wikipedia I go anyway. From what I understand in the first HL Gordon helped create the portal that started bringing the aliens into the world at Black Mesa. He fought and thought he'd won when the G-Man recruited him, but the aliens ended up taking over the world and HL2 takes place after the aliens have taken over and are putting humans into camps. Gordon joins up with freedom fighters and begins the fight again, though is thought of as a legend of sorts to many of the people who have heard the stories about him. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 It's not the same aliens. The HL Xen aliens were going from Xen to take up refuge on Earth from the Combine, and of course the Combine invaded between HL and HL2. The Combine aren't mentioned at all in HL, and the Vortigaunt aliens are allies in HL2. The Combine actually conquered and enslaved the Xen aliens.
Thoth 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 Anyone know what kind of system requirements TF2 has? The Source games tend to run fine on my PC, so I assume this would? Yeah, the requirements haven't changed. Just more bells and whistles for high-end machines.
DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 Just picked up the Orange Box today from work, and I must say Portal is one trippy game. I got a little motion sick when I first started playing, but it started to become really fun once I got past that. I'll probably mess around in TF 2 for a little while, because I want to try this wacky Xbox Live thing out.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2007 OK, bought the Orange Box yesterday, and have only played TF2 so far. At first, it was crashing on me a lot, and I was getting an error message about the paged pool memory being low...I had to go into regedit and fix it. Game is now running without any crashes, though I occasionally get a bit of lag freeze. Anyway, the game is really fun. I guess my one criticism so far is that the game is almost too frantic at times. It seems tough to catch your breath, or if you're an engineer, get time to set up your sentry gun before you're being attacked. Other than that, I really like it so far. Pyro is probably my favorite class, since it's nice that the flamethrower actually does some damage now.
In Credible 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Just played TF2 for the first time on 360 and I like it a lot, but they really need to fix the lag issues.
Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I heard they just released a patch for that, but seeing as my 360's in a box headed to the UPS store tomorrow I can't confirm it myself. There's definitely one for the PC version that's being ported over, so if it's not out yet it won't be long.

There's a giant thread about this on the steam forums, in the TF2 board, if you ever run into any more trouble. Just go to the "game locks up" thread. AntiLeaf33 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 Bought it Friday and have logged in a few fun hours of TF2. Played a little bit of Portal, which is a trip. Will probably start to play a bit of Half Life 2 when I'm looking for a break from the TF2 insanity.
Thoth 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2007 For those who care, Valve has said they're going to add achievements for Half Life 2 and HL2 Episode 1, and for CS: Source and DoD: Source. Interestingly, they go on to say they will be adding new achievements for TF2, starting with a "Medic Achievement Pack". I hope that in the future, if they decide to go with a point system ala Xbox Live, that Valve themselves set the point values for achievements. If they don't, we could get another situation like Avatar.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2008 I had been planning to pick this up for a while, but I put it off due to owning Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. But today (well, Saturday afternoon) I bought the game for the 360 after seeing that Target had it on sale for $39.99. I just finished Portal a while ago and loved it. I can't wait to do the challenges. I may start on Team Fortress 2 online tonight, and hen I'll start Half-Life 2 tomorrow. I've never played a HL game. Thoth 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 This doesn't seem popular on the 360 anymore, from what I can gather... Still uber popular on the PC. It's easier to patch the PC version, anyway. Has the 360 version or PS3 version even got the new Badlands map?
Mike wanna be 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 I doubt it. I sort of wish I'd gotten it on Steam rather than 360, but I can't fault TF2's woes as much when I had a blast playing three Half-Lifes for the first time as well as Portal.
