Even when it's lame, it's funny, though, like all the Franklin stuff. He's just sitting in his study, reading the NYC Yellow Pages. That's good stuff. I'll defend The Critic to the ends of the earth.

I like The Critic, but some of the gags are dated, which is something you can't accuse of, say, the at-the-time contemporary episodes of The Simpsons.

I know. You're right. The Critic was very much a product of its time. The only thing that hasn't held up from pre-'95 Simpsons is the animation quality, which looks crude compared to what we have now. The syndicators are doing their part to make sure we forget, though. 17some years and all I see is "Homer becomes a food critic."

Having the advantage of digital animation is much easier on the people that actually draw the show, but I kind of prefer the slightly cruder look of season 3-4 "Simpsons." Basically anything before that is unpleasant to look at, given how the characters eventually came to look. This could be based on the quality of the shows, I guess.

I enjoyed both seasons, but the ABC run of the critic was far superior to the Fox episodes, both in terms of writing and animation. Margo looks completely different in the later shows.

 

Also, whoever's in charge of choosing which Simpsons episodes air in syndication should be thrown into the street and shot.

For some reason, I always confuse Duckman with the 17th unsuccessful attempt at a Jim. J Bullock comeback vehicle, Queer Duck. Mostly because they're both "adult" cartoons starring talking ducks but there's really nothing else in common between the two.

The Oblongs was a lousy show. Mission Hill, too. I've made my feelings on Family Guy known. Outside of those, I haven't watched many of the adult cartoons that surfaced within the last two decades.

 

In my youth, I did watch such short-lived fare as Capitol Critters and Fish Police. I don't remember much about either.

King of the Hill is almost unwatchable now. The first two seasons stand up in syndication, though. I remember Family Dog being absurdly hyped and then just disappearing.

The Oblongs, that was the piece of shit I was trying to remember! That's got to be the nadir of Will Ferrell's career alongside the Bewitched movie and that soccer movie he did. Another show that should be brought up is Game Over, the CGI UPN show about video game characters. Fun fact; it came in last in the ratings of shows that aired on network television that season. Drawn Together is also pretty shitty from what I've seen.

 

Oh and Father of The Pride that kind of sucked.

THE worst adult's animation show ever was easily this godawful New Yogi Bear show that Adult Swim aired a couple of times. It was so terrible that they even roasted it in their own commercial bumpers, "why haven't we cancelled this show already" and such.

The Critic was an amazing show, and it's an absolute shame it only lasted 23 episodes. Especially when it was doing well on FOX and basically got cancelled because the new guy in charge didn't like it.

 

I watched that block of Comedy Central cartoons for years, despite them constantly fucking with the schedule and me never knowing just what I was going to get. The best was in 2003 when they'd have Clerks, The Critic, Duckman, and Dilbert. Before all of those but Duckman got DVD releases that comedy block was a godsend. Speaking of which, Duckman needs a god damned DVD release.

I knew I couldn't be the only one that liked that show. Another CC show I miss is Insomniac with Dave Attell.
