Enigma 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 He's equal parts white and Samoan, iirc. You recall wrong. Rock is 50% Samoan, 50% African-American. His mother was a Samoan. His father, former WWF Tag Team Champion Rocky Johnson, was African American. Here's a picture of Rock's Dad with his partner, Tony Atlas.

Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 This whole "Rock isn't REALLY black" has been going on since The Rock won the world title, and it will keep on going as long as their ignorant people like Jingus.
Ginger Snaps 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 B) African-American wrestlers have been a hit and miss in the WWE. Ahmed Johnson could've been the 1st African-American world champion, Vince pushed and protected him. But Ahmed fucked it up himself, everyone knows that. I believe it's not that Vince McMahon didn't want to have an African-American champion, there just wasn't the right person until The Rock came along. Jingus 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 It seems to be like you don't like the fact that The Rock is black, brother. It seems like you're making shit up to call me a racist, brother. Still waiting on a logical response about exactly how someone with less than 50% black genetics is still considered "black".
Twisted Intestine 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 You guys are the one's who are making my head hurt. What Jingus is saying is that if someone is 50% or less black, why are they considered black? Makes perfectly logical sense to me. I don't mean they shouldn't be considered black at all, but if they're 50/50, they should be considered just as much white. So if you say they're black, I can say they're white, and we'd both be right. Edit: At least that's what I got out of what he's saying..

Jingus 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 KOABy, I'm not saying it's important to draft people to one race or another. My point is entirely the opposite. It's not "Why ISN'T Rock an official member of Race #1", it's Why IS Rock officially designated black"? Also, if I'm correct above about what Jingus means, then it is the people with comments like "I guess if he was a rapper" and "Maybe if he had big lips", who are being ignorant. Jingus never said anything like that. Thank you. Lotta projecting going on in here. What Jingus is saying is that if someone is 50% or less black, why are they considered black? Exactly what I'm saying, and still waiting on an answer.

Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Let's go to the original post that started all this... Regardless of whether or not MVP has the talent, you guys are all forgetting something. He's not a big hoss, and he's black. That right there means Vince will almost certainly never push him as a top guy. So Jingus, if MVP is black, how is The Rock not? MVP shares the same skin complexion as The Rock, and nor does he look like he's 100% black. He is the same skin complexion as Sinbad, Bryant Gumble, and the many various of other mullatos, I've pointed out through this debate. So if MVP can be considered black, how come not other light skin black people can be?
Jingus 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Whether I would consider him black is immaterial in that context, because Vince almost certainly would.
The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Why, if he's the same color as The Rock? Is it because of the hairstyle? I don't understand it, Jingus... if their both the same color, what's the difference between one and the other? Prison time, tattoos, presentation?
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Whether I would consider him black is immaterial in that context, because Vince almost certainly would. And he doesn't consider The Rock black? Considering he knows who is father is and has worked with him for many years, or when he allowed The Rock to join an African-American stable where they fought against the racism of African-American wrestlers, right? "When he was a child, Dwayne asked me what he was, and I told him," says Rocky Johnson. "And I taught him to appreciate and represent the Black race because that's what I did." Rocky Johnson. Notice how it doesn't specify exactly what Rocky "told him". You've been saying he's not even 50% black. Plus, I did say he's half Samoan and Half Black. So I consider him "black", I never said he wasn't mixed with anything else. I'm saying the guy was raised as a African American, just like Alicia Keys. I'm sure he was aware of his Samoan family, hell he's realted to half the Samoan wrestlers. It's pretty plain too see what Rocky was saying there.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2007 Because I don't know a thing about MVP's parents or grandparents or general heritage, so I'm not informed to make any sort of judgement on that one. I don't think he looks the same as Rock though, his skin seems to be a little bit darker, plus the cornrows make it easier to subconciously identify him as being black. He does have the sort of look which the majority of the population call "black". The same society that calls Sinbad "black". I just don't understand why people assist on appyling that label to people it doesn't fully fit.
