College Basketball Thread - November '07

I pretty much cheer for all the ACC teams not named Duke and Maryland in the ACC-Big Ten challenge, not like they usually need it. Outside of that though, get the hell out of Sean Singletary's way and buy me some cookies.

The hatred between UNC and State is pretty much exclusively on the State side. They hate Carolina because, well, they're Carolina and they're the kings. Most UNC fans that I've encountered, myself included, have always kind of dismissed State as the "annoying kid brother" of the ACC. He might be able to beat you in a game every once in a while, and you smile at his pluckiness, but in the end he's just your little brother and you know he has no threat of taking the throne. I mean I can't say that I shed any tears when they lose, but for the most part I tolerate them just because I have so many connections to the university. Wake Forest I could care less about either way. Duke on the other hand...

I couldn't imagine cheering on any other Pac 10 teams, outside of Oregon football, and that's only because someone I played football with played for them. Otherwise, I would hate all the Pac 10 teams with a passion.

I have no problems with Wake Forest.

 

Duke doesn't need to be explained.

 

I don't like State because I knew a bunch of people who went there and they were always very obnoxious... I heard all the praises of Julius Hodge until I wanted to cry. It's not really a rivlary but if you live in Chapel Hill and drink in Raleigh sometimes you end up hearing things that just end up annoying you and making you not like the team.

With just seconds left in regulation and K-State lined up to inbound the ball and run a last second play, Bill Walker was overcome with an urge too strong to control. he stepped to the sideline and relieved himself with several towels.

Too bad it would have been much funnier if pissed himself while in the game.

Okay check this out. The U of L vs. UK rivalry is even weirder than these various ACC rivalries. NC St. fans disliking UNC and being jealous of their success makes sense to me. But the truly bizarre part about U of L/UK is that I'd say most of the hatred is on the Kentucky side. How weird is it that the #1 winningest program in basketball is constantly obsessed and paranoid about "little brother" Louisville? UK fans talk down or trash U of L, and while I think there's a fringe part of the U of L fanbase that feels this way for the most part I think U of L fans are much more tolerant. Quite a few are even fans of UK on some level when they aren't playing U of L.
