Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 I started a thread on how awful Norbit would be...I did not see it, but I can imagine I wasn't wrong. Could have possibly had something to do with Eddie Murphy not winning the best supporting actor Oscar, due to the timing of the release right after Dreamgirls. Eddie was notches above Alan Arkin, IMO.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 I've seen 16 movies on that list. Usually I see more blockbuster shite in theaters but this year I only saw three in the top 10 (The Simpsons Movie and Transformers which were both part of a drive in double feature and I saw Shrek 3). I don't know if it's a sign of my taste getting better or me just getting old and out of touch with what's popular. You decide TSM!

The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 I started a thread on how awful Norbit would be...I did not see it, but I can imagine I wasn't wrong. Could have possibly had something to do with Eddie Murphy not winning the best supporting actor Oscar, due to the timing of the release right after Dreamgirls. Eddie was notches above Alan Arkin, IMO. Everyone in that category was better than Arkin, and he was the only damn worthwhile thing about Sunshine. Oops, almost forgot Mark Whalberg got a nomination for The Departed. Djimon, Murphy, and Jackie Earle should have gotten the award instead of him. Norbit hit all the notches for bad black comedy... and had the greatness of Cuba Gooding Jr. in it.

The Buzz 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 I'm not one to bash movies, but Shrek 3 was probably my least favorite movie this year. I like a lot of critically acclaimed stuff, but love just as much pop culture style stuff. But Shrek 3 put me to sleep three times at the theater, and twice when my girlfriend rented it. That hasn't happened to me since the Matrix.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 Could sleeper of the year be considered Wild Hogs? I didnt hardly expect anything out of that one, and even made a point to avoid even seeing it on DVD when it came out, just didnt sound interesting at all. I caught some of it just recently finally and actually liked it surprisingly. So it must have had a hell of a good word of mouth or something? But for that to be number 11 for the year was something. Probably my favorite film out of the major hits of the year was Bourne Ultimatum. Least favorite? I wasn't too thrilled with Pirates for some reason, and loved the other two of the franchise.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 Sleeper of the year is definitely Alvin and The Chipmunks IMO. It cost $55 million and will probably make $200 million. It's based on an old TV show but that's not a guarantee of big box office success and it didn't have any huge box office draws in it while Wild Hogs had three (Travolta, Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence). I caught some of it just recently finally and actually liked it surprisingly. So it must have had a hell of a good word of mouth or something? But for that to be number 11 for the year was something. Wild Hogs was one that I swore I would not see, but ended up catching it on when some friends were watching it on DVD and I was surprised. John C. McGinley was gold in it. I know it did pretty good word of mouth and a lot of people were interested in the combination of the actors helped its box office. One other thing that I had heard at the time, which wouldn't have bumped it huge, but give it a little bump, was that kids were buying tickets to that and then sneaking into 300, as they were in the box office around the same time. KingPK 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) Bourne deserved every cent it made. I got the DVD a few days ago and the Waterloo Station and rooftop chase scenes are just great. But it's a solid *** movie and certainly better than any Simpsons episode made this decade. Sad to say I probably liked it the most of all of the movies in the Top 10 Oh hell no. That shit was garbage. Granted I only saw like the first 40 minutes on DVD before turning it off, but just like the Simpsons these past few years, it's like the old Family Guy episodes except not funny. The Simpsons were a smart subtle show back then and we've been reduced to Homer gets hurt, Homer cries, and Homer does some stupid shit that isn't funny. That was pretty much the movie too. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 Whatever. Not gonna argue. Comedy and eroticism are the two most subjective things in the history of the universe.
