Gilbert fucking Brown. That just sounds like a fat dude name. One of my favorite Packers of all-time. Comparatively speaking, he wasn't as huge as some other guys at 6'3", 340lbs., but he certainly could pack some beef away in his day. Teddy Washington is a big guy too, at 6'5", 365lbs.. but does he have a burger named after him?

The Gilbertburger, available at the Burger King on Oneida Street, near Lambeau Field, comes with twice the trimmings of a normal Double Whopper but no pickles. Like Brown, it is gigantic. Like Brown, it occludes.

I think its nonsense that we (media, congressmen, and fans) are spending this much time and effort in trying to corner ball players into admitting that they are cheating. Its just a game and the "sanctity of baseball" is really just bullshit and myth to me. I do agree with Czech's sentiments that steroids need to stay out of amateur and youth sports.

I ultimately agree with you, but I'm gonna take a different route getting there.

 

I do see the 'sanctity of sport' argument, and while I'm not overly happy about it, I do think it's been blown a fair amount out of proportion, especially by politicians. At the risk of sounding like a tool, I don't want to know the person who doesn't agree with Czech's sentiments.

 

I think water polo might be my favourite summer event. Incidentally, the only Olympic moment on my all-time sport moment Top 10 is Daniel Kigali in Sydney.

 

Part of me thinks this was asked already, or at least something similar, but I didn't see it during my navigating back: Let's say every sport with a HoF adopts the same criteria for membership. What should it be? I say close to MLB's: Every player ever, maximum of five times on the ballot, 75% of voters agree.

The 75% criteria is ideal, if you look at the Hall of Famers the writers inducted through the process it's a quality group of Hall of Famers. Only think you might need to tweak is the process, for example if you have a surplus of candidates you want to hold a runoff.

No surplus. If the ballot that year allows for 362 players inducted, that's how many get inducted. (Hey, as long as we're being hypothetical.)

 

Tecmo Bowl. That question needs a "for its time". Tecmo Bowl now is incomparible to say, NFL 2K5. Tecmo Bowl 20 years ago to 2k5? Now you've got a debate. With my addendum in mind, let it ride.

I meant a surplus in regards to crowding the ballot. If you have 30-35 equally talented players and the writers can pick ten, no candidate is going to get a consensus. It is easier to elect candidates when there are one or two sure things, 10-15 maybes and some filler. In the earlier example, you would have a runoff to reduce the ballot if no one reaches the 75% on the first try, and then run the election with a condensed ballot.

Is Bulls/Rockets really a dream matchup circa 1997? The Rockets were pretty decent but were just 57-25 compared to the Bulls 69-13.

 

Here's a couple that I've thought about for my local teams:

 

--U of L vs. UK, 1975 NCAA title game. Unfortunately, U of L lost by 1 in OT to UCLA. That's one game where I can safely say the wrong team won.

 

--Same matchup, U of L vs. UK but this time 1986 FF. LSU got 4 tries at UK that year and finally beat them by 2 points in the regional final. I don't guess that is the actual final game though, it's a semi.

I second this. Also, it's a bit of a stretch for 'dream final', as the Pens were out in the second round that year.

Lemieux vs Gretzky is the primary reason I found it to be appealing. The Pens would've destroyed LA but, then again, they would've destroyed the Habs too. They just choked against the Isles.

 

I think the Rockets with Hakeem, Barkley and Drexler at the tail end of their primes would've been a fascinating match-up for the Bulls. Especially with Barkley and Drexler trying to get rings and avenge previous losses while the Bulls would be trying to beat the only other team in the 1990's to win consecutive titles and the guy called the best in the NBA during Jordan's absense.

I imagine Jeter will get in the HOF and I haven't heard his name tossed around in any of these steroid scandals. How about Rickey Henderson? His career peaked in the non-steroid era but he played well into the steroid era and I can't recall anybody accusing him of juicing. Then again, he did play with the Bash Brothers for a couple years...

Yeah, I could see him falling in with that second group I listed. The guys who have no real links to the steroid controversy but will get pulled in because they were big power hitters in the 90s.

Why? As a White Sox fan, I would really not be that surprised about Thomas, with how built he is. Though I would hope that's not the case. I would be a sad panda if he got tied into the whole deal.

I'd be shocked. Thomas is the one guy who's always been an anti-steroid advocate and has always been the first guy to talk to any investigators. He was the one guy to co-operate with Senator Mitchell. So yah, he would shock me.
