The TSM 2008 NFL Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

Via PM, The Chiefs select

Sam Baker OT-USC.

After totally missing the boat on Clady, KC tries to shore up the line with a name tackle to commit to a stellar running tandem in McFadden and Johnson.

I would like to suggest some sort of draft analysis for each team after we have finished all drafting rounds. Not sure who should do it, but I think it would be a decent idea. Grades and shit, ya know?

Now that the Jets have Kris Jenkins, Sedrick Ellis was a pretty retarded pick. What Kris Jenkins doesn't do though, is play OT, and Anthony Clement does, and he sucks dick, so the Jets take Carl Nicks, who Bill Callahan coached at Nebraska.

The Atlanta Falcons select...Brian Brohm, QB, from Louisville.

I was tempted to take a DT with this pick, but couldn't pass up Brohm at this point. Another area of need is RB, but I've been reading that the Falcons have contacted Michael Turner which would be a solid addition to the roster.

EDIT: ESPN is reporting the Falcons signed Michael Turner.

Brohm going 1 pick before mine screwed me up but it was a 50/50 tossup anyway on either Brohm or an OT so..

with the 38th pick the Baltimore Ravens select

Anthony Collins, OT Kansas

Even if Ogden doesn't retire, they have to plan that he will soon and Jared Gaither isn't going to get the job done.

San Francisco 49ers select...

doucet.jpg

Early Doucet, WR, LSU

The 49ers will obviously take out a receiver with one of their first two picks and this is a pick that has a very good chance of happening in the real draft at this spot. Should be a good fit in a Mike Martz offense.

Neighborhood of ten OL taken thus far? Yikes.

Bored, that's actually an excellent and realistic pick. Doucet's a good route-runner, and can get separation in the second level. Great slot option.

Speaking of Mike Martz offense; they signed Isaac Bruce this week.

The Saints could use another pass rusher so luckily this guy is still available:

Auburn_QuentinGroves2.jpg

Quentin Groves. He'll play some OLB for them, and help their defensive line a bit which really didn't get to the QB much. They just signed Randall Gay, and earlier they drafted Aqib Talib so their corners are looking better, especially with some front 7 help.

With the 41st pick in the draft, the Buffalo Bills select TE Fred Davis from USC.

wazzu_2007_fred_davis.jpg

6’5”

Weight: 250 lbs

The positives on Davis are as follows

* Tough match-up in coverage – a weapon in the pass attack

* Scary run-after-catch ability

* Great hands – converted WR

His negatives are that he is not a great blocker, and that I have heard that he measured at slightly less then 6'5 and 250. If that is the case we may need to use him like Cooley in Washington.

With the 42nd pick, the Denver Broncos select:

455005.jpg

Pat Sims, DT, Auburn

This is the first step to addressing Denver's desperate need for some semblance of a run defence. While not an elite talent like Dorsey or Ellis, Sims is strong and a good tackler, and with time and some good coaching, should help shore up a woeful defensive line that finished 30th against the run in 2007.

The Saints just signed a pash rusher today, a DE named Bobby McCray, to a 5 year deal worth $20 million.

With the 43rd pick, Carolina selects:

56164163.jpg

Red Bryant, DT, Texas A&M

With the trade of Kris Jenkins there's a hole at defensive tackle, and nothing fills holes better than a 6'4", 318lb DT.

The fake Chicago Bears are tickled to select:

Chris Johnson-RB, East Carolina

757-reg-1874180-1206041.embedded.prod_affiliate.3.jpg

This fucker is fast. This fucker can catch.

He put up a 4.24 at the combine, and spent much of his time at ECU as a kick returner, and checkdown option out of the backfield. With the loss of Berrian and Muhammad, the Bears are really going to have to improvise this year in the passing game. Hardy and Doucet being off the board is a bummer, but expected. Olsen's developing well at TE, and Hester will certainly make some impact in the offense, but they need speed, and this guy is arguably the fastest player in the draft.

Another plus: He was a kick return specialist in college. Hester on one side and Johnson on the other will make already the most feared return game in the NFL completely untouchable.

With the 45th pick, the Detroit Lions select

mj6mjw0v.jpg

Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona

Cason's a guy who can play in the Tampa-2 system that Rod Marinelli and Joe Barry run. He's a good tackler, which is a major plus considering many of the Lions' corners last year were average to bad tacklers. Detroit already got Leigh Bodden from Cleveland in the Shaun Rogers trade and are looking into signing Brian Kelly from Tampa. Even if the Lions bring in Kelly, they still need depth at corner. The ideal situation would be for Cason to be the 3rd CB with Bodden and Kelly starting. That way, Cason can be used more as a punt returner until he's ready to replace the 32-year-old Kelly as a starter.

With the 46th pick in the TSM-NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select:

post-2806-1204609293_thumb.jpg

Erin Henderson/LB/Maryland

The Bengals went with BPA in the first round with Ryan Clady, so now they have to address the defensive side of the ball. Roger Goddell hates Odell Thurman and pretty much every LB missed at least 2 games last year with injuries, so I think Henderson will be a good pick. I would have liked to grab a DT here, but I do not think there was a good value pick at this point.

With the 47th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select

Branden Albert, OG/OT, Virginia.

AHMBRVIMRIVQKMY.20070816040731.jpg

Albert is a junior who is the top-rated guard in the draft, and he's the only one who's projected to go in round 1.[1] He is a big and athletic guy[2] who projects as either a guard or a tackle.[2],[3] Therefore, we would like him to compete with and hopefully beat out the below-average Ryan Cook for our RT position. Also, if something disasterous were to happen to McKinnie or Hutchinson on the left side, we could put Albert over there. You can never have enough good o-linemen.

With the 48th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select...Trevor Laws, Defensive Tackle, Notre Dame.

I considered taking a DT with an earlier pick, but I felt this was the spot to finally commit to one. Laws can also play DE which will make him a valuable piece of the Falcons defensive line.

With the 49th pick, the Philadelphia Eagles select.....Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas

I don't care if he never sees a down behind the QB. He is being brought in to be the return man. Anything else is gravy. Enough of this Reno Mahe abortion of special teams. No one else is considered for this pick and anyone between myself and the official table where the card get dropped off would be run over. After he dropped to 40th, I would have offered this pick and a 4th rounder to everyone to move up and get him.

With the 52nd pick in the draft, the Buccaneers select Brandon Flowers, CB, Virginia Tech

"Pro Football Weekly" has him ranked 2nd in CBs coming out of the draft..."Instincts, ball skills, and tackling ability are tailor-made for a cover-2 defense, where he could be an elite performer..."

With the 53rd pick in the draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select WR Andre Caldwell from Florida.

I would have loved it had Albert slipped. I thought of picking him in the first round.

The Seahawks are sad about the various trench guys that have gone already. They were hoping that one would drop. That being said, we will reach a bit for:

martellusvsbaylor.jpg

Martellus Bennett, TE, Texas A&M

From nfldraftcountdown.com:

Height: 6-7 | Weight: 253 | 40-Time: 4.80

Strengths:

Excellent size with long arms and a huge frame...Outstanding athleticism...Has big reliable hands and can pluck the ball away from his body...Real tough, strong and physical...Terrific ball skills and body control...Decent route runner..Above average blocker with the potential to get even better..Probably has a considerable upside.

Weaknesses:

Lacks elite timed speed...Not real quick or explosive...Not a vertical threat who will stretch the field...Could stand to bulk up...Needs to get stronger...Is still raw from a technique standpoint...Not very elusive and won't do much after the catch...May still be a tad bit immature...Does he truly love the game and is he dedicated to it?

Notes:

Is also an outstanding basketball player who saw action on the hardwood for the Aggies...Actually entered the NBA Draft out of high school before withdrawing his name...Gave up basketball in January 2007 to focus on football..Was underutilized in the Aggies run-orientated offense..Talented player with a unique set of physical tools who could be a very good all-around tight end at the next level...The type of prospect who could turn out to be even better in the pros than he was in college.

For the Seahawks, he provides a huge target in the red zone and could be the long term solution at TE that Jerramy Stevens was supposed to be. His timed speed is unfortunate, but after losing the Alge Crumpler sweepstakes the Seahawks need someone and Bennett has the ability to become an all-purpose TE. They still might be in the market for a veteran to contribute if Bennett can't grasp the offense right away.

I was also looking for DT or a tackle/guard, but there's been a big run on linemen and no run really jumps out.

Kahran: If you'd pick Rachal, I would have gone for his teammate Sam Baker. Thankfully this is a fake draft, cause if it was a real one, I would be a pissed of Seahawk fan not taking Sam Baker to help in the trenches.

Ortonsault: What a steal taking Albert in the second round. He should have gone in the first round.
