Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 Who isn't a Stooges fan? I think it's pretty unbelievable how well they still hold up today; not great, but out of that era, they're head and shoulders above the rest. Hell, the Stooges even form the basis of my favorite Seinfeld joke, from when Kramer is in LA.. (spoilers for length) Helene:Hello Kramer. Kramer: Oh Helene how are you?. Helene: I Haven't worked since 1934 how do you think I am?. Kramer: Well that's only 58 years. Helene:It was a Three Stooges short, "Sappy Pappies", I played Mr. Sugerman's secretary remember?. Kramer: Right, right, that was Shemp right?. Helene: No, no Curly, the boys play 3 siblings, who find a baby, the Baby's been kidnapped, and the police think they did it. Kramer: Uh right. Helene: But, but of course they Didn't do it, the Police have made an awful mistake. Kramer: Right. Helene: Moe hits Curly with an Axe, the Stooges catch the Kidnappers. Kramer: Right. Helene: But it's too late. Kramer: Really?. Helene: The Baby's dead. Kramer: Really?. Helene: The boys are sent to Death Row and are executed. Kramer: Well I don't remember that part. Helene: I played Mr. Sugerman's secretary. Kramer: Oh yeah you were very good!. Helene: It was so sad, for a Three Stooges, what with the dead baby, and the stooges being executed and all. Kramer: Yeah well that was an unusual choice for The Stooges.

yankovic fan 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 My Pal Moe by Bob Bernet featuring letters and rare photos of Moe Howard at home. http://web2.iadfw.net/willdogs/ Great website. The guy got to meet Moe back when he was alive after being pen pals with him. I have actually corresponded with the webmaster, really down to earth guy. He's out of dallas and in film production. We've exchanged quite a few emails expressing our Stooge Obsession. One weekend I'm stealing my niece from my sister and subjecting her to a three stooges marathon. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I really can't convey how much of a Stooges fan I am. I love them. They're one of three things I have loved for my entire life (the other two are Spider-man and Godzilla). I can tell you all kind of trivia about their personal lives, I can quote entire shorts, I'm hardcore. Fun facts: My favorite stooge is Larry. I've met one other person in my life who's agreed. I enjoy the Shemp and Curly eras equally. My favorite short is Uncivil Warriors. I've considered a Three Stooges tattoo (still might get it). It would actually be a leg sleeve consisting of the Stooges, Spider-man and Godzilla.

Guest Teal-y Dan Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I'm a big Three Stooges fan too. When I was little, channel 50 would air like two hours of Stooges shorts on Sunday nights. Truly one of the pros to having lots of independent UHF stations with time to fill. I can't tell you my favorite, but I generally prefer the Curly era to the Shemp era, because that's the real thing. Anecdote: when I was in jazz ensemble, we were sitting in the band office, where there was a Three Stooges poster and some other sundry Stooges paraphernalia, and this one guy who was a junior when I was a freshman, with a reputation for flagrant cultural illiteracy, asks about our director "who are these three strange men, and why is he so obsessed with them? I mean, they're all over here, and I don't know who they are!" Clearly, he didn't take advantage of UHF time-fillers like I did. No, Joe added nothing to the table, except for the "hello, HELLO, HELLOOOOO, Hello!" introduction, and even that wasn't that good. I think it was used as a gag in more Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes than it was in Three Stooges shorts (I think there were about 22 with Joe; I used to have a book about the topic which I bought at a long-gone nostalgia store in the city.) yankovic fan 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Yeah I never was a Joe fan. I read that his heart really wasn't into it anyway. I liked Curley Joe Derita better but with him I almost felt like they were going for a Curley replacement. Still, he had some good moments on his own. Its a shame the original four (Moe, Shemp, Curley, Larry) all died before I was even born. But as I've grown, so has my collection of Stooge items. I was lucky enough to come across some DVDs that have interviews with Larry and Moe in the later stages of their lives and while it was depressing to see them in an advanced age and state, at the very least I felt like they'd aged as I've grown. It's a weird thing to explain. My biggest pet peeve is that pretty much anybody with a dvd burner can sell the four public domain episodes. Anytime you go to buy a Stooge DVD set, there's always "Disorder in the Court" "The Brideless Groom" "Malice in the Palace" and "Sing a Song of Six Pants." I am going to investigate the virtues of the purchase Nate (original poster) has made.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 The local UHF station/UPN affliate used to air a Three Stooges marathon every New Year's Eve back when I was a lad. Every year, we'd order Chinese food and watch that marathon for hours until the countdown and then we'd flip back after the countdown. I wish they still had that. Fuck a bunch of Dick Clark. I think Moe was my favorite. I'm not sure he was ever the funniest but he was the glue of the group. The same reason Moe is my favorite Stooge is the same reason Dan Aykroyd and Phil Hartman are my all-time favorite SNL castmembers.

King Kamala 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I'm genuinely (and pleasently) surprised that Czech is a fan. Never took him for a fan of old school slapstick. And there's actually a really bad 80s comedy about obsessed Stooge fans that they used to play on HBO all the time. It starred Josh Mostel (Zero's kid, in a bunch of Adam Sandler movies) and Sid Caesar (Is there anything that guy won't do? He was on Pink Lady and Jeff for god's sake!) Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2008 i seriously had no idea there were people who liked the three stooges this much. This actually made me laugh. Funnily enough, Disorder In the Court is one of my favorites, even though it's overexposed. The part where Larry grabs the gun from Moe's nose and starts howling like Tarzan is a good example of why Larry is my favorite. I've heard said that Larry was a quiet sort of guy, but would once in a while come up with something so batshit insane that it was somehow brilliant. He would blow all his money at the track, too. Curly liked booze and women. Moe would actually take part of their pay and save and invest it for them so they've be provided for later in life. So yeah, he was the glue of the group, off screen as well as on.
