USC Wuz Robbed! Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Ok I apologize for causing this thread to completely derail apparently. I might have overreacted when I said the ending sucked. It was definitely a tragic ending. My wife is in fact sensitive about those things, and I'm a bit more desensitized but I guess I hold much more optimism about what I'd have done in that situation. I might have done the same thing, I might not have. It was a situation where the ending made me wonder to myself about what I'd have done in David Drayton's shoes. Also I think I would not have AS big of an issue with it if the kid was sleeping through the whole thing, as opposed to having woken up beforehand. Just thinking about seeing your child look at you while you, well do what David did, and see if you don't feel affected about it.
Ravenbomb Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Could someone spoil the ending of the book for me? I'm not going to read it but I'm curious as to what the different ending is.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 From Wikipedia- Ollie shoots Carmody dead, scattering the mob, but en route to Drayton's car, he is in turn killed by a large lobster-like creature. Drayton, Billy, Amanda, and elderly school teacher Hilda Reppler reach the car and leave Bridgton, driving south for hours through a mist-shrouded New England. After finding a refuge for the night, Drayton listens to a radio, and through the overwhelming static possibly hears a single word: "Hartford". With that one reed of hope, he prepares to drive on into an uncertain future.
Ravenbomb Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Hm. I think I like the movie ending better.
dubq Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Like Lushus says, wait it out until it's ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Hey maybe you should write your own movie then. I can't believe there's even a "debate" about how "tragic" and "hard to sit through" the ending of this standard horror fodder movie. Give me a break. At least we had the wonderful "DO NOT WANT" scene right after that to lighten that heavy burden from some of your troubled minds.
Canadian Brandon Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 I don't blame the father. The kid made him promise that he wouldn't get eaten by the monsters. The dad was just keeping his promise IMO.
