Baby Mama being #1 really wasn't a surprise. Some box office tracking had Harold and Kumar possibly being #1, but given it's built-in audience, it would've had to have a huge Friday night.

 

Harold and Kumar was $4 million away from being the second sequel to outgross its predecessor in its opening weekend.

 

And as always, posting the top 21 isn't that necessary

Harold and Kumar cost 12...and from the trailers it looks like they at least leave a basic room setup over the course of the movie.

 

Baby Mama should have been able to come in for roughly the price of a video camera.

I haven't seen Baby Mama, but I am guessing it cost more for the people who were in it and locations. Harold and Kumar was shot in Louisiana and Baby Mama takes place in New York, so if it was really filmed there, it would cost more. Plus, I think the people in Baby Mama probably get paid a little more than the Harold & Kumar people.

Baby Mama had a pretty diverse cast, which I'm sure cost some $, and even though it takes place in Philly, it was filmed in New York.

 

Then comes all the other expenses associated with a big-screen picture.

I find it weird that Steve Martin has a supporting role in Baby Mama yet he isn't in any of the ads that I've seen. Must have something in his contract.

 

I'm surprised that people are surprised that it's #1. Do people really think stoners are that huge of an audience to push Harold and Kumar to #1. You can't bring your bong in the theater!

 

And no Mole, we really don't need to see The Top 21.

The Steve Martin thing is weird, especially since they didn't really acknowledge it for a while (even though there were pictures of him on set), but right before the movie came out, I saw his name mentioned in articles, and press for the movie. You would think they would've just given up and put him in the ads.

I like Poehler... and I thought this movie looked pretty good, but I heard it wasn't.

 

So I saw H&K this weekend... there were like, a lot of families and kids there. I guess that's the better choice for young children, as it's blatant enough that kids will like it. Maybe that's where the money's from.

Anyone get the feeling that some people bought tickets for Baby Mama and snuck in to Harold and Kumar? Kinda like with 300 and Wild Hogs last year.

 

The new H & K isn't really as good as White Castle though. The first one had some racial and political overtones in it, but this new one practically beats you over the head with it.

And the last 10 mins. or so are almost literally a carbon copy of Wedding Crashers, believe it or not.

Well, let me just chime in to say that I like seeing the top 21 or however many it is in a given week. Just because YOU don't care what "The Visitor's" weekend take was, doesn't mean I don't. (I actually don't care, I just used it as an example). Having a more expanded list might allow you to keep up with a movie that your interested in that didn't make the top 10. For example, a few months ago I was very interested to see how "Funny Games" was doing at the box office. After, I believe, 1 week in the top 10, it fell out and slowly crashed and burned. Having the top 21 posted allowed me to watch its weekly demise. So, if you only want to know what the top 10 was, read that and then move on.
